@ldunn2 this is actually the first time the song was ever performed. no one had even heard the track until he played it this night, so it was also it's debut. up to this point, drunk girls was the only new track anyone had heard. and he was probably drinking
I find it a bit silly that we're having a discussion on James Murphy's vocal prowess...I mean c'mon, he would be the first to say he's not the greatest singer, neither is J. Mascus or Thurston Moore but it works for this sound. Go back at listen to Nirvana live...Some shows,Kurt just screams cause he's tired of singing his own song, or just to turn the idea of how big their hits became on its ear, but I digress...
James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem kick and the lazy vox suit the irony of the song
He's probably been singing for nights and nights on the trot...I like his voice, it's melancholy and fits the song - I hope they're not splitting up I've not had the chance to see them live....
He could have been drunk. Nothing wrong with that. But after hearing the recorded version, this is a tad disappointing. But they still rock and this is a fantastic track.
yeah, i mean his voice isnt perfect, but could you imagine someone like justin timberlake singing for lcd soundsystem? the whole personality of the music is james murphy, and part of that is the voice. its perfect for the music.
@xchez12345 his performance here isnt perfect, but come on, his stuff on the album is amazing and his voice is perfect for the music when he is on pitch. i could find dozens of youtube videos of james murphy singing in key and completely fucking killing it and i can also find hundreds of videos of famous singers singing off pitch. he had one bad performance on one song that he had never even performed live before and people decide hes a bad singer? it just seems silly to me.
@phbrown28 not to mention the fact that he uses analog technology to still record music and master it means he doesn't use auto tune, so even listening to the album you know he can actually sing, i bet he is probably drunk here, or maybe nervous, it is a really mature vocal style, especially for murphy
Is this how they usually sound live? I fcking loved this song but it sounds HORRIBLE live. Ugh.

@phbrown28 lol. There is a difference between style and just singing out of tune. Bob Dylan had an odd style but he sang in tune.

The studio version on the album sounds a lot better. Let's face it, he never was a good singer.
