Thanks beloved. The first song is talking about how OYO (pronounved horyor) came to be, and the king and indigenes of oyo choosed the particular spot they live in. The "oriki" (i.e the words or song belonging to a particular yoruba person, house, town, village or state) of oyo has it that when d oyo people set out on their journey to an unknown destination, the ifa oracle told d people to stop when they get to the slippery ground that fell them in their previous journey....... It is a long story
When is Babatunde going to give us the Oriki Oja? I thank him for the Oriki Onikoyi but you cannot have a father withou a mother. Pls. Tunde, ki mi re ile oja ojare.
Yoruba is a language of the soil so can never die. The use of ofo (incantations) is an example of the power of the language and i for one believe if you pray in yoruba as opposed to any other language your desire will come true.
they say when an elder, "agba "curses you in yoruba that curse will come to pass , you dont want to be cursed by your elders.. they are very powerful spiritually.
yoruba is a beautiful , expressive language , full of rich colour and rhyme, it is much lost in the translations which do not do it justice.. It will never die despite the onslaught of western "civilisation" it will continue to evolve as any living language does and the fact that there are yorubas on here annoyed about their home towns being left out in this oriki says it all.
Many thanks to you Oluwalogbon, you are highly appreciated. May the face of the Most High God shine upon your household for not ignored my msg. Ise opolo ni Babatunde se, but next time he should try to include ondo/ekiti in his next record. Gbogbo wa lomo oduduwa, oodua a gbe wa oo.
yoruba not youra unless you have invented another word of our culture to suit your own needs in america.. different strokes for different folks.. i have read it all on youtube..
yorubas are called yorubas not "youras" is that so difficult to understand .. do you speak yoruba ?if you do you would know this it wouldnt be an issue for a yoruba speaker but thats okay , for those who take an interest in our culture and want to learn more from it , there is a lot to learn .
I reckon the culture will slowly be lost to European influences as is the case in Lagos, Yoruba dialect that is spoken in Lagos is a wild mixture and well diluted from the traditional varieties..I think that is what will happen all over Yoruba land with the pace of modernization that we are seeing...
why do you called the title of this your record oriki ile yoruba, after you've excempted both ondo & ekiti state.are you telling me that we are not omo odua.pls make amendment joo.
babatunde need to meantion ogbomoso and iresa. please i really missed this oriki when my grandmother was live she uses to do this for me espeacialy when am angry
