I will admit that until probably a month ago I was one of those judgemental dairy and meat eaters... and wow has my opinion changed. After reading skinny bitch and watching hundreds of vegan videos on youtube I am 'going vegan', starting today. I haven't told anyone yet cause I'm scared of their opinions and that I will get called a hypocrite... which was true until people like you have inspired me.
@TheNicoleAndrews Congratulations! I'm happy to hear you're going to try out the vegan way of eating. How are you feeling? Do you enjoy it? Its been nearly 2.5 years since I made the switch and I feel GREAT!
I know exactly what you're talking about! A while back, I was at work making a cheeseless pizza and one of my coworkers asked why I never put cheese or meat on my pizza. And when I responded that I was vegan, he went on this whole rant about how vegetables have feelings and feel pain too and that I shouldn't eat them. Hahaha, it was the most pathetic and immature thing I've ever heard.
@Angelicax502 lol yah I crack up when I hear people say to me "humans were meant to eat meat" I just think to myself - okay then eat it raw like real carnivores do! Or I also think to myself, 'if greens are strong enough for the cow you eat then I think its strong enough for me'.
When I went vegan the first thing everyone did was to tell me to be careful because I could make myself sick. .Well actually it's the second thing they did. The first thing was to laugh. :-)
I immediately starting learning about nutrition and found out that I had nothing to worry about and in fact, quite the opposite. But I will tell you, every time I meet someone and they find out I am a vegan, they immediately proceed to grill me and judge me. I don't mind at all though. It's kind of cool.
lol i tried being this week but yesterday i couldent take it anymore (my mom just bought like a whole bunch of meat and stuff) and so basically all we had for vegan food was hummus, peta bread, and pasta...oh and rice lol so
I've been vegetarian all my life. I have noticed that mentioning that I'm vegetarian brings up the loaded word issue. My favorite instance is when my grandmother asked me how in the world I would find a husband if I never cooked any meat. I was in elementary school. Nowadays, I don't like mentioning that I'm vegetarian. It's true, they'll usually give a story about how they react to it. I can nod my head and say uhhuh. I've never told people I'm allergic as a means to avoid the conversation.
That is classic what your Grandmother said!! In the end it us just what people know (and don't know). Thanks for sharing your experiences Jessica! I appreciate it.
If you want to say your allergic to everything like meat eggs and everything. You could say you have PKU- which is someone that literally can't eat any meat, eggs, dairy, or anything of that nature. I have a friend that has that.
I like dark chocolate for dessert or popcorn. But to be honest, I'm not one for ice cream or stuff lilke that. But you could probably have sorbet... OR you just might lose the cravings....
alittlebitofjake, if you go to a market like Whole Foods they have a lot vegan ice creams. Truly many of them are delicious> It's like eating real ice cream.
Wow that sounds delicious!!! I'll have to take a trip to Whole Foods as see what they have in their freezers. Oh and I was introduced to a new store called From the Heart maybe it will be there!

I never thought to say that I'm allergic. Hey, that might work to make people leave me alone. Thanks for the idea. :)
