$1,200 for the reprogrammer. I could buy either HPTuners or the GM Tech 2 scanner for less than that. I really don't see any justification for buying it. I could just take my car in to a dealer and have them update the software if it needs it. Even that would be cheaper than the reprogrammer.

There is failure to communicate and it is reprogramming your pcm will not make it communicate if it has communication problems is most likely a short to ground on v-ref or pcm relay problems in fact most updates are not for the engine the are for transmission and after working for ford for almost 10 years i can tell you that maybe only 3 out of the 1,000 i did actually resolved the customer concern and most likley attempting this yourself can cause the pcm to crash during programming

hello I have taken a c1500 chevy truck and turned it into a k1500 the 2 trucks I used where both 97 trucks as to keep the interchange problems to a min. every thing is great but my speedo is now 6 miles slow at 50 mph I have reset comp to tire size, changed antilock comp from the 2 to the 4wd swapped dash in trucks the only thing I left to check is the wheel speed sensors or does the reluctor ring the same in a 4l60e and on and transfer case
i have a friend who has a 2004 chry sebring that he was told needs to be flashed. i wasn't there to hear it, but he says that the tech who told him that said the dealership won't or can't do it. does that make sense? anyway, cool to know it can be done on our own...what does a piece of equip like the flash 2 cost? curious....
@MrSiyamson na, you have a problem. on those, when the check engine light comes on, it automaticallyturns the VSC off, so then that light comes on too.
thanks scotty for replying to my message, when i sent you the question about the reprogramming for the saturn i forgot to mention the car was involved in a wreck and has being without battery, ducts from the radiator to transmission, and had to get a new key...everything is put together but the car wont turn on all the way,, will your previous answer also apply to this situation?several mechanics looked at the car with no fix..thanks for your quick response!!!

@lilibeth1987 doubt reprogramming is your problem, and anyway, there are not saturn dealers left so they don't update programming on em anymore. Watch my video "how to fix a car that idles poorly" it may be one of those. Scotty
@scottykilmer i (well,my now ex wife) has a 09 Saturn Aura XE. The warranty and repairs were transferred over to a local Chevrolet dealer...they had to mess with the computer when i went nuts with the sport shift and messed it all up. They just plugged it in and i had it back 45 minutes later. OReilly Auto Parts reprograms all OBDII computers on all models as well.
thank you scotty......i own a 1997 Mazda Protege...and i know an alternate way to re-program the computer so the engine light problem should disappear-unscrew the negative terminal cable running to battery..let it sit for 30seconds and as you are waiting..press the brake pedal.re-connect the negative terminal cable to the battery and viola!!start up the engine..and the light should disappear.

@danduun I think I have answer for you. You can add electrical turbo to your engine which will cost couple hundred dollars. just goggle for electrical turbo. you just need about half an hour to install it and it adds about 10 to 20 percent to vehicle horse powers.
Hey Scotty some guy came over today and did something to my Ford F150 to make a new ignition work since the last one messed up. He charged me alot and I was wondering if you know what type of device he could have possible used?
i have a 2000 dodge neon that i believe my ecu burnt out. if i get a replacement like a used one from a similar car and attach it to my car what steps do i need to go through to reprogram it or can i just leave that one on as is? thanks
@shariqak11 You need a reprogrammer to pass through the programming, it's the ONLY way it can be done. There are other models of course, but none are cheap. Scotty

@kosinatorable your warning systerm is broken IF all the lights do work now. Just take the dash out and throw the bulb away in that case unless you want to trace down that short, a real fun job.Scotty
ok @scottykilmer I need your help asap I own a 1999 plymouth breeze I woke up and went to turn my car on my dash for my gas gauge mile metter and park reverse N,D Lights didnt turn on my a/c turned on but didnt run cold every thing else was working fine the car made no noises the stereo was working it was driving, Anyways I took it a local repair shop they had to restart my computer and the was no wire problems of any sort note it has 96 k miles on it has never done this its working fine now

I refuse to let my vehicles become an IPhone, they are tools for a specific purpose and I call the shots. The only good factory ECM is one you can sell on Ebay. I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. It has some unusual electrical gremlins.. gauges flicker and wildly swing back and forth. Radio goes up and down, it will pop and go off then come back on. The overhead lights flicker, head lights flicker, the van intermittently won't start because it isn't getting enough power to spark plugs to generate an acceptable spark (floods the engine) it also stalls while driving. The SRS, Brake and Check Engine lights will flicker on and off as well, and DING!
@TimLenhartTech Don't know if you can make any suggestions, the alternator has been replaced with a rebuilt unit and is charging correctly. The battery is brand new and has been tested. I checked the battery to body ground and that is ok. I would greatly appreciate any input, the van only has 42k miles on it and Chrysler refuses to do anything about it.

@TimLenhartTech As I said, the computer ultimately controls charging in that van. Could be a bad ECM if the alternator is charging. the ECM controls voltage regulation on that thing. Scotty
@scottykilmer apparently you haven't heard of the vast problems with the cold solder on the instrument cluster. lol Besides that with Chryslers the BCM controls 90% of electronic functions non essential to engine function. Tim Check your accessory relay that is most likely the problem. If not check the HVAC ground and finally tear apart your cluster and check the solder joints
@ the odometer change comments, There are tools out there that can reprogram the mileage displayed in your instrument panel. They are kindof pricey but are available.
From an earlier quote "this isn't for a computer that isn't communicating correctly, that would be a circuit issue requiring replacement". So is the video a lie or is that statement a lie? Because they are a tad bit at odds.
Haha, I could now hack into the car's computer and program the car by switching the commands around so the brake pedal controls the gas and the gas pedal controls the brakes.
I could create mayhem by programming traffic lights with only ONE command which keeps all the lights green.

So if I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 (made by GM at the time), could I use simple reprogrammers or tuners like that instead of investing tons in imported racing tuners like bsr's handheld tuner (unrestricts accel. Fuel management etc)? Or does it just restore default ECU settings?
@Marter713 the reprogrammer would work, but you'd need the software to come from somewhere, the device itself just uses already formatted software and erases the old programs and installs the new ones. Scotty

maybe i m wrong , but after a new software on motorcycles i have to run it min 15 min to recalibriting the system. In this time NO Throttle or other manipulations, just let is run and find out what he have new with all sensors. Mainly the mapping and the cpu soft is nothing for beginners, when you screw it up you can demag your engine. When you do not make the self diagnostic after the software set up the car / bike is running in savemode , means, high consume ( the cpu injects more gasoline )

Can't reprogram a Ford and Chrysler computer and GM is the only one you can do this to.Once the computer is programed on a Ford and Chrysler,they are done.GM has the best Computers,are reusable and can be reprogramed with a TISH program and the Tech 2 putting in the vin

@AHillLuke Yes, it will erase all the info and if you have an immobilizer, you will have to have that reprogrammed too. Generally only dealers and locksmiths have that capabiity. Scotty
I wonder how common this is. Of all the cars I've owned, this has never happened. Of course, sensors have failed or wire harnesses but never an ECU/DME.
@andersoncity You have lost communiucation with the computer system. It can be many things, from a bad sensor shorting out the system to a wiring short to a bad computer. If you want a guess from me, the computers on those crappers go bad all the time. Scotty

ok @scottykilmer I need your help asap I own a 1999 plymouth breeze I woke up and went to turn my car on my dash for my gas gauge mile metter and park reverse N,D Lights didnt turn on my a/c turned on but didnt run cold every thing else was working fine the car made no noises the stereo was working it was driving, Anyways I took it a local repair shop they had to restart my computer and the was no wire problems of any sort note it has 96 k miles on it has never done this its working fine now

Scarooo thaaat. If I can't make it work with Megasquirt or mechanical turbo-diesel injection...I won't drive it. I refuse to let my vehicles become an IPhone, they are tools for a specific purpose and I call the shots. The only good factory ECM is one you can sell on Ebay. It's bad enough that we have depend on cars in the first place, let alone pay for proprietary technical expertise.

I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. It has some unusual electrical gremlins.. gauges flicker and wildly swing back and forth. Radio goes up and down, it will pop and go off then come back on. The overhead lights flicker, head lights flicker, the van intermittently won't start because it isn't getting enough power to spark plugs to generate an acceptable spark (floods the engine) it also stalls while driving. The SRS, Brake and Check Engine lights will flicker on and off as well, and DING!

@TimLenhartTech Don't know if you can make any suggestions, the alternator has been replaced with a rebuilt unit and is charging correctly. The battery is brand new and has been tested. I checked the battery to body ground and that is ok. I would greatly appreciate any input, the van only has 42k miles on it and Chrysler refuses to do anything about it.

@TimLenhartTech As I said, the computer ultimately controls charging in that van. Could be a bad ECM if the alternator is charging. the ECM controls voltage regulation on that thing. Scotty

@scottykilmer apparently you haven't heard of the vast problems with the cold solder on the instrument cluster. lol Besides that with Chryslers the BCM controls 90% of electronic functions non essential to engine function. Tim Check your accessory relay that is most likely the problem. If not check the HVAC ground and finally tear apart your cluster and check the solder joints

Haha, I could now hack into the car's computer and program the car by switching the commands around so the brake pedal controls the gas and the gas pedal controls the brakes.
I could create mayhem by programming traffic lights with only ONE command which keeps all the lights green.
Thanks to technology, being a computer programmer is fun now since every darn thing is computer-controlled. So there are fun things to hack!!!!

So if I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 (made by GM at the time), could I use simple reprogrammers or tuners like that instead of investing tons in imported racing tuners like bsr's handheld tuner (unrestricts accel. Fuel management etc)? Or does it just restore default ECU settings?

@Marter713 the reprogrammer would work, but you'd need the software to come from somewhere, the device itself just uses already formatted software and erases the old programs and installs the new ones. Scotty

@Matthew55904 It will work on any 96 and up obd II car sold in the US. It is just a tool, you have to get the software for it to upload, if you can find higher hp software, you could use it. Scotty

maybe i m wrong , but after a new software on motorcycles i have to run it min 15 min to recalibriting the system. In this time NO Throttle or other manipulations, just let is run and find out what he have new with all sensors. Mainly the mapping and the cpu soft is nothing for beginners, when you screw it up you can demag your engine. When you do not make the self diagnostic after the software set up the car / bike is running in savemode , means, high consume ( the cpu injects more gasoline )

Can't reprogram a Ford and Chrysler computer and GM is the only one you can do this to.Once the computer is programed on a Ford and Chrysler,they are done.GM has the best Computers,are reusable and can be reprogramed with a TISH program and the Tech 2 putting in the vin

I love working in cars, but this system which has deserved a video and I have kindly attached as an answer to your reprogramming video is driving me nuts! Is there any disclosed information about PASSLOCK? I can't start my car because of it. It clearly says in the owner's manual that the feature would lock the injection system, and that's exactly what's happening! Help, Mr. KILMER! Please!! :(

I wonder how common this is. Of all the cars I've owned, this has never happened. Of course, sensors have failed or wire harnesses but never an ECU/DME.

@andersoncity You have lost communiucation with the computer system. It can be many things, from a bad sensor shorting out the system to a wiring short to a bad computer. If you want a guess from me, the computers on those crappers go bad all the time. Scotty
