I can understand why someone would think this after only seeing him once, but those of us who have seen him perform numerous times do have a different opinion. I saw him perform this live, and I thought it was hilarious. I've also seen him perform in shows, and he's really good.

i've been out of college for a couple of years BUT, I am pretty sure showcases are all about first impressions. Maybe this was just a showcase for parents, but for agents and casting agents... definitely all about the first impression.

Showcases are about showing your forte`. Therefore, if you're a character actor, which he obviously is, then you do a piece that showcases that aspect of your abilities.

Absolutely... but there is a difference between showcasing your beautiful voice (which he has) in a musical comedy piece, and mugging thru a gimmicky song.
