I found it to be like a Chinese Pittsburgh or Milwaukee. Its a big city but its really not that interesting but rather industrial. A good excursion from Shenyang is Dandong which is only 3 hours away by train. The DPRK border is pretty cool to tour.
Shenyang is so wonderful and many attractions to see. Any city in Wisconsin sucks.
