Also, if they fall off their ships, does that mean they'll fall forever down endless space? I typed this before the conveniently placed space vacuum plot device but the question still stands.
Isn't Sylua's weapon actually a pike? Though I see what you did there....
I tend to try and keep a sort of theme to my references and it was just a toss up between klingons and phantom which, well, phantom won hands down. Plus, then people wouldn't be able to make comments like "Wow, how did you not make a klingon reference there?!"
Taking an already epic song, converting the lyrics into a parody hilarious enough to laugh the entire way through, and THEN singing it amazingly on top of that. Wow.
Thus far in my personal experience, musicals have been a fun little highlight in most abridged series. What immediately comes to mind in terms of abridged shows with great musicals are Yugioh, Princess Tutu, TFS DBZA, and of course Glass Fleet. I love it when iconic songs are exploited for comedic purposes.
I have to agree with Sketch, I figured I'd go through it all, and man. From what I've seen of Last Exile, I certainly enjoy this much more. Maybe it's because I came into Last Exile late and have trouble following it, but Glass Fleet with its phallic imagery and your spin on it is fantastic. The singing in this episode was top notch, too. I much enjoyed the Unwardilian choir.
Ha, I suppose I should've clarified. I tend to start in the middle of a show to get a better indication of the creator's take on it, rather than the first. I was puzzled by what I saw (episode 7 or so, maybe?) so I backtracked and still had no clue what was going on. I'll probably watch it again and pay more attention to it; since the average abridged series requires the attention span of a 12-year-old, perhaps I wasn't in the right mindset.
I finally caught up to where the abridger left off. I don't like the anime, but i enjoyed this. I am familiar with the long-winded approach to humor from another abridger. I am not going to say I understand all of it though. i am impressed with the impersonation of sound effects. Good job!
Oh, an Unwardil musical number, how lovely it is. While I'm not enjoying this abridgement as much as I did Last Exile, likely because I've never actually seen the show this one is based on, it's still fantastic.
lol, when I saw that scene I proclaimed in a loud voice, "oh great, SO NOW THERE"S A VACUUM?!?!" Also, nice job with the musical number in this episode. I liked those musical numbers in Last Exile Abridged and I'm glad you carried that over to this series. Seriously, you should make a CD or something. You could become the Weird Al Yankovich of anime fans.
Well, see, a Halberd is only a very specific design of poleaxe with a spear point, an axe blade and an armor piercing spike on the reverse side. This weapon has no reverse spike so it's much more comprable to a voulge or even a viking waraxe. Also, Halberd doesn't rhyme with Relax.
Well, you see it is not quite comparable with a viking waraxe because a viking war axe has the blade on both sides and has a much shorter range. Although, I do agree that is comparable to a voulge.
i understood all the clever jokes in this episode because i'm smart...and not because the creator of this fine series explained them all to me in great detail with sock puppets during a skype call several days earlier...*cough*
wow Cassius can get....high - seriously PUT A WARNING ON THIS THING! but bravo with the singing. grats for not just referencing the musical but doing an entire parody of the main song.
Whoosh! Took much hilarity to accurately quantify! Really, classic! (Or should that be "Classic, really!"? =D). How do you make such disparate humor angles flow together so flawlessly?
I think Vetti really made this episode for me. I mean, the song: Awesome. The rest of the jokes were also really good. But Vetti's Grammar persecution just really made me want to roll around on the floor next to a my (now lapless) cat and make the neighbors wonder why I was laughing this time.
It might have something to do with the college app. essay I've been struggling to write for the past 3 days.
Yeah, well, HBI was obviously the first person I asked but he wasn't intrested.
Seriously though? Too subtle? Well I must be doing something right if it still comes across as subtle, despite the preponderance of penis jokes I cram into ever episode.... Giggety.
Well, I generally take the baritone melody, cause I'm a whore like that, then we've got Prowardil on Bass, Cuntwardil on Soprano, Cockwardil takes the Tenor harmony and for this one we just had to get a SamtheGreek clone for the Alto and punch him in the balls until he could sing that high.
considering how i couldn't get into the actually anime since it didn't seem all that entertaining to me, your abridged version is keeping me quite entertained. gotta love your sense of humor. =P

@Unwardil surprised you catched a comment on a year old video^^
I watched the better part of GFA today and despite never having heard of that series i really enjoyed it.
It shows a vast improvement over LEA, which was a tough sit from time to time, and I hope ypu do more, even though the views inexplicably get fewer.
A The Good Son reference would have fit perfectly with your record of outdated movie references, just sayin' ;)

Well, glad you're liking this but, you are allowed to start at the begining of last Exile and watch the episodes in sequence. I mean, it's allowed.
It actually won't help your understanding any though. Watch from 9 to the end first, then start at the begining and watch the whole thing.
That's actually the best way to watch the real series too for what it's worth.

However, I did prefer the opening from the previous episodes. It sounded French/Japanese.

The one in this episode was there only because of the Escaflowne refrence.

I usually think that unwardil's comedy style is either too subtle or too obscurely referencing, but this episode was absolutely flawless!
