i just want to say i have the same thought about the ipad, i thought its kinda stupid useless and dumb.. and even when i got it and bought it home, i thought it was stupid and crap as i already had a mac book pro... BUT after a while after a jailbroke it and started watch videos and stuff on it, you really apreciate the portability and the fact the batttery lasts FOREVER..... if only laptops were the same..

if you had no computer in your home and it was either a laptop or a ipad.. get an laptop.. ipads are for people that already have computers, or for people that just want to serve the net and watch videos

My Quadcore PC is even better than any available Laptop. I just tested today the speed of loading the "xda-developers"-website with a)PC: 1.1 Sec.(DSL 32000) b)Iphone 4 3G: 9.8 Seconds. But I am sure one day in a few years they will be equal (I would guess five years from now).

When iOS 5 comes out, you won't need a computer to activate the iPad, update the software, and neither backup. The iPad can replace a laptop if you are mostly a media consumer and not someone who creates content like a photo and video editor, and programmer. The laptop is definitely superior because of all the things you can do of course, but it depends on what you do. Everyone is different :)

any laptop from bestbuy for $500 is a clunky and heavy piece of shit that will only last a year, whereas the ipad is light and thing. Because you already have a desktop, why do you need another one because thats all a $500 laptop is good for... and the ipad can transfer songs easier than using a harddrive, all you need to do is plug it in and click a button, and you can't play any game you want on a shitty $500 laptop....
