  • the reason elliott had his win drought was due to moving to being an owner/driver. you race totally different when you gotta foot the bill for a wrecked race car. the first season he went back to being a driver, he won a race and finished top 10 in points. the next he won 2 in a row including Indianapolis

  • Almost everybody had Bill written off by the middle of 1993.He was far from finished. Was he still going to win 8 or 9 in a season? No of course not,but he wasnt as "washed up" as alot of people claimed.

  • Man these 500 Mile races @ the old Darlington were grueling. I dont know how many current drivers could actually get around this track competently. You had to manhandle a car for 4+ hours just to finish.

  • is it just me or is the finish line on the backstretch back then

  • @KoRn4LyFe yep they flip flopped the track a few years ago

  • Why does Auto Club have two races?? What joke Darlington is awesome it has so much history and tradition and needs to have two races. Oh to all of you Gordon fans David Pearson won 10 races at the Lady In Black.

  • Jerry Punch sucked doing commentary back then, too.

  • This race was Bill Elliott's first win since the season finale in Atlanta on November 15, 1992. Awesome Bill went to the victory lane for the final time before he left Junior Johnson at the end of that season and began to drive and own his independent team for 1995.

Bill Elliott would not visit the winner's circle for the next 226 races and he would not win until Homestead on November 11, 2001.

  • I remember watching this race live. It was Elliott's last win until about 2002 I think when he won at Pocono and then Indy.

This was also the last race on that rough old pavement. In the spring of 1995, the Lady in Black got a facelift.

  • 2001 homestead was first win in evernhams nine car

  • Jeff Gordon is the best driver at Darlington. How many Southern 500 races has he won? Like 5?

  • Including 4 straight from 95-98. The other he won in 02'.

  • I never got to see any of this race because I was in school because this race was on a weekday because it was rained out...I listened to it on the radio. Bill Elliott won and didn't win again till 2001, 226 races later.

  • I listened to it on the radio as well. Eli, Allen and Barney Hall were an awesome trio.

AWESOME RACE! I miss the Southern 500.

  • The old bells ringing in the Dawsonville Pool Hall, that was the celebration when Bill Elliott won a race. I'm sure they still have it handy in case he ever wins again.

  • the pool hall is great isn't it!

  • One of the worst things nascar ever did was getting rid of the southern 500 on labor day weekend. I hope somewhere somebody realizes how big of a mistake this was and returns the southern 500.

  • Darlington is iconic, Auto Club is not. I agree with this 100%.

  • They'd get one rebel if I could ever get my shot. Alas, I'm poor so nobody will help me. Have to do it on my own I guess.

  • Way to go Bill! NASCAR needs some Georgia drivers that actually win! Hey battalion do you have any video of the '94 Transouth 400?
