  • Is this a surprise? If it were up to these people, gay sex would still be illegal, and all gay people would be forced into "treatment facilities".

  • Kenballer00, ther does not need to be an amendment, because Maine enacted a law establishing same sex marriage there. But in time Im sure the US Supreme Court will use the 14th Amendment to overturn laws against same sex marriage, just as they used it to strike down Colorados Amendment 2. Section 1 of the 14th Amendment did not limit equal protection under the law to freed slaves, it applies to everyone, then and now.

  • I wan to see the tax exemption for every god damned Catholic church stripped away. How dare they think they can infringe on others rights to protect their delicate religious beliefs.

  • You know, "Christians" used the same sort of argument against interracial marriage when it was legalized. They said God separated the races & was opposed to it, and that it would lead to/was the equivalent of beastiality.

Legalizing one thing doesn't mean we have to legalize everything. Did we legalize every drug when we legalized alcohol? Did we let children vote when we gave women the vote?

  • Also, no one is born only attracted to their nephew or family members. Gay people are born only attracted to the same sex, no matter how much you beat your fists and want to deny that.

There's no issue with two unrelated consenting adults together. There are major issues with incest and child abuse. If you can't tell the difference, you're a complete moron. Grow up.

  • This has nothing to do with incest or pedophilia.

  • the "Yes on 1" campaign appear to be keen to tell any lie to get marriage equality in Maine removed and to strip lesbian and gay Mainers of their civil rights. So they now pretend they are happy with domestic partnerships when they were fighting against them five years ago. So in five years they will be for marriage equality then?

  • there is not a single amendment that confers a right to same sex marriage

  • Perhaps you've heard of the 14th amendment? Equal Protection Clause?

  • Go to Wikipedia and type in Baker v. Nelson. The case will show you that the same court in Loving v Virginia not only distinguished same sex marriage from interracial marriage, but established it as a right that does not exist under the constitution and never did. so the 14 amendment does not confer a RIGHT to gay marriage anymore than it does for polygamy.

  • That case does set precedent for same-sex marriage. But just because one court decided that there was no right to same-sex marriage, does not mean it does not exist. Have you ever heard of Dred Scott or Plessy v. Ferguson?

Many state courts have already decided that the right does exist. I don't know if you've read any of their decisions, but they make a very very compelling case. The Supreme Court could easily hear arguments again, and reverse their former decision.
