My Dad was a POW during WWII. After capture he spent 10 days on a cattle car freezing. When he got to Germany he was processed the 1st day then started a death marchedt the next. He started out with an est 3000 US soldiers and finished 6 months later with 900. My father went from 186 lbs down to 108lbs. He had everything from dysintary to pneumonia. He died at age 92 a& always claimed it was "the limeys in that camp" that showed him how to survive.

My Dad was a POW during WWII. After capture he spent 10 days on a cattle car freezing. When he got to Germany he was processed the 1st day then started a death marchedt the next. He started out with an est 3000 US soldiers and finished 6 months later with 900. My father went from 186 lbs down to 108lbs. He had everything from dysintary to pneumonia. He died at age 92 a& always claimed it was "the limeys in that camp" that showed him how to survive.

@AnAutumnsDay well that would be the worst thing in american history expect we have the the "trail of tears," the nuking of Japanese cities, the slave trade, and the occupation of Mexico after the mexican american war.. All of these involve civilians, and while I understand that "soldiers are people too" I think it a much bigger crime, no matter the difference in numbers, to kill an innocent civilian than it is a soldier.

@CaptainHellblaze well if you think so, then you could also have mentioned the innocent German civilians who were killed in the deliberate carpet bombing and the resulting fire storms in Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden etc and the USAF's murderous role in this, the US's other war crime ! The estimated numbers of 300,000 innocent German civilians killed and 600,000 wounded may not be as high as in the other war crime of the Million murdered German POW's but as war crimes go, it's right up there!

If they produced foodstuffs, ammunition, armaments, unforms, boots and blankets for the Wehrmacht, their efforts had to be stopped. One overriding thing to remember.......Herr Hitler started all this mess, NOT the allies. He had ample opportunity to surrender and failed to do so, thus prolonging the agony for the German people. Yes, all the killing was horrendous but should be laid at the feet of those responsible.

Secondly the US and Germany i guess fought by what the Germans had established early on in the war as "rules of engagement" if there truly were any. It was mainly in the air and air raids were supposed to only attack the targets, if ANYTHING hit somewhere else it would be considered an accident.

@AnAutumnsDay Thirdly, US pow camps were nothing like what you had explained. The European war took care of its POW's. It was a mutual understanding between the two superpowers. Germany had taken prisoners of war to their camps and didn't do shit to them as did the us. Fourth, if the US had ever committed and true crimes, it would be the executions of SMALL groups of soldiers being taken prisoner by small groups going AGAINST orders because of revenge purposes. -

@AnAutumnsDay - and the REAL crimes of war were in the Pacific, where almost no prisoners were taken, however, the fighting was so intense and crazy, that both sides had a mutual hatred for each other. not just an ooooh ur my enemy type thing like with Germany, but a bitter resentment of the other side. At this point, shit was so crazy, that there truly aren't any exact estimates. However, since the US soldiers went through so much shit, i wont give them shit. -

I respect the soldiers who fought there even if they had killed pows. and yes, it truly was the losing side that had the blunt of it all. but in comparison, the us didn't do any bad... except in the pacific.
