Josh Williams is the best guitar player in bluegrass today, I wish him and Tony Rice would have been able to reach the peak of their skills in the same time period. That would have been one of the best battles in IBMA history for guitar player of the year.
I love Alison but Rhonda has not forgotten that she is bluegrass and 'crossed over' into Rock/Pop like Alison. Next to Sonya Isaacs, Rhonda is the best out there. Wow! Just thought, wouldn't that make a beautiful noise-Alison, Rhonda and Sonya singing together?
If what you're saying is that Josh wants to front his own band and do his own thing, OK. That's fine. But to say he's too big for Rhonda Vincent's band, at this point in history, just isn't true.
She's great, but she won't keep Josh Williams very long.... He's head and sholders over that whole band. Amazing to think that, but watch and see. He is without an equal!!
Head and shoulder over that whole band??? Uh... I think that Kenny and Hunter might have a little something to say about that. Oh, he's a great flatpicker, no doubt. But he's not overshadowing this band. He's lucky to have this gig. There's a million Tony Rice clones out there these days.
Your correct, there are several pickers that are as good or nearly as Tony and your listening to one of them. I've learned from 35 years in the music business that it really doesn't matter how good you are unless you have a place to play. No one knows if they can't hear you! Josh is no longer with the Rage. He has his own band now. It must be really tiring for you to pack that big brain around all day..
"I've learned from 35 years in the music business that it really doesn't matter how good you are unless you have a place to play. No one knows if they can't hear you!"
Not sure what point you're trying to make here. Rhonda and the Rage play a LOT of gigs... he would be heard if he were still with her. My 31 years of experience in bluegrass tells me that Josh while being a very good guitar picker, is not bigger than Rhonda Vincent at this point. Ronnie Bowman says "howdy" to the LRB.
The statement that you didn't understand the point was refering to the "There is a million Tony Rice clones out the these days" line. Again I say it doesn't matter how many people play as good as Rice and Williams. If they aren't being heard it doesn't matter how good they are. That is why Mr. Atkins was never dethroned as "Mr. Guitar".Lots of Nashville folks know that there were country pickers better than Chet, but they did not get the exposure. So the public just knew Mr. Atkins was the icon.
Hot dam! that woman can sing! It dont get much better than this boys! That fiddle player is the "Sh*t!" My cousins husband knows the fiddle player actually. He says I can meet the band or the players when I come up to portland this summer. I can wait! So funny cause I am such a big fan of Rhonda's singing and have all her albums. And now my cousin knows the band! Woooh hooo!
Couldnt agree more. Rhonda and all of her band are outstanding artists. Alas, to find a woman with her beauty and talent...Josh Williams is a great picker, but I liked them with Audie Blaylock as well.
this band is amazing. i dont understand how people can pick guitar like that. i got to jam with rhonda down at the grass vally festival. it was a great expirience
I saw Rhonda and Rage for the first time tonight on OETA Television Network. She sings like she musta been born on Rocky Top in Tennesse. Yup...Fer Sure. Weee-Doggies that girl can sing....!
Josh is unbelievable on the guitar. I saw them in E Hartford CT and he's better in person. Incredible combination of speed, taste and drive. And who doesn't love Rhonda.
Josh has won guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and dobro championships in several states. He is from West Kentucky and is the poster child for multi instrumental perfection.
Great pickin' & vocals smooth with excellent energy. Glad I found you. Thanks for posting.
