  • Did it sound good? Even at high rpms? I have 1 too with a glasspack and im about to cut the cat off to make it louder please let me know

  • @averageman67 It sounded alright, but at highway speeds ( about 2000rpm ) it would "thrum" cyclically. When you are commuting 25 miles with that, it gets old fast. I replaced the entire exhaust system back to stock and didn't even notice a difference it mileage or power to be honest.

  • lol I did that with my Civic, I used a test pipe. I did this only when I went to drag races. It was a pipe with a Cat shell.

  • i need to do this with my XJ jeep.

  • For those interested, the transmission on the truck is on the way out at 202k..sounds like the planetary is giving up the ghost. The truck still runs strong as ever, runs through the gears just fine. Just every once and a while, you can hear a piece of metal singing like a pissed off violin as it gets chewed through whatever is eating it up. Not sure if I'm going to fix the trans or sell it as is. With 202k on it, it's not worth much to me as I've already replaced it with an Astro.

  • I've already replaced the entire exhaust system back to stock including a new converter...I was sick of hearing the noise everyday on my 30 minute commute.

No emissions testing in MN, and the backpressure issue wasn't noticeable up or down as far as power was concerned. Then again, the truck just hit 200k...still has strong ponies left in it.

  • will it still pass emissions?

  • @blue6023 most factory made cars wont pass emissions test brand new. those kinds of test are just pointless. the only way around one when you fail one is to fill your exhaust up with water so the humid steam that comes out makes the sensor fail to read no2 works every time. :-)

  • sounds like a ricer

  • @homerunhita12 You should probably see a doctor about that then.

  • a lot of smoke coming out.

  • @jervy007 It was cold that morning and it was the first time I had started it that day, hence the smoke.

  • @redfury111 oh i thought that's what happen when you don't have a cat converter..

  • @redfury111 so rev it so it blows if its cold

  • @redfury111 sorry....... but it doesnt breath out the same amount the car breaths in, then your ganna lose alot of power by straight piping that bitch..... if i were u i would put it back to normal...... just letting you know..... not a good idea...plus the smog test is ganna fail.....

  • @redfury111 why are all scrap or salvage stores people obsessed with the catalytic converters ? I was selling an old car and everyone one of them asked only two questions ( make sure to have the cars title and it comes with a complete catalytic converter ) , he wasn't worried about the engine or gear or how many miles i had . could you please explain ?

  • my rear 02's have been fastened to the frame. No codes 19.5-20 in town with a 5spd.

  • BTW, I replaced the entire exhaust system back to stock recently ( the old muffler fell off from rust ) and haven't noticed enough of a performance increase/decrease to say whether the removal of the cat had any impact. The only thing I can say is, I sure do like my quiet truck! Actually being muffled allowed me to pinpoint a bad wheel bearing and upper balljoint before they failed. Loud pipes may save lives, but quiet pipes can save you cash.

  • GIT R DONE !!! Redneck are funny motherfuckers !!

  • damn hippies

  • I had a 95 Dakaota and the insides of the cat fell apart and I took it in for emisions test and it still passed then I just cut it out till the next test

  • If you have a bad gutted or you removed the cat you should get more HP and better acceleration, but to pass emissions and keep the check engine light off and outta safe mode you need a o2 cel fix. I removed mine and got the cel fix from bigdaddiesgarage com Man this was the easy cheap way to get rid of those problems.

  • I have a 2005 nissan titan se with bad cats. I drove it earlier today and was topping out at about 25 mph. I would rev it to about 2500 rpms before the engine would die. I barely had enough power to drive 2 miles back to my house. The engine jerked from 1000 rpms to 4000 rpms consistantly. I have a magnaflow muffler and 4 inch tip so it was noticeable that I had bad cats when I backfired 6 times accelerating. Cops were on me like white on rice!!!

  • sounds good!

  • well, you do need a cat on these trucks you have 4 02 sensors on the exhaust system.one before and one after on each side. they tell the truck if the air fuel mix is too lean or to rich. removing the cat will tell the computer that the truck is running lean all the time.and will burn alot more fuel resulting in poor mpg and power loss. the only way it will work is if you can reflash the computer to eliminate 2 o2 sensors usually the 2 after the cat but i dont know of any programmers that will.

  • i dont know much about o2 sensors but what you said got me thinking... wouldnt the sensors read that the truck was running too rich because the exhaust is not being treated molecularly (with the catalyst in the catalytic converter) and still has residual fuel? it was just a thought.

  • @bmxbroseph just got to reading this...The O2 sensor behind the cats job is pretty much just to tell the computer if the Cat is doing its job. It will set a code if the range it is reading is off too much from what the computer expects to see. My O2 sensor on the engine side was new, vs the old one behind the cat, so the range was different enough to not set a code at all.

  • what are the symptoms of a clogged cat cuz my car burns oil, and it revs up by itself and rpms jerk all over

  • Well if your just on a stock cat they have a honeycomb center, and once your caat is clogged yu will usually notice black metal shit spurting out your exhaust, unless your cat has a cover which it may. But the symptoms are really losing power. Because all the air exiting your engine has to eventually make its way thru your clogged cat and your just gunna be putting more stress on your transmission by pushing your engine so hard just to get past the clogged up cat.

  • my truck had a blocked catalytic converter ... idled fine but when i reved it up only went to 2000 rpm

you might have a bad TPS or vacuum leak

  • @BeastElite Check your car for vacum leaks [causing rough idle and surges] the easiest way to check you converter to see if its clogged is demonstrated on scotty kilmers you tube video BTW I just replaced my converter after failing a smog test [gross polluter] ..retested clean as a whistle..smog tech could'nt beleive the improvement....check pcv system for oil consumption..good luck ..your car could be great with a few inexpensive repairs

  • OK... #1, backpressure is irrelevant, not a real physical quality to an exhaust system. A catalyst removal will not have a major effect on "backpressure". 2. Carbon monoxide is not affected by the catalyst. There will be CO no matter if you have open headers or a complete oem emissions setup.

  • If you want better MPG, then if is rellavant. The cat absolutely creates backpressure. BP keeps fuel in the cylinder. Too much BP results in restricted exhaust flow, resulting in poor engine performance. Not enough BP results in unburned fuel exiting the cylinder, decreasing MPG.

It becomes a fine balance of when there is too much, or too little.

  • DOESNT A CAR EMMIT CARBON DIOXIDE. iSNT THAT THE SAME STUFF THAT PEOPLE EMMIT?

  • no its carbon monoxide

  • Converters are garbage. Any old school mechanic will tell you that. My dodge ram has the cat removed & I can pass smog all day long. Keep your shit running right & clean & you dont need a cat.

  • so are there any lomg term effects of runnig your car with out a cat with the exhaust straight piped into a flowmaster

  • Oh hell no man. That sounds like a pretty good set up to me if yu have a muffler still on there? Cuz if your running an aftermarket exhaust system without a muffler and without cats then yu may have too little BP. But if your running it Full Straight pipe then that cant sound too great either.

  • THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON DUMBASS. EMISSION TESTING IS ALSO THERE FOR A REASON!! This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. I guess its F the environment and the AIR WE BREATH. Look up the Clean Air Act and you will see that if it wasn't for that and their air regulations we would be breathing out of BOTTLES!

  • Dont listen to him! Drive a big car for a warmer tomorrow!

  • Go talk your shit somewhere else, like with your siera club buddies!

  • ok ok yeah kill the air BUT SAVE LOADS ON GAS and relieve back pressure on the engine =D

  • WOW such an ignorant action. Do you know that you Catalytic Converter is the only thing stopping over 80% of the hydocarbons, carbon monoxide, and NOx

from coming out your tailpipe? If you dont know what those are.. well lets just say if you have a room with a running car with a catalytic converter and another room with a running car with no cat. You will DIE about 7 times faster in the room without the catylictic converter. Dose that tell you anything?

  • Sweet now I'm going to remove the converter on my other car!

  • dude you still die if you are dumb enough to sit in a closed room with a running car

  • cool, i'm planning removing mine too, but with a small silencer which looks like cat.

  • souds like my 95s10 with duals on it

  • I didn't post this for bragging purposes. I got the truck with the exhaust the way it is. I put this up for anyone looking to see what a V6 dak sounded like with an aftermarket exhaust system.

Hey, I'd much rather have a V8. My 1965 Fury3 had true duals and a big block, that was a fun car. I just didn't have a way to video tape it back when I had it, or I'd have posted that instead! So, you flamers with nothing better to do than make useless comments, go elsewhere.

  • hahahaha sounds like my friend ricer....you wana hear true duals im posting my 04 hemi with true duals with no muffler this weekend so take a look and here what a real truck suposeto sound like... not my grandmothers lawnmore!

  • hhhmmm... I would COVER my license plate if your going to post this type of thing on the internet.

  • Why? Remember he said it was only for "TESTING" purposes right?

  • i know he thought he was going to get busted by the feds what a looser

  • fuckin pussy ass v6 get a man truck .

that sounds sounds so gay . my moms ford focus is louder .

  • and let me guess you put one of those, gay ass pissed off bumble bee mufflers on it right? My V6 dakota could tear the damn axle out from under your moms toy.

  • this video really doesnt tell us anything because you failed to provide the sound of what it sounds like with the cat on.. if you hade a stock muffler that would be the equivleant but you dont't.

  • If its for testing purposes, then why the hell do you have it registered with plates. Fool!

  • i dont like the muffler you have on it, would sound better with a 50 series or a 40 series flowmaster but i guess its up to you

  • watch out for this guy he is a know it all ^. lol. sounds sweet.

  • I want that 32 seconds of my life back......Why did you post ' this ' ,more importantly.....Why did I watch it ???????

  • More power?

    Better Gas Milage.??

I drilled mine out from end to end.

Blew it out, and reattched the pipe.

    It was full,

I do not need emissions inspection, so

    it looks fine,

Mileage went up , and power,

    Also runs cooler,

  • when the catalyzer is removed do you have the check engine ligth on??

  • not if one re-attaches the post-cat o2 sensor using two spark plug anti-fouler fittings or make an o2 sim out of a 555 timer chip. ECU gets fooled into thinking everything's A-OK.

  • how would you go about doing that? leave a message on my profile with more info. I have a flowmaster 40 and it sounds good. But its not as mean as i'd like it.

  • sounds like a tractor...get a V8
