I was in Manhattan 33 years. Moved out to the country. Don't miss it at all. Being close to nature is the way to go:" Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside."
Lyrics: Green acres is the place to be farm living is the life for me land spreaded out so far and wide keep manhatten just gimmie that country side New york is where I'd rather stay I get allergic smelling hay I just adore my pen house view Darling, I love you but give me my avenue The chores! The stores! Fresh air! Town Square! You are my wife. Goodbye city life! Green acres we are there!
ENOUGH ALREADY!! If I read one more message questioning whether or not Green Acres was ever in black and white, I will scream!! I WAS ORIGINALLY FILMED IN COLOR!! BRIGHT, GARISH, VIBRANT COLOR!! NO QUESTION ABOUT IT! If you remember in black and white all that means is that you watched it on a black and white television, period! No mystery there. As for Spanish television in 1968, could be that they lacked the technology to broadcast the show in color back then. Don't know that for sure.
This is really weird but I just realized as I'm viewing this video that it is 9 PM on a Wednesday night in 2011 and this show originally ran on CBS on Wednesday nights at 9 PM. As for repelghosts,it wasn't Zsa Zsa but rather Eva Gabor who starred in this series. cmulwee001 you are absolutely right regarding this series being in color during its entire run 1965-1970 on CBS. Never in b/w. However, Lost in Space premiered the same night on CBS and was in black and white for its first season.
Does it not phase ANYONE that this is black and white when it NOT supposed to be? Green Acres was neither filmed OR broadcast in b/w at any time during it's six year run. It was in color from the very beginning, so what's up with this? Anyone know. A kinescope perhaps?
@cmulwee001 Black and white kinescopes of network TV shows were supplied to Armed Forces Radio & Television for our overseas military during the Vietnam War. These stations did not broadcast in color.
This is one of the greatest shows ever. The crap that's on now doesn't come close to the comedy, acting, wit and surrealism of this great show. 60s television was the best.
There's a lot of hidden racism in these comments. So you like the way TV was 40 years ago when the casts were all white and the plots were white-washed? That's not how life was in the 60s.
Lisa Douglas a.k.a., Eva Gabor... her art was turning the absurd into reality and she did it with class, full make-up, perfect hair, and wearing jewels that you know each had to cost more Oliver paid Mr Haney for the entire farm. I always got a kick out of Lisa asking Oliver who the people in the credits were that were scrolling up the tv screen that everyone in Hooter(s)ville and at home watching could see but Oliver could not. "Yankee Doodle..."
We used to watch this on Saturday nights right after "Jeannie" and we LOVED Lisa's little dog, 'mignon', but hated the Ziffle's for some odd reason. Mr. Haney was the original scam king but that TRACTOR was the start of the show. Good guest stars back in the day on these old sitcoms.
@3rkid2= They had an agreement. She would try it out for 6 months. If she still hated it, then they would move back to New York. For some reason, she decided to stay in Hooterville after the 6 months. Funny thing is, she fitted in more than Oliver.
I moved out to a place in the country almost like Green Acres! I can walk to the nearest village (It only has a general store, church, school and a volunteer fire department) but because of the distance have to drive to the village the county claims I actually live in. I have a telephone number from another village and pay my taxes to yet a fourth! At least I don't have to climb a pole to make a telephone call!
Cable really hurt network tv. Before the late 80's the networks had money to spend on all sorts of programs. The commercials that we all hate paid for these wonderful gems. Comedy, varity, drama, were available on three channels and I wanted to watch it all. Almost every program on any network was worth watching. One of the best tv theme songs (& series) of all time--my personal favorite! I alot of critics hated this series, thinking it pure 'corn pone'--but it actually has a lot of dry humor sprinkled over the hayseed. There is SO much absurdist behavior in this series that Beckett would've approved. It's interesting that Mr. Douglas is the only sane person in the bunch--much of the humor derives from his being appalled at his neighbors--and wife's--thinking. The inmates are running the asylum!!
My parents are much older than your average parents, so I had the privilege of watching ALL the classics. In a way, I feel like I'm more in tune with my elders than I am with people my own age... FORTUNATELY! lol! My generation is a bunch of morons and retards!
Sang the theme song to my daughter and she looks at me blankly. Suddenly felt very much like in a time warp so sharing this clip on Face Book. Loved this show as a kid and still as an adult.
@TheCrimsonsGhosts , he was a great singer. I guess his singing career got overshadowed by his TV career. Check this out: /watch?v=ONNc7eELiHE&feature=related
@TheCrimsonsGhosts , and check this out. Internet Movie Database says this: "Eddie Albert was a circus trapeze flier before becoming a stage and radio actor." How amazing is THAT?!
A natural environment is where i would rather be preferably the jungle but i would take the country over the city any time.Got to get the money to vamp this artificial camp although i've been raised with no experience of jungle life i'm highly adaptable. The one thing that I hate about the concrete jungles is the fact that most deaths are connected to a long period of suffering.
I remember I stayed home sick a few years ago and randomly decided to turn on TV land. This theme song started playing and I thought to myself "What the hell is this?" A few episodes later, I was hooked on the show and singing along with this theme.
Absolutely love all the old TV shows! I'm 26 and am absolutely addicted to Green Acres, Gilligans Island and all the oldies. Pretty sure I was born in the wrong era... Modern TV sucks!! xx
@XBOXY22 Absolutely not originally in black and white. Green Acres was in color from the very beginning. Wasn't colorized years later like many shows were. Besides all three television networks (ABC CBS NBC) went full color in primetime in September 1966, which would have been the start of Green Acres' second season.
@rachelc7878 I don't understand the influx of "Reality Shows"...whatever....get some folks with creative imaginations & give me a sitcom any day!! (and for the record..I'm 45..thought American Idol was great when it started 10 years ago, but now...tv is just stuck in 'reality tv' muck...just sick of it, I tell ya..sick of it!
@rofflemows2 still all the same ... it didn't become huge in homes untill late 80s early 90s bc i was born in 91 and i remember home videos from b4 my 2nd birthday of the tv in the background being color
@avengedsevenfold979 hmm well now its in colour! i must say the set looks nicer in black and white, the colour version everything looks horriblely put together
@avengedsevenfold979 I always thought that colour tv came out in the 1960's. Gilligan's Island was in colour from the second season, and had Dick Van Dyke gone one more season, it, too, would have been in colour. True, there were more TV shows in colour in the 1970's.
@monkeeman1966, I, too, loved the playing around with the credcits. I remember one episode when Oliver asked Lisa when something happened, and she said, "Right after the 'Written by's'!" It cracked me up!!
@avengedsevenfold979 Correction! All three television networks at the time, ABC, CBS, and NBC went full color for primetime in September of 1966. Well before the 1970's. Watch any show from this time period and you'll see I'm right: Mission Impossible, Star Trek, Green Acres, Time Tunnel, Lost in Space, Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, That Girl, Batman, etc. All of them, in color from 1966 on and some of these even before 1966!
@Tigermoon1950 Just as we get the leaders we deserve, we also get the TV shows we deserve. For me, TV IS my leader. Tori and Dean Cleanse Their House Of Bad Spirits.

@rofflemows2 still all the same ... it didn't become huge in homes untill late 80s early 90s bc i was born in 91 and i remember home videos from b4 my 2nd birthday of the tv in the background being color
avengedsevenfold979 10 months ago

In many ways TV got better over time, but some of the classics have never been improved upon and never should be. Green Acres is one of those.

@Tigermoon1950 Just as we get the leaders we deserve, we also get the TV shows we deserve. For me, TV IS my leader. Tori and Dean Cleanse Their House Of Bad Spirits.
