good interpretation... a bit rude on the articulation though, georgi keep in mind that you make the Eb trumpet sound like a Bb trumpet..... try being more delicate with it. its not ment to sound so rough. love the ending to the phrases.
Das Neruda Konzert ist für mich das schwächste Konzert aus der klassischen Epoche. Es hat keine Höhepunke. Die Interpreten haben haber es aber ganz gut gespielt.
These people who is klick Dislike , I think they dont know why they are put it...I could listening this and 2nd movement every day ..Great tone and performance...
@TheRedguazer Same... I ended up listening to this coz I'm trying to choose which peice off list A to play. I'm probably gunna go with this one, although I have the hyden from my grade 6..........
How did you choose?
And I agree he plays with alot of feeling. He properly unnderstands the music.
A lot of you are saying how badly interpreted this is, but you obviously don't understand that this concerto isn't supposed to be played with crazy dynamics! It's not romantic! He did a great job of playing the piece as it should be played.
To play Baroque music requires a sensitive mind and soul. This concert of Neruda is not technically difficult, many trumpet players can play all the notes very well. The problem is the interpretation. Few trumpet players have this sensitive soul. Maurice Andre loved this music, and the extraordinary results we can listen to them today. Mr. Penchev is a good trumpet player but he would deepen the study of Baroque music. It is not a criticism but a suggestion.

I'm not quite sure who has no idea: this interpretation really is dull, boring and with neither much elegance nore much emotionality and historical background knowledge (the piece is originally for horn and so every serious musician will do his best to produce a smoth and full sound i.e. not using an Eflat trumpet but a Bflat trumpet or - even better - a small french horn).
@trumpetopinion Do you actually play the trumpet, or do you just give your very poor opinion of it?
He plays it with great dynamics, clear attacks, and beautiful phrasing. How can you say that it was "dull, boring and with neither much elegance nor much emotionality"???
Now, I don't know if you are correct about it originally being played on a horn or not, but still, in the great scheme of things it's not not a huge deal as long as you play it well, and I think he did a fantastic job.
Hi Dude, please relax - I really played this concert several times and you can be sure I am serious about my comment. If you have a chance, listen to the recording of Ed Tarr - he uses a horn and does phantastic phrasing and ornamentation. This guy here - and sorry to be so strict - just plays the notes. Technically really solid but like so many trumpet players do it. He obviously could learn a lot by getting a lesson from Ed.
Sound better on a Bb trumpet and when you wanna play louder you dont have to sound "forced" like in the video ... but its live performance so its understandable =) Nice job
Agreed, he really is hammering... But the whole orchestra is also hammering right along with him. It all sounds very heavy, I think it should be more bouncy - but obviously they took another approach and there's nothing wrong with that.
Edward Tarr is the man, and just because his recordings aren't "perfect" doesn't mean they aren't great. Listen to some recordings from 100 years ago and you find that the notes didn't matter so much as the music. Maybe we've lost something along the way.
Actually it was written for the Corno di Caccia. An early form of the Trumpet which had a similarly conical mouthpiece to the horn and three finger-holes to aid intonation.
The French Horn is a valved horn.....this piece was written about 20 years before the keyed trumpet and nearly 40 years before the advent of valves.
i'm so stealing his ornamentation in the ascending line where he sticks a sixteenth note a whole step lower than the first 16th note around 3:40 very neato indeed.
I enjoyed this...personally I would play it slightly faster, so it becomes a bit more brilliant and elegant...I personally prefer a more fat and dark sound, but because its a trumpet with a silver finish he probably aims for the thinner more sparkling sound...Bu overall a very good performance.
I agree with the guy that talked about his phrases. He can clearly play technically. That does not make you a good musician. He plays too loud, his phrases need to be held out longer. On the other hand, his Cadenza is played very well.

In a sentence: right notes but not much music

And I'm sure the orchestra never said they were going to play on original instruments. To say there is no musicality is plainly wrong.

Oh, and yes I do :)

Man, he really hammers the articulation the whole way through. That kind of ruined it for me :/

You are perfectly right. He is a fifth-rate performer at most. Even Edward Tarrs very imperfect recording of the Neruda is worlds apart better.

Do you all know that Neruda's concerto is actually written for French Horn? ^^
But nearly nobody knows this because it's - I would say - impossible to play with it :P
