  • If you read Twist of the Wrist, Keith Code suggests the way to deal with a tank slapper is 1) loosen your grip 2) raise your COG by sitting up 3) don't shut off the throttle but reduce slightly. Personally I don't think I will ever tame my survival reactions to do the wrong thing.

  • I rate the guy at the end of the clip who blows past both bikes like it was nothing!

  • Can someone explain why the guy in this video went into a tank slap?

  • I had one on them on my bike test, as told to just carry on =O nice save tho =)

  • That was serious I had one really bad today...on the road with 2010 ZX6R. Front goes light over hill and bumps....I have turned my steering damper up.

Luckily I held on keeping the throttle slightly open more by luck than judgement. A split second longer I would have let go and let the bike throw me off but it settled down keeping a really tight grip. Glad have been doing alot of lifting.

Do not do over 100mph on bumpy roads unless you have a steering damper turned up high ive learnt.

  • another quickpoitn the fella with the camera fixated on you as he pretty much followed your line without a tank slapper thats not good for him although fixation happens to the best of us every now and again

  • @MaGicMik3z Yea, I think the camera guy did fixate on me. Perhaps because he was possibly preparing to pass me coming down the hill since you can tell he wanted to pass before the turn but couldn't. Or.... he just wanted to catch me on camera in case I crashed :P haha

  • nicely saved just before you would of been gras tracking your way round

  • Upvote so future viewers see this: skip to 1:00 for tankslapper

  • @b33p added in info box.

  • Nice save man!

  • I had my tank slap experience on the highway going about 80mph. I closed my eyes as I was about to hit the back of a car in the lane next to me, all of a sudden it corrected itself, so I opened my eyes and quickly moved out of the way. I spent about 30 mins on the side of the road in shock after.

  • @hockeyce1 fucking hell i bet you took up smoking after that experience unless you already do

  • @MaGicMik3z Nah motorcycles may kill you, smoking definitely will. I quit then bought a motorbike, my life expectancy is a whole lot better that way.

  • when that happens dude...your logic and thinking goes straight down the chute.

    nice save...

  • @NoobInaCan Oh I agree! The only thinking about was... "Awww man I just got this bike a month and a half ago..." Which was true too. It was a new bike.. Not my first bike though!

  • Glad yoru ok dude!

  • ya good one mate!

  • did you have a steering damper on mate?

  • Oh shit indeed. Good recovery man.

  • Nice video and very good luck. Same happened to me when passing truck and was cold and rain. almost shit in pants.

  • that looked HORRIBLE! glad you are ok. and you have a sweet bike.

  • wow fuck what a wobble!!! and you kept it together well done!

  • oh, 2009 zx6r i see... no stock damper?

  • It comes with a stock Ohlins Steering Damper, however, it was at the lowest/softest setting at the time. Now I know to turn it up for the track!

  • Nice save! What year/make/model bike and do you have a steering damper?

  • great save bro. have experienced one, damn scary!

  • Nice!!!!!!!!! scared me too ..............

  • Wow, scary! What did you do to save it? Or did it just work itself out?

  • No idea how I was saved.. It definitely worked itself out. I've asked other riders and have been told, that when this happens you should gas it hard to try to lift the front up (or at least to where the front gets slightly light) so that the oscillations can subside.

  • @jhu1986 I was northbound @ around 125 mph on Pleasanton-Sunol road and found out about my friend's bike being a little bent from where he'd dropped it. I don't know if it's "correct", but I stood on the rear brake until it quit slappin', @ around 70 mph. Then I pulled over and parked it for a few minutes. :)

  • damb that coulda ended badly. nice save

  • Damn, you lucked out not crashing. Good day

  • GREAT save bro...just watching that scared the crap out of me! Glad you had fun though... i need to make it out to the track
