  • i have the 17in macbook pro early 2011 and yeah the fan can get quite loud when I'm running lots of applications, but i use smcFanControl to decrease or increase the fan speed. With that app i normally have the fan speed to max tho to keep the mac cooler, plus i rather get the fan system thing replaced than a motherboard/harddrive/ram if those went bust.

  • @Its0That0Brown0Dude Oh nice. I've gotten many fan control app recommendations after uploading this video as well :)

  • My MacBook pro 13" 2009 was running 10.6.3 now it's running 10.7.3 and windows 7 ultimate. The fan makes so much noise after 2 or more hours doing nothing just sitting there. I cant take it anymore. I took it to the apple store and they said it normal. $100 visit down the toilet.

  • @techwasklie Hmm, that's interesting. Unfortunetly, I've never ran Boot Camp (Windows) on my Macbook before since I have a PC as well, so I don't think I'll be of much help. Sorry! Why did they charge you $100 though? Photo Booth wasn't working on my old Mac, so I brought it to the store and it didn't cost a dime for them to fix...then again, this was in 2010.

  • What did you do now?

  • @BuZhido100 Well, after uploading this video I learned that keeping it on a bed is not good, so I tried to put it on my desk or on the floor instead of my bed. Also shut it down every night and when not in use, and tried not to use so many programs and applications at once. Having a lot of programs open can speed up the fan. Hope that helps!

  • I found a video about how to remove dust from laptop fans. It's not for MacBook's specifically, but it shows the idea. Maybe someone can find one for Macs. I'm sure this is my problem and I'm going to give it a try!

Search YouTube for: How To Clean Dust From Your Laptop

  • My older silver MacBook 17" makes a horrible fan noise after using it for anything for awhile, and I notice it most when we're on the internet or listening to music. I read somewhere about removing / blowing / sucking the dust out of the laptop, but I can't remember exactly where or how you do this. Any ideas? CatherineTodd2 at gmail dot com

  • @CommentsSurvey Hmm, to be honest I've never attempted to go inside of a Macbook, but I'm sure if you Google or Youtube search it, you'll be able to find some ideas!

  • @shinjanaytor : I would be afraid to go inside and mess things up, but I will take it in to a repair shop. Thanks.

  • @CommentsSurvey No problem! Good luck getting your Mac fixed! I also would suggest taking it to the Apple store, if all else fails.

  • I couldn't hear your fan noise because MY MACBOOK'S fan is too freakin' loud.

  • @Dell0304 Hahaha, seriously so ironic that it's just hilarious!

  • @Dell0304 Maybe because yours is about 7 years old, hope this helps :)

  • @wescoolya 4, do your math ya dumbfuck :)

  • @Dell0304 i did, mid 2007 is when the white macbook that you have came out, so that means about 5 years and an eairlier version came out in 2006 but that one had a 80 gb hard drive so i doubt you have that one. Anyway not much of a dif if it was 7 years ither way because thats only 2 years apart and the unibody upgade of the one you have was made in late 2008/eairy 2009 without the clickers and the more rounded edges and improved processor.

  • i cant hear it over my mac noise

  • @wormhead4000 The irony of that sentence is just hilarious.

  • A forum might have been a better place to put this question... But, wescoolya is correct about the CPU. My MacBook Pro's fan only starts up when I'm using iMovie, but it runs Ableton Live 8 very quietly. Just check the processes running in the background, like anything running on the menu bar. Also, check out the iStat Pro widget. It'll give you everything you need to know about how your Mac is running.

  • @bazilmynazzle Yeah, maybe you're right. And I also realized that when using heavier programs such as iMovie make the fan speed up. But I'll check out iStat Pro. Thank you!

  • @bazilmynazzle Yeah, maybe you're right. And I also realized that when using heavier programs such as iMovie make the fan speed up. But I'll check out iStat Pro. Thank you!

  • its called the CPU ok? when the cpu gets hot it needs to get cooler and the cooler it needs to get the louder the fans are because they have to turn faster, if you use that fan control program you may ruin your mac and fry the cpu because the fans are that loud for a reason.

  • @wescoolya Yes, I've learned a lot more about computers since making this video. Thank you for your comment anyway, though!

  • @wescoolya : The fans are "that loud" when they are not working correctly. It's not normal.

  • Try the app called SMC Fan Control, it lets you control fan speed and lets you see the temperature of the drive.

  • @MrJake902 Awesome, I'll check it out. Thank you!

  • What programs/applications/games are you using on it? The heavier the process, the hotter the macbook pro will become, therefore requiring the fan to kick it, and I have to agree that the fan is pretty loud, but it's a lot quieter than the cooling pad I had for my previous windows laptop.

  • @MineKraftTK I don't play any games on my Macbook, only on my PC. But I am a heavy internet user on my Mac, and sometimes I edit videos and stuff like that, too. I've noticed the more that I do on it the heavier the fan becomes, as expected. But sometimes I barely will be using it and the fan kicks in. But it's gotten a lot better now! Thank you for your help!

  • shut down when not using and try not to use as often I am having the same problem.

  • @liketrains2000 Hmm, that's odd. You might just be having a problem with your fan. I recommend just going to the Apple Store and explaining your problem to them, because I think you have an internal problem with your fan.

  • @shinjanaytor what if I said I got it at best buy?

  • @liketrains2000 Yup! That's fine! It shouldn't matter where you bought it from, just set up an appointment on Apple's website and you're set!

  • @shinjanaytor OK thanks

  • @shinjanaytor I found out if you put a MacBook Pro in your lap with your legs spread apart the fan will slow down. I tried it and it worked!

  • @liketrains2000 Oh wow! Never heard of that before! Thanks for letting me know.

  • did you solve the problem? I am having similar issues

  • @BeanGamingLP Yes, I was able to solve them. I put the computer on the bed less often, turned off the computer when I wasn't using it, and other things like that.

  • @shinjanaytor Thank you! ;)

  • @BeanGamingLP No problem! Hope I was of assistance! :)

  • it does that when ur using the graphics card a lot, it helps if u keep the lower back of the computer (that's where the fan is) uncovered (like if u take it off the bed)

  • @computergeek123ism Lately I have been keeping it off the bed because other people have told me that as well. Didn't know that though about the back of the computer fan, so thanks!

  • i just got mine like 2 months ago and this is first time its making this much noise feels like a CAR AC just went off

  • @GOGADGETZ Yeah, I know what you mean. It makes me NOT want to use my computer, it gets that loud sometimes. Just don't use it too heavily I guess, especially when it makes loud noises. Make sure you turn it off whenever you're not using it, too :)

  • take it off the bed retard thats why its overheating thus loud fan

  • @SUPERSCAPER123 You do realize that like 10 other people said that in the comments already, right? I've already established that it's cause of the bed, so I don't put it on the bed anymore...

  • it will break on u if u dont hve it checked it looks lke the fan is dying

  • @ILOVEMEGHAN100 Yeah, it hasn't been doing that lately, but thank you anyways!

  • I just realized that I'm like the 100000th person to say that....sorry lol

  • @Dell0304 Hahaha, it's all good.

  • @shinjanaytor Hehe.

I just got my MacBook, and I too have a small complaint about the fan, it spins up and gets noisy sometimes, and other times its whisper quiet....weird...but it works great and I love it.

  • @Dell0304 Yeah Macbooks are nice, but I like PCs too. It's funny how your name is Dell and you use a Mac :D

  • @shinjanaytor Same here. And haha yeah, I know...I still like Dell tho

  • @Dell0304 I prefer HP personally, haha.

  • @shinjanaytor HP is good. Apple and Dell are the best tho IMO.

  • @Dell0304 Haha, well everyone is entitled to their opinions :D

  • @shinjanaytor

For a moment, it seemed as if both of you almost got a hard-on for each other.

  • It's because it's on a bed. Never put it on anything that isn't a hard surface.

  • First world problems.

  • Is because the cpu and gpu are getting very hot, if you are doing simple web browsing it should be quiet. And if are playing games doing hevy work it should be very loud siple as that!

  • @ps31871 Ah, I see. Thanks!

  • nice TOY you got there.

  • @Koroush51 Haha what toy??

  • it's normal for the fan to turn on to cool down to CPU and when you keep it on your bed that restricts airflow and the fans have to work twice as hard in order to keep the CPU and graphic cards cool. I like to use my Mac on my bed too so I bought a Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Stand to put it on. just so you know your computer gets slower when its over heated and its not good for the overall lifespan of the laptop...

  • @PersianSKA Yeah, I try not to keep it on my bed. Many comments said not to do that :) Thanks for the advice!

  • remove it from the bed thats why

  • @the1assad Yeah, someone previously said that so lately I've been trying not to do that. Thanks!

  • Your editing a video. With PCs the fan will speed up to full tilt to keep the Processor and Video card cool. You may also need to clean your heat sink.

  • @GmTruckCarLove Ah, I see. Thanks!

  • dont let it sit on fabric like your bed..def goto the apple store..get the istat widget to check your cpu temp..mine hits 194 degrees F..which is wrong so im bringing it in

  • @ChrisTylerBalcerak Oh, usually it's on my lap or if not in use on my bed or the floor :O Haha, thanks! Dang, 194 degrees must be burning hot! Mine definitely isn't as hot as that, but still fairly hot.

  • Well, I've had a similar problem, when it does that, shut the computer off and let it cool off, because that means the battery is over-heated, and the fan is cooling it down. If the problem persist, go to a Mac store and get it checked out. They might need to replace the battery or something. Because when that happened to me, my battery was completely fried, and wouldn't even accept a charge. So, if it keeps going, get it checked out at a mac store~

  • @DooplissShinigami Oh, wow! Didn't know that, thanks a ton! I think I just need to turn off my computer more often than what I usually do.

  • @DooplissShinigami Its not the battery its the processor and GPU. its not an issue it is just the fan cooling it off. when under heavy use a processor can exceed 175 degrees Fahrenheit.
