Seriously I don't understand why people have so many problems with this issue.
It is the humane thing to do.
I was glad for my grandmother when she finally put out of her misery. She had been put into a coma because she was in pain. But living like that is not living at all.
Ofcourse I was sad she died. But it was the best thing that could have been done for her sake.
And btw... I do think that a dcotr can refuse to do it out of his own objections. but bring in another doctor then.
is your brain stuck at 101? what a pathetic thing to say!
I have two life-limiting illnesses & I demand the right to legally ask a loved one to assist my death when I can no longer care for myself. That would be the greatest gift anyone could give me.But I do not wish for that loved one to face possible prosecution.Euthanasia MUST be legislated for!
you think the people who have to make the choice to end the suffering of a loved one's life enjoy there choice or that they even do it without hesitation. It's hard enough for these people without you fuck tards telling them that their murders because they wanted to end the life of there loved ones so they wouldn't suffer anymore, not too mention there are people like cancer patients who choice to end their lifes, they don't make these decisions lightly, show respect and honour their last wishes
People that disagree with it, obviously dont know the agonising death of someone who will die anyway, selfish, we should be able to choose, yes counselling should be a part of it, but if that is your final decision then it should be honoured.....
How I wish this was an option here US. The pain is unbareable; Stupid Doctors arrogont nurses, I swear I have watched them smile with glee whill i'm having an unbareable pain of chronic pancratitus.
Everybody keeps talking about "they have the right to to life, therefore their own death with dignity"... but that option could only be brought up if the ill person knows their likely death. Does anybody have any opinions on circumstances in which the ill person, for eg. an accident has caused their hospitalization - should euthanasia be permitted then, even w/o the person's say or will?
@OOVENFRESSH I'm not sure I understand your question. Do I think that people who have an accident rather than a terminal illness should be allowed to have euthanesia performed on them? If they are in pain and there is no way of curing them, then yes. Do I think euthanesia should be permitted against someone's will? No.
what is this about people's choice? My guess is that you all have some double standards there. You allow the government to put us under laws. For instance, we aren't allowed to murder. Should murder be our own personal choice? My guess is that you would end personal choice there...
so many never wished to die and are killed every single day of hunfer, accidents, diseases and WARS, innocent people....it looks liek some one else has the right to kill in this world and their reasons for killing children and humans in wars are alwasy the GOOD reason!! Come one, this is pure hipocrisy, people have the right to live an the righ to die, better with dignity and by their wishes tham by torture or negligence...which are the common deaths, in this so called developped world!
Its the dieing persons choice, if they want to end their pain and suffering then they should have the right to. End of story. Why would you want anybody to suffer in agony. That would make you sick in the head, and a sadomasochistic monster. Whats the first thing people do when an animal is dieing, suffering or in agony? they kill the animal, put it to sleep, but for humans, people want the humans to suffer!!!! WTF Kind of world do we live in?
Can you not see that if euthanasia becomes 'voluntary', this is only one step away from when it is made COMPULSORY. Once we embark upon that slippery slope, where will it all end? Back in 1990 we were lied to - 'embryo research will bring cures for diseases'. It never did. Life begins at conception i.e. when sperm and ovum fuse together to form a new, unique human life. This is a scientific fact. We refer to human embryos as 'human' because that's what they are - human.
No that is not caring that is giving up on them. Whatever happened to being with them supporting them is their time of need, being compassionate spending some time with them in their time of loneliness or is everyone to selfish and "busy" nowadays to really care! Are they just a burden on family and society. What about us when we were infants, were we not also a burden on our parents? What an ungrateful and perverse generation.
"giving up on them". Just because you see it that way, does not mean everyone does. Just because your twisted idea of caring is forcing the person to stay alive in agony and constant discomfort for some 0.00001% chance of a "miracle" occurring, doesn't mean everyone is as inhumane as you are. "ungrateful & perverse". Who's being ungrateful here? If they want to be subjected to euthanasia, LET THEM. Why should we be UNGRATEFUL by not allowing them that wish? ;P
The vast majority of nations all over the world see Euthanasia as government sanctioned Murder especially in the 1000 + unreported cases per year in the Netherlands killed without the patients permission and possibly against their will!!! Who gives the right for the "doctors" to decide who lives and who dies?
This is indeed a culture of death, where "doctors" peddling death as a cure to their ills and the weak and suffering being taken advantage of and pressured to ending their lives.
please give us a source. I am from the netherlands, but I've never heard of these "1000+ unreported cases per year" where patients are being killed witout permission and possibly against their will.
This is not a black and white issue. In my views ending someone's life is not morally right but I'm wondering whether my views would change should I be in the position of that kind of suffering.
As a society, we need to have a new respect for the act of dying and see the act as a positive thing for the individual and the only method to release the immortal soul.
Or have you heard this "fact" on Fox TV or from your local clergyman ?
My mother was terminal ill, asked for euthanasia and was very grateful to be able to die in a manner worthy of a human being. I am proud that the Netherlands has euthanasia laws; in that we are 50 years ahead of the USA.
I believe it should be legal. Its better than someone's family having to discover a loved ones body. At least with this, they can say good byes and I love yous.
If you look inward into this world for the answers, they are not there. Life has not been easy for me but I canot say that my life is any harder that somone elses. I started reading the Bible and fond that God has a plan for us and that we have a choice to make somtime in our life to seek the answers. God was there for me and I would ask that anyone thinking of killing them self, remember the tem commandments. Tho shalt not kill is there for a reason and how can we take any life, even our own.
it's easy quoting someone saying "killing is bad" and it's true. It's bad. But we all have times when we can kill, for instance if someone threatens ones family or simmilar occations and assisted suicide is no difference. My mom passed away over a year ago from a stroke and she said before that the she prefer death before being stuck in bed with no way of communicating. If she had survived what right do we have to keep her away from her clearly stated wish? Should I have to break a law?
The people who are doing the real helping are the orthodox doctors and nurses and hospice workers, the people visiting the sick in these places like Blessed Mother Tereasa of Calcutta, the people bringing Jesus to sick and dieing, the priest hearing the confessions and anointing them with holy oil and preparing these people to meet their Maker and helping to save souls. they are the real heros.
"real" helping. It just sounds like you're trying to say that the only ones who "help" people are medical practitioners and Samaritans or religious people. Do you dare deny that you're just trying to say that anyone who doesn't follow your religion isn't capable of being a "hero" in others' eyes? :)
All people are capable of being humble, charitable and compassionate, that is why the vast majority of people all over the world appose killing other human beings.
Please don't decide for me and the other advocates of euthanasia what to do and what not. If I'm dieing in terrible pain, the best help I can get is to be put out of my misery and not some "orthodox" nurse bringing me evangelical crap.
Keeping terminally ill people in endless pain is a form of torture.
Thank you for sharing your view. I want to better understand why some people are in favour of Physician assisted suicide/Euthanasia.
The emphasis on removing terrible pain and suffering is a valid one, that is why doctors use pain killers and other highly effective medication e.g. morphine. The intention here is the removal of pain NOT killing the patient.
Also dignified caring of the dieing is carried out all over the world by caring people not necessarily religious.
Furthermore Dutch people see a real life as something where you can do what you want, desire what you want, and think. They see living in a vegatative state or coma isn't a real life, but already dead. So instead, they choose to die with dignity. A dead where they can still say goodbye to their loved ones, instead of remaining silent forever.
Some may see it as selfish, but we see it different: see part 6.41-6.50. Life is a right, not an obligation.
When the death of a disabled infant will lead to the birth of another infant with better prospects of a happy life, the total amount of happiness will be greater if the disabled infant is killed. The loss of happy life for the first infant is outweighed by the gain of a happier life for the second. Therefore, if killing the haemophiliac infant has no adverse effect on others, it would, according to the total view, be right to kill him Peter Singer
We don't choose to live, so does that give others the right to tell us we can't choose to die?
Freedom of choice, through informed consent, to die should be the right of every citizen in the world. Why should we be forced to live in either a world we cannot tolerate, or ill health that makes life not worth living?
I would want to be killed painlessly rather than be a vegetable or totally paralysed!
That's one way of thinking. You can also put up the point that when you were in your mother's stomach, you were not able to tell her "Mother, I do not want to be born" which is the same concept as being in a coma as both render you unable to properly voice out your wishes.
This is a very good video. We are going through a global evolution of a lost freedom. In America, the dying are forced to suffer even if it means bring the courts into the matter.
Dr. Kevorkian helped my son die a dignified death, after a grueling battle with Lou Gehrig's syndrome. You can read about our ordeal in My Son, My Sorrow: The Tragic Tale of Dr. Kevorkian's Youngest Patient.
It is purely selfish to keep someone alive, because you love her/him, be he/she wants to die because the pain is unbearable. Respect the choice of the person who wants to step out or hang on.
there are certain regulations about when you can and can't end someones life... for instance when someone is having medical problems and he will get into a coma, his brain still works like normal at the time he decided to do euthanasia so nothing selfish about that.
Did you read Xentiro's post? Isn't it more selfish of me to keep someone alive that's in horrible pains and want to die, just because I think it's wrong with suicide? sure everyone can kill themselves, many people that get that help could have comitted suicide like "normal" people, but Why should they have to hang themselves in chacks or slit their wrists? Why not make it painless? And the lame, they can't do it and why should they have to suffer? Don't indonesia have the death penalty?
i did know that Xentiro's post, i think it is nice to read it. for me, everyone has the right to be alive. a person who commit suicide is person who has mental disorder. even though the life's history of this person was normal, but in that moment this person wants to commit suicide, this person already in the state of mental disorder. Yes, for sure Indonesia have it, but i never agree of it. any way...it a big issues in this world, n sometimes difficult to understand.
@xenitro as heart breaking and horrible as it sounds, I agree..... pain is horrible and no one deserves to live like this.
I think people are selfish with their loved ones and want them to be ok, but we need to understand that pain is no joke, and seeing a loved on suffering it's horrendous.
Quit imposing on those who at least want the option, do you people see how unfair it is? If you dont like it, then dont do it. Also, Im pretty sure the majority of countries in europe allow euthenasia.
We put our animals down humanely, why not us humans. I support the right to die. No Government or my next door neighbor has any right to my choice to die. The death rattle is not graceful. I want the option.
The death rattle is not a humane way to go esp when he or she is in misery
living in pain or needs total care.
It should be a right to die humanely like they do for animals esp when the
human wants it.
If the human does not want it and wants to be cared for with the death rattle
their are nursing homes they can be put in to be cared for till the death.

Good The more money we can take from the doctors and nurses is good
money saved from lining doctors pockets keeping the living dead alive.
Such as the cancer patients who want to die and end their pain and
disabled people who can't feed themselves, make transfers and don't
want to live in a nursing home.
Should have legal Euthanasia if they want it.
Double standard Animals get euthanasia but not humans.

We put our animals down humanely, why not us humans. I support the right to die.
No Government or my next door neighbor has any right to my choice to die. The
death rattle is not graceful. I want the option.
I agree with you.
They treat animals better then humans What a disgrace.
