i was there at this year mardi gras but didnt witness the shooting incident. But I did see alot of crime and violence in new orleans during my stay. But i did have fun watching the parade and get wasted.

Mardi = Tuesday. Gras = Fat.  Mardi Gras = Fat Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent, when Catholics and Anglicans are supposed to give up some indulgence like chocolate as a religious sacrifice. It's the wind-up to Easter.
