I liked AP for the most part, but it was rare for me to recognize Gia in her. I don't believe Gia would have been so nice to Emily, cancer or not, and her relationship with Zander seemed too easy. I hate that about GH and how they recast. They keep the same name and connections (though family connections are rarely acknowledged anyway) and change everything else. They did it with Gia, Emily, Zander, Lucky, Maxie and the Carlys (some to a greater extent than others) and I hate it.

i hate it, too, actually! really, really hate it. i guess gia was just the exception that proves the rule for me. lol she was always a little bit too hateful for me before the recast. though i did like marisa a lot. oh, well. maybe they'll bring gia back one day, in some form or another.

oh, darn. i just thought of other exceptions. lol constance towers is much better than liz taylor. took some getting used to but i do love john ingle as edward, too. i guess they didn't change either of the characters much in those examples though. (except for the middle edward - can't think of his name. he seemed different to me, and not in a good way.)

they changed aj so much it was painful to watch the last few years. billy warlock was still great though.

Well, I was speaking more to the recasting trend of the past 8-10 years when either Guza and/or JFP were involved. I never saw the original Helena or Edward or AJ (or Laura or Monica for that matter), so I really don't know how big the change was, although I've seen a few clips, it doesn't compare to having watched the original actor day in and day out and then getting a recast. I think I would have accepted JI's Edward, though. But Jed Allan ... yeesh.

with aj and edward it was that way to me. were laura and monica recasts? i guess the originals must have been on before i was born. only been watching since the 70's. ;)

Genie Francis joined the show when she was 14, so, given how young she was, it's kind of like she was always Laura, but Stacey Baldwin played Laura for the two prior years. Patsy Rahn played Monica for a year before Leslie Charleson took over, but in comparison to LC's now 30+ years on the show, LC seems like the only Monica as well. I forgot about Ned! Kurt McKinney played the role for the first three years. Maybe recasting is a lost art.
