  • does anyone know how matt made that scretching noise at 0:17

  • Synyster Gates is my freaking hero... but comparing him to Matt is wrong. Completely different styles of guitar playing. Matt is more musically and riff driven. Syn is all about technicality and basically just sexiness. I have no idea who's really better. But really, they're not even competing in the same category.

  • guys would you please stop comparing matt bellamy to god, i mean i he's great and all but he's no m........Synyster Gates

  • Cmon guys lets be honest here he IS A GUITAR GOD!!!

  • What song?

  • @Mattatasats55543 End of Plug In Baby live, they do it all the time now.

  • @BVBArmy95 Ok.

  • sounds like Van Halen

  • That was Awesomee!!!

  • :O :O :o

  • Sounds a bit like Eruption by Van Halen! Guess it's inspired! :D

  • People actually think Matt Bellamy is a great guitar player. wow that sucks

  • @sharaynishi I swear, you just brought a whole truck load of hate down on yo' face you fuck faced twat, you're just jealous he can do something you can't.

  • @1814Man oh no, trust me he just plain sucks

  • @sharaynishi Ignorance...at its finest

  • @sharaynishi I think you accidentally removed your hearing aids, mate. Best put them back on.

  • @nightlock3 no thanks, than i will only hear his horrible "ripping" even louder

  • @sharaynishi last time i checked hes the talented one making good music, and you're the one bitching infront of your computer.

  • @theFuckhole69 Sorry but, we weren't talking about who is making good music, we were talking about his guitar playing skills.

  • @sharaynishi If you are gonna try and say something like that, atleast bring proof to your piss weak argument. If everybody played guitar exactly the same style and level then music would be fucking boring and pointless, pull your head in and enjoy music.

  • @BonoSlayer1 I didn't say anything bad about his music. I am trying to say, that people are actually calling him a great guitarist, which clearly is as stupid as calling Kirk Hammett a virtuoso. And that is absolutely stupid.

  • @sharaynishi well ive never heard anyone call kirk a virtuoso. but he is still a fantastic and brilliant guitarist. as is matt. he does things that ive not heard anyone else do yet. just because he isnt the most technical player means nothing

  • @BonoSlayer1 I'm sorry. Brilliant? Listen to his material, for the past 30 years all we get is a Wah-Wah solo in the key of E Minor using the pentatonic scale.

  • @sharaynishi and he does it brilliantly. stop trying to shit on music everyone likes just because you have a tiny nitpick problem with it.

  • @BonoSlayer1 brilliantly plays the same shit over and over for thirty years

  • @sharaynishi Because you don't like music unless it's scrunched up and auto-tuned, you take one little AMAZING shred and say all he does is Wah-Wah solos. Looks a Plug In Baby, Hysteria etc.

  • @1814Man I'm sorry. I have been a Metallica fan, i listened to a lot of their material, but now all i like is Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning Master of Puppets. And yes, Kirk Hammett plays Wah-Wah solo's in the key of E Minor using the pentatonic scale ALL THE TIME. You don't believe me? Well listen, every fucking metallica solo is the same.

  • @BonoSlayer1 Don't get me wrong, Bellamy is extremely talented muse are one of my favourite bands but he's nothing special when it comes to his guitar skills. His talent comes from his unique voice and songwriting abilities in my opinion. Anyway, since when did instrument playing ability mean anything? Kurt Cobain used to write extremely simple compositions using mostly power chords and I'm pretty sure everyone loves Nirvana.

  • i hate it when he taps, hes much better than that

  • Fuck me that was some good pornage <3

  • 3/1O

  • Not so impressive or original, much like any other loud guitar solo introduction ripping off eruption. He's a respectable guitarist though, and quite a good pianist, as evidenced by the fact that he can play rachmaninoff's prelude in g. As impressive as any sort of rock and roll soloing may seem, it's really so much easier than any decent classical piece.

  • Thats the ending of Plug in baby (: saw him do the same thing at Reading Festival !

  • @spankthezebra The (part) Origin Of Symmetry set? I envy you =_=, though i have seen them twice already :P

  • @davemcq OOS set indeed. (: Gotta see em again !!

  • Cool, sounds great, just not that inherently difficult.

  • just to point out a tiny little thing... ITS CALLED SHREDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aside from that, good video :)

  • @metalgrungefan123 no, it isn't shredding is what steve vai/john petrucci/joe satriani et al do, playing neoclassical style with sweep picking. this is decent enough playing but its not amazing

  • @r1c0ch3t211 do we really need to go into the technicalities of shredding? at heart shredding or ripping or wanking or whatever you call it basically boils down to some guitarist showing off how fast he can play in various scales imo. but yea he isnt that good.

  • @metalradio9 Your trolling is quite unimpressive, sir/madam. I suggest you try elsewhere.

  • so if i did a shitty simple tapping pick and played some power chords i'd be as good as matt? brilliant song writer/musician, mislead public.

  • @metalradio9 yeah but you need to have a reason to be on that stage first, write something as great as muse and you get the right to mess around on the guitar on stage

  • Dude this guys is a tool Alexi Laiho will shred this puss into next year... STOP NOT WEARING PLEATHER PANTS YOU BASTARD!

  • @ALEXTHESOLIDFEW , I ment to say STOP WEARING PLEATHER PANTS YOU BASTARD! lol

  • @Greenjoeofkonoha Matt's Forte isnt really guitar, he is a much better musician as a whole. He isnt the best singer, he isn't the best guitarist, isnt hte best pianist nor songwriter but when you combine all of those you have one hell of a talented muthafucking musician

  • @Greenjoeofkonoha have you seen him play invincible?

  • @LewisTee08 it's really not that difficult. watch videos of paul gilbert/chuck schuldiner/tosin abasi, hell even the likes of van halen do much more complex stuff than invincible (note; complexity =/= how good something is, but when judging technical skill as a guitarist it is)

  • We'll just call matt ,eddie van halens brother in law

  • @koalajones88 You're arguing with an ally here, I like Radiohead and there's no reason to be so brash in your comment. I'm simply stating what people who don't like the band think of them, because I know plenty. I'm a lover of all genres of music and I'm not here to argue with you.

  • @koalajones88 I too like Radiohead, however most of my music buddies (and mainstream music) would call them hipster, indie garbage. It's all a matter of opinion.

  • @koalajones88 And what exactly do you call a well-written song?

  • How can people say he suck. He can play guitar pretty well and he's very good on the piano

  • Best guitarist of the 21st century, without a doubt, but, as much as I love him, he is not one of the best guitarists of all time :L Hendrix, Tom Morello, Slash, Jimmy Paige, Kirk Hammett, David Gilmour, Kim Thayil are better.

  • he's a pop star which is why he will never be a great guitarist, im sick of people telling me to look him up and that he's awesome i have yet to be impressed.

  • @jakesplosion111 fuck off, he is not a "pop star"

  • @IndianaJoel93 they got their biggest break on the twilight soundtrack if that doesn't make them pop stars i truly don't know what does nor do i care what does, and if that list is what you call the best guitarists of all time then you don't know a lot of good guitarists do some research outside of radio hype

  • @jakesplosion111 so by your comment im guessing that all you listen to is either justin beiber or dream theater and i dont give a fuck what you say but before you even say muse came from twilight i think you should know that muse has been around since 1998 in Europe and in 2006 they became huge in the US so mabye you should do some research and get outside of the radio hype before you go around being a dick

  • @FallemhainDoc did you really assume JB into my musical taste? after i just bashed matt for being a "pop star". if you check out my channel you'd realize im into blues, classical and heavy metal, and i play the guitar so it takes one to know one, and im well aware of how long muse has been around but they were only hugely famous when twilight came out. the comment section was engineered for my opinion as well as yours dont be so ass hurt

  • @jakesplosion111 Really? They were only hugely famous when twilight came out? I'm pretty sure they sold out Wembley over two nights in 2007, which was before the first Twilight film was released. I don't see many bands doing that when they're not hugely famous. That's not to consider the fact that they had various top 20 singles before that film. Also, if you listen to some of the album tracks, then you'll realise that they aren't the pop act that the singles might have told you they are.

  • @ThebigJBIG the argument got off topic with their album sales, fame etc. who GAF. my original point is he's no Beethoven on guitar by any stretch, some of the best guitarists you will see are just normal people, usually on youtube, teachers, people at local music stores, etc. that are far superior to our idols, some just dont want to see it. peace

  • @jakesplosion111 I'll admit, I didn't actually see that part. Yeah, he's an accomplished guitarist, but he's by no means one of the best around today.

  • @jakesplosion111 Well if you actually listen to Muse in depth, you will realise they are definitely NOT pop, and so what, just because someone is famous, that means they cant be considered as one of the greats? And Muse did not get their "biggest break" through Shitlight, before Twilight was even written they already had 3 Platinum albums and had headlined the biggest festivals in England and Europe and won countless awards, get a clue, pal.

  • definetly not his best guitar playing

  • @BenjaminLOfficial He's not terrible, But he's not very good either. What catches my attention about him is that he has good stage presence, and is a versatile musician capable of playing a decent guitar, a cool piano, and singing EXTREMELY well. Don't get me wrong though, I love muse to death. I just think the fans blow everything way out of proportion.

  • @loljonasfail I so agree with you he's pretty good on guitar but thats it to all the sycophantic Muse fans get a grip or have you not heard of Jimmy Page or Hendrix ,Slash .Ritchie Blackmore etc etc there are people that are way better than Matt deal with it and stop acting like he's the second coming or something and yes I am a Muse fan myself just a more realistic one

  • He somehow reminds me of Tim Roth..

  • I agree with neil...why dont u teach u peice of shit i bet u couldnt become a guitar god like matt i bet ur a puff who sits and learns some nursey rhymes on guitar

  • someone teach to him that using the middle finger tapping is easier

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder HAHA why dont you teach matt how to play the guitar then lol, hes a beast on the guitar

  • remember one thing he is the only guitar player in the band and he sings. So that is a very very difficult thing to do

  • Sounds like a Van Halen solo

  • Eddie did this quite long ago. I don't hear the genius, or the originality in it.

  • @BLUEBLOODRED13 why. The only troll comment on this video ive seen!

  • @poptart2345 Troll? Just voicing an honest opinion, from an honest musicians stand point. This shouldn't hurt your feelings. I don't hear the genius, or the originality in it. To each their own. Lol.

  • oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!

  • Muse or auditory orgasm

  • Muse or the most successful music since Beethoven

  • @gugusfr Yeah or not.

  • I love the argument in the comments that's essentially a lazy thesis on "The history of guitar techniques, tricks, and licks". You're all pretty off base. Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed were tapping and sweeping circa 1970, with more players performing these techniques in 1950 as a way to play jazz with emphasis on single notes melodies.

Before you guys start getting big dicks over 'who knows what', maybe try reading a book about it. Better yet, there's something called the "internet". Start there?

  • the title should be "Matt Bellamy from Muse rapin' his guitar"

  • STOP BEING GOD YOU BASTARD!

  • @PunksOfNature Ur wrong he isnt god!!!! People pray to god! God prays to Matthew Bellamy!!

  • @MikeAlessi33 Touché ;D

  • @PunksOfNature god=tom morello

  • @69atomheart haha maybe :L

  • I was there :')

  • radiohead

  • @andyperkins99 fuckinghead

  • play the guitar, MAKE IT LOOK LIKE PORN

  • Matt was trying to nail a minor while touching his G string.

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 hahahaha, took me a few seconds to understna dwhat you meant, and that made it even more funny

  • I can fart this bellamy a fucking noob

  • Why so many hate comments? Is it that important to defame Matt Bellamy?

  • MUSEGASM

  • You all can whine about how difficult or easy his finger tapping is, but when it comes down to it, none of you fools can write a song anywhere close to as good as Matt can. It's also not about what you play, it's about how you do it.

  • @drumguyrobc I agree that it's about how you do it. But I do believe there are quite a few musicians out in the world that can write a song, just as good as your buddy Matt. They just haven't been heard yet. Lol.

  • @BLUEBLOODRED13 Agreed! And I wish Matt was actually my buddy!

  • @drumguyrobc Technically shouldn't that be "it's not how you play, but what"?...

  • @lkmrn325 Yes.

  • okay everybody shut the fuck up, Matt is an amazing with a guitar, and although tapping may be easy, it's still sound good as fuck, and yeah, many musicians tap, and yeah, many aren't original, but I don't know many people like Matt that can scream at the top of his lungs, make it sound good, play an amazing riff, dance, be waving his guitar back and fourth, and still be drunk as FUCK, and make it sound good, tapping may not be impressive, but that sure as hell is.

  • This is just another Eruption lick used to wow the audience. Makes me wish to have been old enough to see Eddie play Eruption with Van Halen 1 hahaha

  • wemuseworld.comuf.com/

  • This man is a musical genius.

  • @NJKJB Children can tap notes like this, it's a very simple technique.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s You clearly don't get it. Whatever. I'd love to see you be as successful as he is. Clearly you know more about music than Matt Bellamy does... So.. Why is he famous, and not you? OHHH WAIT... I think I know..

  • @NJKJB You don't get it, simpleton. I'm more passionate about my profession of work, genius.

Secondly, I've played music for over 25 years, everyone I know who is a musician isn't impressed by tapping. It's original and creative playing that impresses real musicians.

He is famous for the same reason Lady Gaga is famous, tens of millions of clueless, stupid, and lazy gen-yers. Do you think a pilot knows more about planes than the engineers who design them, dimwit.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s I was never impressed by his tapping either, but I'd like to see Lady Gaga write something like Butterflies and Hurricanes or Map of the Problematique

  • @chroniclerofthe70s You're out of line here. If you're truly a musician who appreciates the great work of your (our) profession, you would be able to appreciate the song writing of Matt. If you truly are a musician, you'll probably understand this: no one ever said Adagio for Strings was technically difficult, but it is a masterpiece.

  • @drumguyrobc Masterpiece? LOL. Hogwash, composers during the 16th and 17century were composing similar pieces on piano only with more originality and creativity. If you want to know a modern masterpiece with respect to lyrics and composition listen to songs like Cygnus X1 and Xanadu by Rush.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Yes, Adagio for Strings is a masterpiece for its passion and ability to evoke emotion. In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything was original and creative because not much had been done yet. Also, with a screen name like yours, how did I know you were going to bring up Rush? Typical. Go troll somewhere else.

  • @drumguyrobc Masterpiece isn't defined by passion or by emotion, otherwise by your definition, Hitler's speeches at the Nuremberg rallies should be considered masterpieces. I used Rush's song Cygnus X1 as an example of intelligent, creative, and thought provoking lyrics which clearly fits the definition of masterpiece. Its typical of your generation to post sweeping grand statements without providing non-biased evidence in support of such statements.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Quite the contrary, I was raised on my father's music (your music). Rush is without a doubt a talented band, but has become the go-to band for middle aged men to exemplify technical prowess on YouTube. It's typical of your generation to assume that my generation knows nothing about music. You don't know me.

  • @drumguyrobc Fair enouph. I have played guitar, written music for over 25 years, and play blues, rock, country, and spanish flamengo. When I was young it was all about skill and technique, now however it's about finding original and creative ways to play. It's difficult for todays artists to be original after so many creative compositions have been written. I stated on other YT vids that Muse is a good band and better than most artists of today.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s We're on the same page now. I have played mainly drums for around 15 years and play any style I can get my hands on. I studied music with an emphasis in composition and have since been touring and performing. I agree it is very difficult to be original these days, it seems most artists resort to gimmicks to be noticed. It was a good era when skill was required to make it, but there is something to be said for generally, non-technical, good music; artists like Bob Marley maybe

  • Comment removed

  • @drumguyrobc I'm 17 and I think Rush is one of the best bands there will ever be. I'd say Dream Theater is the Rush of today though.

  • @MrXorHomer Agreed. I look at Dream Theater and probably Coheed & Cambria as having that high degree of musicianship that was found in the past, with the long, concept kind of songs.

  • this is pwoper.

    badass matt.

  • The New Born solo is better than this, but this is pretty good.

  • ...that wasn't as impressive as i was hoping it would be........

  • Matt is a great performer. He can sing amazingly, play the piano like he fuckin invented it and is a great songwriter, hands down. He is amazing at the guitar but there have been better.

  • @thewhitesteviewonder Nothing amazing about tapping notes on guitar. His written songs are average as well.

  • use the same title title. but show the new born solo instead :)

  • that wasnt that good

  • @downrodeo2112 but sounded awesome :D

  • @downrodeo2112 that was beutiful your just jeolous mattt has it all

  • @annabatarowicz I like to see him try to sing Blackout by Scorpions or Mother Father by Journey. He would fail miserably. I like to see him play La Villa Strangiato by Rush. Matt is only a slightly above average performer.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s WHO ARE YOU?! If you're not a fan, why are you still obsessing over this video? Stop replying to every good comment. You've been stuck to this video for over 3 months. Get over it. You seem to like other artists, so go watch their video and have convos with fans that agree with you and stop trying to piss of Muse fans. It's like you love to annoy people.. ?

  • @NJKJB I was the one who received a response after months of not commenting on this video. Secondly, I never said I disliked Muse as proven by some of my previous comments.

  • this riff is the best!!!!! i am learning it, just use the eruption tabs since it is similar to that :D

  • Matt Bellamy from Muse RAPING HIS GUITAR.

  • @Ceronimo96 if his guitar was a girl, it'd be DRY. You obviously don't understand the term "RAPING"

  • @Ceronimo96 Rape is a bad thing, you know that right? It suggests that Matthew is doing something to the guitar that the guitar didn't give consent to, and isn't enjoying. And trust me, there is no guitar out there that doesn't want Matthew Bellamy shredding, plucking and fingering at it's body.

  • @SamuelEllmer the guitar is screaming, also the guitar didnt give consent but it was still enjoying it :P

  • @Ceronimo96 It's not rape if the guitar enjoyed it ;) Which it should have done cuz if Matt Bellamy tapped me like that..... it's indescribable

  • @Ceronimo96

    haha xD

  • man all of you shut the fuck up bellamy is best no doubt

  • Matt is a good guitarist (one of my favorites of our time) but i didnt see him ripping on anything just tapping lol and i agree with this chrinicle dude of the 70s lol

  • Don't waste your time on him, guys. Silly misguided boy is just jealous of Matt, so the natural response is groundless criticism. We all know Matt is an amazing musician.

  • This concludes your life

  • Muse have become that amazing live that the majority of the crowd have to record them instead of going crazy :)

  • No soul

  • wow

  • I love muse, Matt is awesome! but /watch?v=ghJeWyzvyj4

  • @28thWonders that was crap

  • bpkkonegro- When YouTubers make comments about how talented Bellamy is they open themselves up to criticism. However, for those who want to see real talent I suggest looking up " The Ed Winter Group. "

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Open ourselves up to criticism? Real talent? How can you say that Bellamy isn't talented he is brilliant at piano and guitar!!!

  • @AmusingBlackouts Yes, Bellamy is talented. However the word brilliant implies some special creative ability far beyond the average. Modern day examples of brilliance are Jimi Hendrix, Uli Roth, and Chet Atkins to name a few. Past brilliant musicians most definitely include Mozart and Beethoven.

  • A very weak Eddie Van Halen tap. Eddie and others developed this technique in the 1970s. This poser should try playing something original. I suggest these clueless youtube fans look up some solos from Rush's guitarist from the 1970s.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s

    That comment was full-on 'derp'

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Because he TOTALLY claimed to have developed the technique.

And yes Alex Lifeson is talented, but - BIG SURPRISE HERE - just because Matt Bellamy doesn't sound like him doesn't mean he has no talent.

  • @ultrastupido Alex Lifeson is all over the fret board and creatively combines many techniques. Compared to most artists of today, Bellamy is talented. That's a good thing.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s stfu. i suggest you watch more muse videos. calling bellamy unoriginal is stupid. fool.

  • @josephXbliss I'm not speaking I'm communicating by typed comments, moron. Secondly, Bellamy is playing a weak rip off of Eddie Van Halen's Eruption. Only a stupid fool such as yourself would call this original without researching to see if it truly is original.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Everyone, except you, knows that Matt Bellamy plays popular riffs by other artists between songs.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Really? You're going to be technical? How about this? STOP THE FUCKING TYPING. How's that for you? Moron. Secondly, when did i say this was a original piece by Bellmay? Never. Who's the moron now? Learn how to read yeah?

  • @josephXbliss It's called grammar, fool. Technical writing is communicating using technical words with respect to a technical field or communicating technical topics to a layperson(s), moron. Your response that calling Bellamy unoriginal is stupid implies that Bellamy is original. Learn grammar, fool.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Wow dude, really? YOu sound like a idiot. This is youtube dude, and for your information, my major is english. I know grammar, you tool. So either talk about the bloody video, or just shut the hell up. I hate poeple like you, who think they're all smart. You must have a low sense of self worth.

  • @josephXbliss I'm not communicating through spoken speech, fool. Then perhaps you should reconsider your choice of major, genius. I'm not talking, idiot. You definitely should not major in Psychology since it is people with low self esteem that get defensive, fool.

Answer this question, english major. Why does the letter e come before the letter i when spelling the word, protein?

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Your or you're? Looks like someone else needs to study grammar as well. Hey! Can we be study buddies? You down dude?

  • @josephXbliss You're is not possessive, the word is being used as subject + verb. You are laughing. My English professor told our undergraduate class to keep our grammar book because it would come in handy far into the future. He was right.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s i don't understand why you keep saying that Bellamy is 'unoriginal' when, well, the artists you are talking about, and yes i listen to them aswell (except for Van Hallen) have been playing the same general thing for decades? you insult our generation and claim you are more intellectually superiour, hmph... now you know why YOUR generation has the reputation it has.

  • @uhaveachode1 Extraordinary claims by Muse fans requires extraordinary evidence to support them. There are plenty of YT commentors other than myself that have made far more pernicious comments.

Van Halen's ( not Van Hallen ) " Eruption " was an original instrumental with a strong emphasis on tapping.

My generation has the reputation of being independent and self reliant which is far more than can be said for your generation [ Generation whY ]. It's superior not superiour, genius.
