  • Gran bella voce!!!!!!!

  • The emotion Rosemary brought to "Tenderly" cannot be overlooked. It pulls at my heart. I learned of Rosemary's passing, sadly, just 19 days after my wife had died; and it only served to deepen the trough of depression that summer. So, I listened, as now, to Miss Clooney sweetly paint the 'picture' as "the evening breeze caressed the trees, tenderly". They just do not compare to Rosemary Clooney today and her unique stylings.

  • SHE IS DOWN IN HISTORT AS ONE OF THE BEST

  • There is something in her voice, of Barbara streisand. What a beautiful song!

  • @MISTY637 It is more like the other way around....

  • Rosemary Clooney. What a voice! I am forty and can identify her voice whenever I hear a random song on the radio. Thankful for her gift of song.

  • ジャズ・シンガーとして円熟した70年代以降勿論だけど、ロージーの若い頃は絶大だ、しっとり熱唱のクルーニー”テンダリー” #jazzm

  • I love how this is the theme song of Joan Crawford's character Jenny Stuart in "Torch Song" even though Crawford never really recorded it, but it's still a great movie and great song!

  • Not only a great singer and actress but a wonderful woman.... she had some real struggles in her life. But she was loved by all who knew her. Thanks for posting.

  • I fell in love with standards when I got sirius satellite radio and will never forget the night i was driving to my weekly voice lesson and heard her sing this -- i just love her voice! She is one of my favorite standard singers... there is just something special about the quality of her voice.. thank you for posting!

  • @blueskygal9 Thanks for posting. Her voice and phrasing had warmth and wistful quality that is hard to describe.

  • Can't find a karaoke or lyrics version so I am posting the lyrics here...

The evening breeze caressed the trees tenderly

The trembling trees embraced the breeze tenderly

Then you and I came wandering by

And lost in a sigh were we

The shore was kissed by sea and mist tenderly

I can't forget how two hearts met breathlessly

Your arms opened wide and closed me inside

You took my lips, you took my love so tenderly

  • generally i prefer ella fitzgerald, but his version of tenderly is great great great !!!! wonderful

  • i love finding great songs on youtube. i was looking for tenderly barney kessel and this popped up. sweet. never heard of her before today

  • Thank You all for Your hearts so Tenderly.............

  • ... and beside that mirs clooney could really SING, you do understand every word. what a pleasure to listen.... (also a singer of these songs) eva

  • my favorite songstress, had a way with melody no one could top.

  • I could never forget this song and Ms. Rosemary Clooney`s voice. Hers was the first singing voice I ever heard. I was a small boy then but oh how i loved the way she sang these melodies. Now in my 60s, I still pause to hear her voice. It makes me feel light inside. From The Philippines, June 06, 2011.

  • @Ricardobuhay Beautifully said, her incredibly supple sweet voice, and tender phrasing are truly magical and will forever be so, touching those who stop to listen. Thank you for posting.

  • I wish i lived back in this era where everything was pure and innocent.

  • This is my mom and dad's "song". They were married in 1950 and are still married today - 55 years later on May 7, 2011. My wife and I had this played at our wedding by a duo of flute and piano by the two young lady neighbors that my wife grew up with basically as sisters since she was a one and only child. Beautiful song.

  • Here's your favorite song, Mom ..... love you much.

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

  • i love this song , she is amazing!!

  • What a beautiful tribute to your mother. I know she would be so happy to know she raised a wonderful caring man.

  • @1freygirl Thank you for your kind and thoughtful post.

  • Beautiful woman with a wonderful voice - loved all her music.

  • Really really wonderful video, and a touching sweet ending.

    Thanks very much for uploading!

  • @Vebinz Thank you so much for your kind comment.

  • 17 and i seem to understand that this is the foundation to modern music. Artists get lazy and use a few chords but not many take the time actually compose full potential

  • This has to be the best wedding song ever.

  • @isaacrood Thank you!:o)

  • what a cute baby!!! thank you for posting!!

  • Rosie and Nat have cornered this song. Listen to her phrasing, breath control, diction, coloring and richness of tone--She's the 'female Sinatra'--yet her own singer. But like Frank, she FEELS the song and gives it her all without going overboard. Its all about balance, and Rosies' got it. She's really the best female vocalist of the 20th century and that's not just my opinion. This is a great song and great arrangement sung by a GREAT vocalist. (My partner adores her--as do I)

  • I could watch this ever day of my life. Rosemary Clooney is beautiful. Voice and looks.

  • I have yet to find a song that warms and stirs my heart, and inspires such passionate feelings in me, than this song.

Thank you, so much, for posting!

  • WHAT A WOMAN, A voice.....She is surely missed!

  • Lovely version. Billie Holiday also does a memorable version. Thanks very much.

  • When Rosemary was about to record this she became very nervous concerned how her version would compare to earlier ones by such as Sarah Vaughn. She confided that to her boss Mitch Miller, who told her to pretend that no one had ever done the song before and that she was the first to do so. Rosie later said that this advice from Mitch was the best advice she had ever gotten, and it allowed her to get on with the recording and to do her best.

  • OMG

  • nobody can sing it like her

    *sigh*

  • Comment removed

  • @JHJennings The theme music Jackie used for Reggie Van Gleason III was called Shangri-La. He used this song for his character The Poor Soul. And in early Honeymooners sketches he used the song Always by Irving Berlin.

  • I believe this may be a somewhat later recording, not Clooney's original (1952).

  • @egpetridis This is the original from the Capitol Masters...

  • they are beautiful - the song - the singer - the description

  • yes this song is one that brings back memories for me also. Thanks for posting yet another grt rosemary Clooney song. Its a song that when at fist i heard it as a child did only love the sound of it. As time passed the song and its story became more because of my understanding of the lyrics has grown over time and I do luv this song still.

  • Rosemary Clooney is off the charts...Very Lovely

  • she give me a sense of paradise, smooth, calm and RELAX! grazie Rosie...lov u!

  • This is a beautiful classic sung so perfectly well by Rosemary.

  • Ich bekomme immer Gaensehaut wenn ich dieses Lied hoere! Es kommen so viele Erinnerungen auf, so viel Erlebtes, all die Lieben Menschen die nicht mehr bei uns sind! Schoen und traurig!

  • @dearmalika I don't know German, but I Googled a translation and your words touched me. Thank you. Sad and beautiful indeed.

  • I really like this version. She lets the music speak for itself. So many singers drag out the "tenderly" lyric and ruin it's natural downward feeling.

  • Just magnificent! Beauty in such a telling song..........and she didn't have to scream like many of todays singers...........Very lovely and touching melody......A wonderful talent and deeply missed............

  • i love dis kinda music n im only 21....my friends laugh at me!!!!

  • i LOVE IT TOO,

    A HUG FROM DENMARK

  • So do my students. (I'm 27). :-/

  • im 18 and i like this song ;_;

  • @gergerkelly LOL. I'm 16 and I love this song and other classicals. *high five* :D

  • Rosemary Clooney was George Clooney's aunt.

  • Can hardly believe that she is George Clooneys mother!!! She had a handsome son but kind of wished she had a daughter in her own image after you listen to a few of her songs... wish she had a daughter to carry on this beautiful music.. :D this is music... I miss hearing this in the evenings... i remember when I was little there was astation on the radio dedicated to music from this era, and also remember watching theLawrence Welk show.. and so my age shines up in lights now lol :D

  • @PattiBailey She's not. She's (was) his Aunt. Such an amazing voice. :)

  • @PattiBailey It's cause she's George's aunt, not mother

  • aunt?

  • ROSEMARY.....THANK YOU......thank you...

  • she was amazing in white christmas.. i will love her forever because of that

  • So touching! It always brings be to tears, and Rosemary Clooney is such a beautiful singer!

  • was she involved with roger moore?,magic music thanks

  • @thomascow1 Not that i know of...

  • This was my one of my Mother's fav. songs--she always teared up when she heard it..I think it was because of someone she knew previously..I never asked though..Beautiful song!!

  • Sarah Vaughn had the first recording of this. Late 40s. Then Rosemary recorded it. Jack Lawrence, the Lyricist, liked her version best of all. So do I. I miss those days. As great as Rosemary was, she was just one of many great singers at that time. As noted, this was her signature song.

  • my nana always used to say that this her and my grandfather's song. I get tears in my eyes everytime I hear it

  • Sergio, this is so beautiful. Her version of this song has always been my favorite. I love all the great pictures you used. Just lovely! Thank you! - Ken Slavin

  • Thanks so much, Kevin, especially coming from someone like you, who understands and knows the significance of a great song.

  • This song is special for me because I remember my father. thank you.

  • Beautiful song , sung by one of our great American treasures- Rosie Clooney. I believe your mom is smiling when she thinks of you and this song!

  • I'm listening to this tonight in honor of my paternal grandmother. This is her favorite song. She is wasting away with cancer and my father just called by her bed side to say she isn't going to last the night.

  • @Shelbystarlight I'm so sorry God help you through goodbye

  • Just as good as the Nat "King" Cole version

  • I love her and I love this song! Thanks so much for posting it.

And the video is great! I really like those pics.

    HHW

  • Many thanks for such a nice post!

  • Lovely voice. Beautiful song. Thanks for sharing this wonderful music.

  • Thank you posting this gem. What a unique talent the late Ms Clooney was. This is my favorite female version of this classic.....with Nat King Cole's version being my favorite male performance. What a beautiful song....truly one of the most romantic ballads every written.

  • My Hot retro-blonde Rose!

  • Beautiful! No one has ever had a more pure voice than Rosemary. I love her!!!!

  • My father loves this song thank you for the post x

  • A comment on this caught my eye.

"The Golden Era" .... and it certainly was.

As a Baby Boomer / Rock N Roll kid, looking back, the talent from the 40s and early 50s is awesome.

    Wonderful song, wonderful singer.

No wonder I was in love with Rosemary, Patti Page and Doris Day when I was 5.

  • best vocal version of this song I've heard. best instrumental version of this song I've heard would be Chet Baker ofcourse! The 2 of them should have done this together!

  • This song was a favorite of Rosemary's. I have heard her say in many interviews that she begged Mitch Miller for permission to record this and he granted it as a payback for her agreeing to record so many Ross Bagdasarian novelties like Come On a My House, which she hated but made lots of money.

  • I'm Walter Gross's niece. It is indeed his centennial this year. But he had no middle name. Somebody found "Walter Lloyd Gross" on a list at the Library of Congress and assumed it was the musician. Uncle Walter used the middle initial "K" for his ASCAP membership and other business. The K stood for "Kalish," his birth father's name. His mother's second husband, Williams Gross, adopted him; hence the name Walter Gross. (Walter Lloyd Gross published two books on shorthand transcription!)

  • What an honor that you posted here, your uncle's melody is magnificent, melodies like this are truly rare.

  • On July 12, 1949 I was born. Today is my 60th birthday. My Mother told me that this was my parents "love song". Nobody sang it better than Rosemary Clooney. I am proud to know that in the beginning, this is how they felt about one another. I am comforted by this beautiful song and the knowledge that I was conceived so tenderly. Thank you for posting this song!!

  • could get lost in this...

  • Absolutely love this song.

  • thanks for posting boopkid.

  • Thanx my friend SERGIUS for this excellent slide show with a fantastic americana standard sung by the one and only Rosemary Clooney. I think George is very proud of his aunt. She was one of the most beautiful pean-ups of the golden era.

  • Thanks for your kind comment.

  • Please excuse the two typos. I meant to say, "a baby" boomer, and "type", not trype. It's past 4:00 a.m.!

  • From what I know of Rosemary Clooney, she was a good lady. I certainly think highly of her nephew, George. I am ababy boomer, and thus identify most with 60's music. Tunes like this however, remind of those early elementary school years. We have few singers that can sing this trype of song, and when was the last time you heard a new song that resembled such an earthy. romantic, and soothing tune?

  • I found this and was so touched that you made it in honor of your Mother. Since tomorrow is Mother's Day, Thank You for sharing a tender memory, for my Mom loved this song, too! God Bless You!!

  • What a sweet and lovely comment, blessings to you as well.

  • very good singer what a great looking little guy you have on your background re minds me of my grandson signed nana toni

  • Thanks! That's me at age 3, back in 1955.

  • I love this song! Many have sung this song but only Rosemary sings this song with so much passion! Thanks for posting this version with Rosemary!

  • She has the DEFINITIVE version. Thanks.

  • Lush....thank you for this.

  • This is just a remarkable standard. I have the honor of playing it in my woodwind chamber group. I fell in love with this song while playing it. I am very happy that my group stumbled upon this piece.

  • I am grateful that the New York Times website accompanied their Jack Lawrence obituary with the link to this enjoyable Rosemary Clooney YouTube. It illustrates their talent.

  • Wow! I'm honored. Thanks for letting me know. He wrote such beautiful lyrics.

  • RIP jack lawrence

  • This has long been a favorite of mine and noone has ever done it so well as Rosemary. She was simply one of the best female vocalists of her time, or any other for that matter. Thank you for sharing this.

  • You are so correct! Thanks for posting.

  • Yeah, Rosie sings this better than anyone. But can you honestly hear her singing anything and NOT think: This is the best version of this song. She was never, ever not in the moment or not in the lyric or not in the music; and we all can be thankful for her inimitable artistry. ..and her Killer looks - wowwie wow wow wow wow

  • Perfection at it best.

  • OK...Rosie's angelic vocalization tour de force has just sent a chill down my spine and has caused my specs to fog up. I have fallen in love with her impeccable and amazingly sensitive rendition all over again!

Many sincere thanks for the fine upload!

    Peace,

    Max

  • I could not agree with you more. Thank you!!

  • Very pretty. I was not familiar with this song, but it very sweet and romantic. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to ¨discover¨this gem.

  • So glad you discovered it! Thanks.:o)

  • She had the most beautiful voice ever. Sometines, when I'm alone in the house, I play all her CDs and spend the day just listening to her. Thank you for sharing this video. You really have an exquisite taste in music.

  • She could convey such emotion in her phrasing, and add to that a beautifully melodic voice-She was a truly amazing artist. Thank you for your kind words and support.

  • I've always enjoyed this song so much as an "instrumental"! I have to admit this is one of the few times I've heard lyrics to it! I'll have to see how many versions of it I have around in my Itunes!!

    Great job as usual!

  • Thanks. Nat King Cole does a great cover too.

  • Your mom was lucky to have had such a loving son...Sergio...and she is beautiful in the last frame...her love for her son showing through after all these years...hope she and my mom are smiling down...thank you so much...Wayne

  • Wayne,

Thank you so much for your very kind words...I am sure they are...Sergio

  • Her television show started with Rosemary in dark silhouette singing this song...sheer perfection...thank you soooo much Sergio for sharing this...Wayne

  • This is sooooo beautiful. It's one of my favorite all time songs. I think there's a Spanish version but for the life I can't think of it. I believe the 5 Latinos sung it - among others.

By the way -- the first two colors the video portion has are my all TIME favorite colors. I remember one time I told the editors that and for YEARS every book cover I had showcased those colors. I loved it. David not so much so. LOL!!

  • Aimee, So glad you liked it. I can't remember this song in Spanish, I'll have to try and find it. Thanks.
