I am guessing that he used a angle grinder to make the cuts then used a sander and many hours of elbow grease.

@josephknightcom Must had a router set up on the lathe to cut while the lathe turned the piece slowly. The reason why I guessed an angle grinder is because I have seen columns and legs done that way.
