I am from Liverpool and I have recently been to see "Blood Brothers" ( I actually Went to see it twice, I loved it so much) =D. I think that this is amazing for a high school play, the way this song is performed is quite like the poriginal soundtrack ( before bill kenwright took over the show). I will admit that sometimes it can be a bit fast. But its the one of the high points in the show! Gr8 job to the girl who played Mrs J, How she doesnt lsose her breather I dont know hahah! Im very glad i found this clip on you tube. Its a great example of how NOT to do this song... which i will show my cast so they know. The set pretty much the only really good thing. mickey and sammy were pretty weak acting wise especially his " yaay " haha almost comical how bad it was. and the cow part also shivers down my spine just thinking of it! The orchestra is suppose to repeat that part to fit YOU.

This is utter drivel. Love this musical and have seen many different casts perform it in London. This is shocking. It didn't make for a bright new day for me
yes it is a Canadian production. As none of the cast has ever seen the play, it is difficult to get the Liverpool accent down. For future productions could you be so lkind as reveal a source of how the accent should be. Why would the accent be so important, it is and English play and all are speaking English. Thanks Luv
Although I'm sure the people of Liverpool are aware of the accents, people outside of the UK would be hard pressed to know if an accent is from Liverpool, Ireland, or Scotland. The school has also done the Merchant of Venice and did not use Italian accents, without complaints.
Well there is a huge difference between all three accents mentioned so really it shouldn't be that hard. Plus a little research wouldn't do anyone any harm.

The amount of performances doesn't mean anything?... and she's not good.. I mean, as steph above mentioned she's the pillar to the whole show besides the Narrator so ye have at least to get her right.. and majority are saying it's shocking so afraid majority rules.

Hiya im playing Mrs.Johnstone in are highschool play :) well we do it...errm differently it's slower at the start and well we do it completly differntly and we do the acsents and everything but oh well good try
mickey keeps falling in our version, because it is "our" version, not the original...hence why they don't call it the original...the only thing thats the same is the lyrics and music!

merchant of venice does not rely on accents. shakespeare wrote it and had never been to italy!
willy russell who wrote blood brothers was from liverpool and thus the play is set there.
the plot does not rely on a liverpudlian accent but it certainly enhances it. some of the songs require the accent to rhyme and sound right.
just my opinion.
