Hate this movie, so it's been a while since I watched it, but I forgot how absolutely perfectly this scene was done. A true diamond in some very bad rough.
I don't know, perhaps I'm old and tired, but I always think that the chances of finding out what's really going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is say hang the sense of it and keep yourself busy. I'd much rather be happy than right any day.
A great philosophy to get you through this crazy world!
this is my favourite scene in the movie (tied, of course, with the unfortunate sperm whale) the graphics, and especially the acting, are amazing. Nighy's Slartibartfast was great, and of course Martin Freeman at his bewildered/overwhelmed best :)
Douglas Adam's books are leaps and bounds more intelligent, intricate and deeper on so many levels of thought, far beyond the movie can ever express buy far! Though I was happy for the recognition of him in the making of the film. I even read The Hitchhikers Guide likely more times than I realize in order to finish the text adventure game of the same on my C64. Brilliant mind, I like his thought process. Especially the Whale.
i've always wondered whose version of the purpose of life was better: Douglas Adams' or Kilgore Trout's. is it better for the ultimate question to be what do you get if you multiply 6x9, or be the by-product of a giant cockroaches shit. opinions?
That's not a planet, mate. That's the sculpture "Arthur Dent Throwing the Nutrimatic Cup". It's 15 miles high and it resides on the planet of Brontitall. (See or hear the 10th episode of the original radio series for the explanation.)
I almost cried when I saw the whole creation scene. It was just so wonderful and the music was perfect.

This movie is extremely underrated and I think it was fantastic job with a lot of it. Making a movie out of these books is very very hard.

Bill Nighy is a brilliant actor! He can play any character and he'll be great in the role.
RIP Douglas Adams-wonderful writer, however did he come up with Hitchhiker's guide?

At 4:14, you can see Douglas Adams' face on a planet, in the background on the left.

"N-no, my name is not important!" Say what you will about the film, but Bill Nighy nailed ol' Slartibartfast.
