Nice Video. I did a solo bicycle tour from Fairbanks to Florida in 2008 and The Alaskan Highway was absolutely amazing to experience. Started heading south on July 1 at 50 miles/day. It was well worth the challenge and effort for its beauty alone. Nearly every day I saw something that rivaled 'religious experience'. If you have the chance in your lifetime to visit Alaska and Western Canada, just go.
can you tell me what highway this is? i plan on trying do do an IBA run on up to Deadhorse from the lower 48...is this the Dalton? and if i was on this highway believe me i'd be doing all the passing...how rough is it up at Atigun pass could a regular street bike make it through or will i need a dual sport type bike? obviously it will be attempted during July Hopefully no rain! what is the normal range in temperature up there in July?
Im a motorcycle rider and was watching this just to see the condition of the highway and apologize for them...i can only think that they are fellow IBA (iron butt riders) that have probably road a thousand miles straight already and are getting fatigued or it is possible that something is wrong with the lead bikes clutch and cant slow down because he cant down shift.
We call those damn Sunday Drivers who get into the fast lane like idiots and just poke along without caring about other traffic.
They really need to pull those morons over for being clueless. If I was on the bikes and I knew a couple of big 20 wheelers was coming behind me I'd gladly let them pass.
Lol Tammy i know just what you go though.I work in a tourist ravaged area in the Yorkshire Dales in England and caravans and people looking at the sheep and cows in fields driving at 30mph on 60 roads!!!!!!!!!!!!That and farmers in tractors holding us up does yor head in.
It always looks like you're going faster on a video... I've posted some of me going down windy hills and I look at go holy crap.... it looks like I'm flying down that hill! Really I was doing about 55 km/h
Well speeding the video up x2 would make a lot of sense, lol. I guess you're right about the going faster on film, as I can believe that. What type of camera are you using, I like the picture that you get, it's really clear.
Canon is supposed to make nice cameras, I had a canon video camera once, but it wasn't that impressive, but I imagine that the new ones like you have are all digital sensors and such. I just bought a kodak M1033 camera and it's great. Takes good pictures, and shoots 720p HD videos, which look really nice.
I have the Nikon D40x, which is exactly like the XTi, and same here, I love it! It takes better pictures, has interchangable lenses, and is just overally 250% faster at taking pictures and starting up than the point and shoots. In my opinion, it is worth every extra penny!
Keep in mind that truckers do not own the road and have to respect everyone's safety limits i.e driving at a reasonable speed for the road conditions. When a rig hit's something at 120kph there is usually nothing left of it i.e. a moose, bison, small vehicle or a bike. Sorry guys, but slowing trucks down on the highway is not such a bad thing.
Sure its not.... give truckers some reason for more road rage.. good idea. Sorry, but slowing down trucks is a really bad idea. Ever tried to pass trucks that are side by side climbing a hill after they've both hit their governor?
When there is a lot of highway, why shouldn't the trucks go off and run away from the traffic? Just makes perfect sence to me. Uneducated 4 wheeler drivers usually cause their own issues.
Nicely done north60star !! F#%^*&^%$##^&ing tourists eh??!! Oh well seasons almost over...THANK GOD !!! Big M shared this with me. see ya on the road. matco dave
I am right there with you Sister!!! Grrrrrr!! I try to be extra courteous to Motorcycles but that was retarded!!! You drive in some awesome scenery, nothing at all like NYC!! :) I want to see some Moose!!!

This is done in August of '08? When I went through there it was mid-late June, never getting dark north of the BC/Yukon border.
