People want white toilet paper because they like to examine the shit on it, with the maximum contrast possible and that means white. Unbleached kraft pulp is naturally brown, like a grocery bag. It is hard to tell if you did a good job wiping, when the paper is about the same colour as the shit. Coloured toilet paper has been tried and it didn't sell. Some say that white is the only colour, worthy of the inside of their sweet cheeks, you know, only purity can touch my inner self. LOL

In Britain toilet paper is also available in many pale colours, especially blue, pink, green and peach (to match bathroom décor). Never in brown though, especially not the very dark brown that we must now call Sub-Saharan Brown.
We also don't have American's preferences for eggs. Ours are almost all brown. A pale Obamaesque beige. White eggs go to catering suppliers not supermarkets, the reverse of what happens in America - just one of those historical quirks of culture.
