  • I have to say that I have read all five books many times and yes they missed a lot of stuff but the movie still stands on its own. My only complaint is that I always pictured Marvin as more human sized. But Alan Rickman was spot on as the voice.

  • oh poor snape. you turned yourself into a robot.. thats why you so sad

  • Martin Freeman... God I love that man! :)

  • THEY MADE A MOVIE? Martin Freeman is Arthur?! Allen fucking Rickman is the voice of a clinically depressed robot?! COUNT ME IN.

  • Anybody read the books?

  • 62 people don't know where their towels are.

  • Oh man, is Stephen Fry amazing or what?

  • That Vogon poetry must've been brutal.

  • Lol @ Marvin "That does absolutely nothing for me"

  • because of Martin Freeman, i will watch it in year 2012

  • Martin Freeman is so brilliant! Love him as an actor, he's awesome in Sherlock

  • vvveeerrryyy clever guys

  • Mos Def!

  • 43

  • I'm reading this book, best book ever

  • best trailer ever made

  • I guess the Vogons don't like this movie very much.

  • Stupid Arthur. His soulmate is Fenchurch. It says so in And Another Thing.

  • @udqbpn Stupid udpbpn. Every version of the series is different so bickering about who's supposed to be with who is rather pointless.

  • First thing I notice: Marvin the Robot is voiced by Alan Rickman who plays Severus Snape

  • @SeaChick111 THANK YOU!!!

  • my name is marvin

  • 42

  • nariator* WIN !

  • @ubisezagreota Stephen Fry----Gordon with from "V for Vendetta" and also player Sherlock Holme's older brother in the "Game of Shadows"

  • Probably the worst book adaptation ever.

  • @Rachman1337 The book itself is an adaptation...

  • @videogamenostalgia

    Not a bad one.

  • @Rachman1337 True, but I wouldn't say this is necessarily bad, just not quite as good as the book and radio series. it had a lot of missteps, but also a lot of great ideas.

  • One of the best films

  • love it how he just runs us through whats in a trailer will still making this movie amazing watched (iv watched it now 34 times) and will continue to keep loving it post how many times you've seen it for fun.

  • its wierd seeing this now even though it was in 2005....martin freeman is so much better in sherlock

  • idiot movie...

  • I only laughed a few times, but I did think it was brilliant on some parts. I hated the singing dolphins, they reminded me of Flipper! He died in a car accident, but the sperm whale and potted flowers were funny as hell.

I wonder if I could be friends with it! Hello Ground!

    Oh no not again...

Marvin wasn't as funny as I thought he would be... *sigh*

  • what the... the music at the end was from men in black

  • Like if you're watching this in 2011!

  • @MsGummybear23

That's probably the worst attempt at thumbwhoring I've ever seen.

  • Hmmm, no one in the galaxy is going to pick up a jungle bat hitchhiker.

  • Anyone who thinks this is sci-fi is missing the point. It's a very deadpan observation of human culture. I think the movie missed that point as well. Loved the books... almost walked out of the movie.

  • I had to read this book for my English class... I didn't understand it at all.

  • I could totally do that deep voice .. mmh<3

  • I love you Hannah!!!

  • Worst movie ever... really sucked

  • @MunkJavel You want to see a horrible movie? Watch Skyline. This movie wasn't that bad.

  • @MunkJavel :( I Love this movie!

  • This is what Bilbo's quest was really like.

  • @doktorzoom Douglas Admans wrote the radio script, as well as the books. They're bloody funny.

  • Best trailer ever.

    Good old Snape.

  • cigarettes since childhood.

  • trailers also normally employ a deep voice that sounds like a 7 foot tall man, who has been smoking cigarettes since childhood lol

  • Martin Freeman. :D

  • The book? Pffft--listen to the BBC radio series first, like I did in 1979.

Why is that robot playing Pink Floyd?

  • same thing from south park where the boys have to save the planet from being destroyed because aliens are tired of watching it. only token is in it (mos def)

  • FTW! 1:01 voice of my favorite voice-over G-d, the late great Don LaFontaine. A man with a sense of humor as great as his work. I saw in an interview that after his famous GEICO ad he joked, "Whatever bit of privacy I had on the streets went away."

  • one should definitely read the book first........the book is not at all the stereotype science fiction writings....it carries a significant inspirational message.

  • @93debstar Arguably, Mostly Harmless destroys that inspirational message.

  • @Lamashtar and that's why, in my opinion at least, it was the worst book in the series. Adams is known for absurd satire, but a lot of Mostly Harmless comes off as mean-spirited and just isn't a lot of fun to read.

  • @JimmyColls I have to agree. The end of Mostly Harmless I just stared at the book and wondered what was the point of even reading it. Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul, indeed.

I do disagree with 93debstar's assumption that scifi doesn't have inspirational messages stereotypically, though. The very concept of alien life and space travel and mere continuation are inspirational to me.

  • @Lamashtar there are two strands of scifi, and it really depends on how optimistic or cynical the writer is towards scientific progress. Of course Orson Scott Card and Philip K. Dick stories aren't inspirational or hopeful, that's not what they're going for. Nevertheless, the existence of grim scifi doesn't negate the work of Asimov or even classic Roddenberry Star Trek - both of which are largely founded upon hopeful visions of the future as some Utopia that we should all be working towards.

  • oh marvin.

  • This movie is fucked up in many ways

  • why cant all of the trailers be like this

  • 0:49-0:56 is from the aliens soundtrack "bishops countdown" at 1:07 of the song

  • Stephen Fry and Don La Fontaine in one trailer? O_O I think I just came.

  • too much marvin. the joke went dry

  • thumbs up if u HATED THAT FREAKIN GAME THAT RUINED UR CHILDHOOD

  • @aquamichellle haha its awkies no one liked it ....

  • I think the trailer was better than the movie

  • Absolutely brilliant

  • Starting at 2:05... Isn't that the Men in Black theme?

  • Most brilliant movie trailer ever. Making fun of movie trailers. How genius is that?

  • love it that Stephen Fry explains what a trailer is all about

  • This movie is an abomination to the books. Nothing is even similar!

  • Grrrr great film

  • go martin!

  • Sam Rockwell has two Heads. That would explain the Special Effects in Moon...

  • Wow, this film sucked.

  • this is such a shitty shitty shitty movie......the BBC TV show had ,0000000003% of the budget hollywood had...and it kicked ass...and RESPECTED the BOOKS CANON....the BBC RADIO SHOW ALSO KICKED ASS! BUT THIS....just awful......

  • @harveydents - The radio show came first. Books came later :P

  • @Vieweracc99 Indeed....and stillzillion imes better than this clusterfuck

  • @Vieweracc99 regardless...still waaaaaay better than this shtie

  • @harveydents You... do realize the screenplay was co-written by Douglas Adams before he died, right? Many of the biggest deviations from the book were his idea. He wanted each new incarnation of his creation to be something fresh and new.

  • @celestialtriceratops ummm you DO REALIZE that about 90% of Adams screenplay was REWRITTEN....hIS wife said she didnt even recognize any of his screenplay after seeing this piece of shit

  • Thunbs up if you want a sequel.

  • love this film!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Bilbo Baggins...

  • The thing the movie missed most on was the wonderful dialogue in the book. I recommend watching the movie before reading the book. You'll enjoy it that way.

  • @mckemac1 yeah i didnt...and i fuckine hated it

  • when snape died at the end of harry potter, his soul went inside of marvin the clinically depressed robot... it makes COMPLETE sense =)

  • @bizzareo456 really? complete sense? voldemort kills him then he goes into a robot in space?

  • @bizzareo456 Spoiler alert!!!

  • @bizzareo456 Harry potter and sci-fi dont mix..... it only taints it 0_o

  • @bizzareo456 OMG YES!!! It makes perfect sense! LOL

  • @bizzareo456

    I couldn't agree more.

  • @bizzareo456 that snape remained clinically depressed for the rest of his robotically immortal life makes it terribly sad.

  • damn! what a trailer

  • 0:50 thats from Aliens movie ! James Cameron Aliens ! that song

  • The Trilogy of four containing five books including a short novel and a sequel=Brilliant

    TV show= Genius

    This trailer= FANTASTIC

    Movie= Excellent

  • I think this the same narrator for that cartoon network TV show "the clone wars" (but thats just me...)

  • anyone know what song is in 1:50?

  • is the narrator the guy who narrates "Little Big Planet"?

  • @Frostdrgn2 Yep, it is Stephen Fry

  • The movie is not like the book at all but a good movie nonetheless.

    + best trailer ever

  • 644,657 views and counting! I so wish I could enable revenue sharing on this! :-/

  • @CharlesP2009 yes i wish i could earn revenue from content that doesn't belong to me but life is a real bitch sometimes :-p

  • @CharlesP2009 It's not your property so that would be illegal. =P

  • @BobRyder Exactly.

  • @CharlesP2009 Thanks for the spoiler m8, Havn't seen the harry potter movie yet damnit :'(

  • Well the books are really awesome, I don't know about this though.

  • The best trailer ever :D

  • The movie and the Guide has a 99% difference.

Zaphod Beeblebrox is not the president.

  • Basically the entire film, right there

  • That's not how I pictured Ford at all. o_O

  • Best President of the Galaxy.EVAR!

  • Getting the complete book set in the next few days, can't wait :D

  • im reading the book. amazing.

  • @mckemac1 same here, im 50 pages in and already in love. havent seen the movie yet though, this looks this pretty damn sick

  • *sips tea*

  • im reading the book now but hows the film?

    p.s the book is amazing

  • @FATWalkthroughs

films very good but you shouldn't read the book first the only thing that can top the book are the podcasts

  • Been with the work of Douglas Adams for some time - writing, television, radio, lecture, and now this film adaptation. They did just fine. The humor (veddy English), the values of Adams, visual nods to earlier adaptation, great characterization for modern audience,... spot on. Director Jennings seems to have studied work of Terry Gilliam as a good student. While the film is best for readers of The Guide 'Trilogy' (deluge of information), I do so hope it catches more thinking people.

  • Once i finish to read all the books, i'll watch this.

  • I love the theme song.

  • Finished the book now ;D

  • LOL

  • it was an okay film.

yeah, the book was better but that's the case a lot of the time. there's no need to be an asshole about it. really a lot of the time there's no need to be an asshole about anything, but some people are assholes and that is what they do

  • @itimii ZARK OFF AND GET A LIFE!

  • @GothSeiDank VOGON! FOR BELGIUM'S SAKE IT IS VOGON!

  • Where is the Ford, Zaphod, Arthur and Marvin we all know and love?

I can tell you where.... NOT HERE! READ THE BOOK SUCKERS!

  • @20meerkat I thought they portrayed Arthur quite well. Zaphod's actor would of been brilliant if he REALLY had two heads.

  • I just bought the book at Barnes & Noble!

  • Best thin gis that most trailers actually work this way ;) Everytime I hear the "7ft tall man" and the rock music part I remember this trailer.

  • im reading the book right now on my kindle! it is awesome so far cant wait to finish it i love how it gives a new perception on the world and its meaninglessness haha. and the sarcasm :)

  • Read all the books five times

  • D: My dad is 7ft and smokes cigarettes......... he does sound like a movie trailer narrator....Sweet >:D

  • ....Wicked.

  • Hhahahaha, definitely, best trailer. I love Stephen Fry. I would quote some now if I could remember it properly. Deep, manly voices, dolphins, loud music, explosions- exactly.

  • whats the name of that robot

  • @3DUBz5 Marvin. He's manically depressed.

  • guys, so i heard about all this "42" stuff and i think about either watching the movie or reading the book. which one do you recommend more? please answer this

  • @Cannabissed If you can find them, the BBC radio broadcasts were the best. Otherwise the book.

  • @hyperbolaisagraph ok thank you very much :D

  • @Cannabissed

Read the book first definitly =D

  • @Cannabissed Well, in Argentina, Adams' books weren't released (they were translated in the 80s but never published here) so all the argentinian people who knew about THGTTG was because of the film. Just AFTER the film was released, they published the books (and only the first three of them...). And I enjoyed the books even more, because now every character has a face =D

  • @Cannabissed The film sucks. Read the book.

  • @gisele43

I thought the film was alright actually.

  • lol this is the funniest trailer ive ever seen

  • awesome

  • this is a tutorial

  • How ironic that itwas also 8 42...

  • A very good movie. Quite confusing but good.

  • this was pretty good, but the BBC version was better

Mos Def was a terrible miscast, nearly ruined the film for me...wouldn't of been so bad if you he would've at least acted XD

Still Sam Rockwell is the man, I seriously recommend "moon"

  • awesome trailer awesome movie. Those of you who do not like it need to be checked by a doctor.

  • EPIC

  • I really wanted to see this when it came out. My family didn't have a lot of extra money for movies, but I was so happy when we saw this! The movie made no sense and SUCKED! IT was the worse movie I've ever watched.

  • @Bobbysayhi Some movies aren't meant to have a conventional plotline or theme. You just have to keep an open mind all you'll love this movie, trust me!

  • awesome

  • worst film ive ever seen

  • This is a very bad movie.

  • 42th favorite

  • HELP!!!! WHATS THE MOVIE WHERE SOME PEOPLE GET STRANDED ON ANOTHER UNIVERSE IN A DESERT AND FIND AN ALIEN AND TIES TO TEACH HIM HOW TO SAY THEIR NAME BUT THE ALIEN JUST TOUCHER HER BOOBS LOL ITS A COMEDY PLZ HELP

  • @shariar1995 - 42.

  • Is that Stephen fry in the background? ^_^ Looking forward to seeing this movie, it looks good!

  • love the book, have to see the movie! =D

  • I just got a whole compilation book of all 5 HGTTGs. Does the movie cover all 5 including the extra 6th or does it only cover the first. Its a hilarious book so far and after I'm done, I want to see the movie.

  • @KidAuthorFilms It only covers the first. I recommend reading the book first. I love the books but they are not the kind that can easily translate to the cinematic medium. Most of the humor is missing and the movie came out merely average-ish (for a fan). People who have not read the book may not understand what all the fuss is about.

  • It's Watson!

  • Why?

    Why?

  • I don't see the hype in this movie.

  • "That does absolutely nothing for me..." Best trailer Eva.

  • best trailer for comedy ever.

    made me lol nicely

  • This guy does the voice for Little Big Planet...

Sorry, that was pretty random. Still, I decided to look this up since we're reading the book in my language arts class, and it's pretty interesting so far. ^^

  • @14DemonicAngel14 This guy is Stephen Fry. Somehow, the word 'guy' to describe him seems so unbefitting.

  • @CherrySprings Stephen's just this guy, you know?

  • @CherrySprings 'Chap' seems more fitting for someone like Stephen Fry.

  • @CherrySprings Gentleman Seems more fitting

  • @CherrySprings More like, "manliest being to grace the universe" I think that would be more appropriate.

  • THE WORST MOVIE EVER MADE! BAR NONE! FORD DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A SUB-ETHA SENCE-O-MATIC!

  • @20meerkat thats harsh mate its amazing the actually even managed to portray the bloody stroy in the first place its so complicated but it was funny entertaining and well made.
