@buffenbison Around 4:30 he creeps in with some mate. Its on his Wikipedia page at the bottom which songs he has wrote for other bands sung backing in etc.
@fortheloveoftunes I have lived in Texas most of my life and when I first heard this album during class(it had radio play too) at the age of 16 I skipped next period to go get it. I haven't done any research, but I suspect #15 is modest for the UK....not that I've been.
One of the best bits of this song is simply the instrumental parts e.g. the introduction up to 0.35, low down and moody like a walk through some 60s concrete jungle, a Brutalist Pink Floyd. And between 2.18-2.28 they sound like an American funk/ jam band in the style of the Spin Doctors (listen to Pocketful of Kryptonite to see what I mean). Some of the lesser known tracks - Neon Wilderness, Velvet Morning and Come On are some of my favourites.
i must be going insane , i called the doctor so he can releave my pain ,hes got a little pill for me , just a little luxury ......to help me through my dAAYYYY ;)
The hidden track at the end traumatized me as a child. I used to run away from the stereo and cover my ears when this song came on. It still freaks me out.
@brieflycake Yeah, but they probably mean that after this all the good Britpop ended, I admit that I don't think Oasis's music got any better after the 90's
@zreidsnider i can see what you mean. I guess britpop as a movement did end hear. But i beg to differ on the subject of Oasis's music after the 90's. Everyone to their own i guess.
as did Blur, Shed 7, Suede, Elastica, Ocean Colour Scene, Weller, another Verve album. Actually most of them are still touring regularly and still releasing music.
best song on the album..'.urban hymns' was awesome, and it was a reunion album just like "fourth"... I remember how excited I was when they got back together and when I first listened to it I was kinda thrown a bit...I loved the "band" songs -"rolling people", "catching the butterfly``, and especially this one more than the Richard songs, and still do... but the Richard songs eventually grew on me. It really was an Ashcroft solo album with a few Verve songs thrown in here and there though.
Simply wonderful. Strangely forgotten track. All i Know is that i had written it I would be proud until my death. Fantastically inventive and tuneful. Masterpiece.
I must be going insane I called the Doctor just so he could relieve my pain he got a little pill for me just a little luxury get me through the day.... I don't know how to describe the guitar licks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im a bit peeved tht the enemy copied this song in the form of "elephant song" but i suppose the verve would be flattered that they wanna be them a bit!...swings and roundabouts..
sorry but what are you smoking? sick of people saying the enemy copy shit. The elephant song is great and so is this song but it does not sound like the enemy have copied at all. There is the odd tiny similarity but really nothing to acuse the enemy of copying. Just stop complaining
Ever sat up about 3 in the morning, after a raucous night, a few good heads back at yer house, a few closing beers and a couple of jazz woodbines whilst pumping this out on the stereo? It works.
Anybody who likes this has got to watch the live version of it in Detroit, it's easy to find and there are few bands who've ever reached a level like this, it's crazy! Song makes me feel like I could smash bricks with my head...
I love this song much much much more than its popularity/ stature...
It's a luscious mix of rock n roll, psychedelia and wordings. It's gotto be one of my favorite songs of all time. I can't describe how I used to feel playing it while I was half asleep.
