Best band in world-Whatever the beat of songs the message was same. Stay Free. Another 2 albums of eg Janie Jones etc they wouldnt have organiclly grew the way they did. Thats why we listen today their fucking best band in last 30 years if not 100.
dog ends in the rain...we were just kids, sitting in a bus shelter fighting over ciggies, spitting... wish i was back there sometimes...didnt care about anything...except the clash
If I'd been an original Clash fan from the 70's i probably would have hated everything from London Calling onwards and regarded it as a bit of a sell out.as it is,i got into them in the early 80's and love everything they did and in particular think that Combat Rock sounds amazingly fresh to this day!
@seerauberjohnny Don't agree there mate. I was a fan from the 70's and I think we kind of evolved and matured with the group. The anger of the early punk scene set the scene and the amazing thing was that the Clash never lost it. There were those that stayed loyal to the punk look etc but they were never really solid Clash fans - they were more into bands like The Damned, Subway Sect etc.
@calligh That's good to hear mate,I knew a lot of older punks that were into the Clash from day one but dissed them around the time of L.C.I could be wrong, after all I've never loved a band as much as I did the Clash, and those other fans could have been as you suggest more into punk in general. Most of the punks I knew eventually painted themselves into a corner with bands like the Exploited,G.B.H etc just for the sake of maintaining their outsider status.
@Doyubi That's because you're a narrow minded cunt who thinks it's cool to just like the early stuff. Sure, the first two albums define the Clash, but then they took punk to the world. Arguably one of the most influential rock bands of all time. You should get a listen to the " From here to eternity " live album. The later " London calling " and " Sandanista " stuff easily stand up to the earlier punk stuff.
The cover represents the rising Chinese watching the vultures picking the bones of the Western banking system...and this was out in 1978.. I think the Clash new more than they let on!
@rankinroger1 The banking system? I'd think it was more of a brief for socialism in general as the successor to capitalism. A highly idealistic or a highly symbolic image, given the way China really was in 1978, but I still think that's what they were driving at.
Is that cover Colombia's flag upside down?

I actually only love the first album, and hate their very last. Some of the music in between is just good.
