She has a great voice, sings beautifully and effortlessly and is in the best tradition of Broadway's Leading Lady Singers!

She performed at Stephen Sondheim's 80th Birthday Celebration on PBS and was magnificent! She is now one of my favorite singers/performers!!!

Ella Fitzgerald's version is 7 minutes long - I believe it includes all the lyrics.

As gorgeously melodic as Fitzgerald's version is, Rosemary Clooney's late period recording is the definitive version to me.

@jemb2000 Beside the mere fact that is is Ella, what makes her version the tour de force it is is the piano work accompanying her. It is NEVER the same in any verse.

There are MANY different verses to this song. I don't think I've ever heard the same combination of them twice! Marin's performance of this song is my absolute favorite. The orchestrations are gorgeous, too.

there are a lot of different versions to the lyrics of this song ... I guess they were "cleaned up" to various degrees depending on the production

I saw a production in Chicago (Goodman) that included a stanza about "my chastity belt is unzipped again" which I've never seen again ... I guess they usually substitute tamer lyrics or delete lines altogether
