well you can make that argument that it is a hassle to make anything instead of buying it. but some people actually like to cook, not just to eat it. personally, i wish all my food was made by someone else, but i can definitely understand the hobby aspect of it. that being said, kimchi is one of the most difficult and pain in the ass thing to make even though a batch can last you an entire winter if stored properly. its harder to make especially when everybody has different recipes!

i dont want to prove you wrong, but if you know about korean food you should know that kimchi means pickled cabbage (or pickled vegetable), as in fermented. if you just mix cabbage with red pepper powder and you eat it straight away its not really kimchi, and it doesnt taste kimchi as well. not to mention that once the vegetable is pickled it becomes even healthier
