@stralight321 Hi there! We got our Discolite from ebay from Australia. Your best bet would be Ebay if you would like one. They are at a premium and going up in price everyday because a lot of them are in poor condition after 23 years! Expect to pay quite a premium for one in Mint condition such as ours. Hi there! The boombox is a Dynasty Discolite. I think it was made in the USA by a company called Skitronic in 1987. :)

thanx for the info, pretty usefull, although i read somwhere they introduced the Discolite in 1986. How loud is it, i mean compared to some moderen Hi-Fi stereos ? because i got some money, and i wonder if it's best to buy an vintage 80s boombox or go moderen. But i prefer old school though

The main thing though, is that it lacks Bass.

I like the old type Boomboxes! :)

I would go for a Sharp GF 777 which I think the Discolite was moulded on!

They re released the LASONIC and replaced the tape decks with an Ipod docking station! I think they should re release the DISCOLITE with the same kind of thing and add a digital tuner! How cool would that be! Maybe we should start a bring back the discolite campaign! *LOL* :)

That would be great but I think the problem would be that there's no company like sharp or lasonic that makes these exclusively. There's Dynasty, Breakdancer, Cougar, Diamond, Skitronic and Vela. It would be a dream come true though!

We missed out on quite a few auctions until this one came along and we had to have it!!!

If you want to get hold of one, your best bet is to watch ebay and use tags such as DISCOLITE. DYNASTY BOOMBOX. MADONNA BOOMBOX.

It took us three years to track this one down in such great condition!

They were going for a resonable price before they were used in Madonnas videos, then they sky rocketed!

They also got snapped up very quickly and thats why they are so rare nowadays :)

Does the unit have line in so you can connect a CD player? can you turn off the lights? What kind of batteries does it use? How easy would it be to replace the globes if they blow out? I want one of these.

Hi there! 1)Yes it has a line in so we hook up our MP3 player really easily. 2)You can have the lights on or off. 3)It takes 10 'c' batteries we believe and 4) The lights are actually bulbs so can be replaced. Hope this helps : )
