Let me guess... incisus, boesemani, lacustris, praecox and what looks like an australis from either Goyder River or Wonga Creek. How did I do? hahah. Mate awesome fishies. Love the setup.
nice tank... I am want to learn more about Rainbow fish. I really like them but want to learn about them BEFORE I purchase them. Can you recommend any sites or books? I have an existing 46 gallon bowfront that is ready for some new fish. Thanks.
@Octobersky1770 Hi Mate, I can recommend some sites for you. If you google Home of the Rainbowfish you will find all the information you want. It is done by arguably the worlds best rainbowfish authors. Also you can visit the Australian and New Guinea Fishes Association website. Steve Parish published a book by Gunther Schmida on Australian Native Fishes which talks about rainbows and blue-eyes. Cheers
Ok so I am jealous of your tank for now but I am working on mine. just sucks I have to order most of my fish online. If a fish tank was something that could be stolen man I would steal yours. That's compliment on how much I like your tank.
@blownable yes, they can interbreed, but will produce hybrids who can't reproduce themselves. Sometimes commercial breeders sell them as rare and precious fish, but you will be disappointed when you find out, 'cause they don't live long usually..For the purity of the races sake, don't interbreed and destroy 'm when it happens!!
I do disapprove all those variants.. Don't you feel sorry for blown-up goldfish, unable to swim normally, not to mention when they keep 'm in a bowl (of it's own pee)?
I detest all fancy forms of goldfish, or at least their breeders, as their digestive track is easily damaged without proper foods. But when you look closely at them, you'll agree that some forms of balloons are not THAT bad. Take the balloon ram, for example. Though it is disfigured, it isn't such that it hinders movement, or feeding capabilities. check it out.
@erboblex I agree. I don't believe in unnatural hybridisation. Given the rarity of some fish in particular rainbowfish it is important to maintain pure bloodlines. Never cross the I say. Some of us work hard to maintain these bloodlines and then to walk into a shop and see an incisus crossed with a boesemani is just heart breaking. Cheers
Great tank.... What size is it? Looks like you have a lot of fish in there; lots of activity. That's what I would like my tank to look like, but I worry about bioload. Wonderful collection of rainbowfish.., They look awesome together with all their different colours. I also enjoyed the song and how it fit with the moment. Great job!
Which one is the half yellow, half blue? I have some Boesemani but they're not full grown yet and they tend to brighten and darken their colors. If those are in fact Boesemani, they are BEAUTIFUL! :)
brilliant tank, it looks fantastic! just one thing, the kuhlie loach would be much happier if you kept it in a small school, say 4-6 or more. love the rainbows :)
Beautiful tank and fish. I'm thinking about Rainbows. Wanted a peaceful colorful option over Cichlids.

Can two different rainbow species like the neon and boosemani for example interbreed?

So you are also against Flowerhorns and red parrots, not to mention the many hybrids of synodontis periodically on offer at shops?

Yep!

And what about the variants. Like albino, long finned, balloon, golden etc?

What are the blue with a stripe through them? What do you do to bring out the blue? What ratio of female to male is best for rainbow fish?
