  • I am just happy that they had Marcello sing in the telecast because the other tenor who also sang with her in this production pretty much sucked. Pat is FIERCE. I love every minute of her

  • Agree with greenstboy. Saw the hd telecast today too. We were blown away by Racette but also by the most stunning production. Bravo Met!

  • Just had the good fortune to see Racette in the HD telecast of Madame Butterfly. Excellent voice but her acting was simply superb. These live telecast are wonderful in that they give us glorious close-ups that arguably make the experience better than hearing it live. Agree?

  • Yes, yes, It was not as good as being at the Met (to which I have been to) but second best.

And the puppet boy --- wow, how did that work! but it worked amazingly well.

  • If she is even better live than I am really kicking myself for missing out on the sold out HD screening of this performance. Her voice has such a beautiful delicacy that, to me, epitomizes Puccini's attempt to capture Japanese female fragility. Yet at the same time the final moments have the powerful conviction of a woman unshaking her love. I loved it. Brava. Oh also the technique is superb.

  • Do you have any other clips of her as Cio-Cio-San? Would love to hear her entrance aria, or "Che tua madre dovra" again. I've seen her live in Butterfly six times and she always amazes me. She's the only real Butterfly singing nowadays.

  • For some reason these recondings don't do any justice to her voice. Her Butterfly at the Met is pure bliss and perfection. This recording does not capture the breadth of her artistic expression.

  • I just saw her as Cio Cio san last night in Chicago, and I was blown away. She really has a beautiful voice, and puts so much emotion into her work. I agree that you need to see her perform in person, because this recording is all right, but at the opera I was moved to tears.

  • Racette was phenomenal as Butterfly this afternoon at the Met. (11/1/08) If you have the chance to see her, take advantage of the opportunity. You won't regret it! Brava, Patricia.

  • Every time I hear her sing this I'm always surprised at how unimpressed I am.

  • I think it's because her pronunciation is way too American. Or something.

She can sing the hell out of Embroidery in Childhood, and she has an incredible voice, but I don't know. I just don't dig her in this aria.

And yet I keep listening to it ...

  • I am going to see her and Roberto Aronica tomorrow at the Met in Madama Butterfly.....can't wait!

  • It's because her voice is not exactly Italianate in timbre. Her diction is perfect! She is a great singer nonetheless.

  • Oh! Me gusta como la queda el aria! Podrias colgar el duo con Suzuki por favor?? Gracias ^^
