  • Where do you get Liquid nitrogen?

  • yea no gloves? would his hands freeze the moment the flesh touches the liquid?

  • @xjuicyJU1CE yeah instantly >.<

  • @xjuicyJU1CE Leidenfrost effect

  • its okay, its styrofoam!

  • steve is like a little kid with toys ;D

  • @AnimePolska for ages from scientist to steve spangler

  • no gloves

  • what woulda happened if he spilled some on his hand or skin??

  • @KingDennisJensen Instant Frostbite!!!!

  • So cool!!!

  • to woo.... make it happen!

  • lol I think my school is underfunded cuz we don't have a liquid nitrogen

  • dry ice vs liquid nitrogen?

  • mate........ gloves.

  • @FabioSneaky

thanks for the answer! And if Your wondering 100 c is boiling point, so it doesn't exactly evaporate at 100 c

  • @PuttAHsockinit

So is it a gas when it's poured? Or do you mean it's a liquid mixed with a gas?

  • Hey Steve, if liquid nitrogen is few hundred degrees below zero, how come it isn,t frozen? (freezing point=32f or 0c)

  • @randomkid1100 it's not the liquid that's actually frozen but the reaction it produces when it turns to a gas.

  • @randomkid1100 because it needs to be even colder to freeze... as far as i know (and i dont know alot) water is the only material that freezes at 0ºc and evaporates at 100ºc

and at ur second question, Kind of, but it's gas because it's already evaporating from the evironment heat, so yes, it's liquid and gas at the same time.

  • Dear Santa,

  • so if u dip the flower and dont crush it it will stay like that forever?

  • @browneyes1901 No it will eventually go back to normal. We played with liquid nitrogen in high school for chemistry and everything we put in it went back to normal eventually.

  • 2:08 turns back into a solid? This dude needs to go back to second grade.

  • 2:54 akward hand touch... :/

  • kaboom

  • 0:13 "put on your glasses so we don't get the emails" LOL

  • He's going to suffer the same fate as the T1000

  • 20 people got scared when he said "BANG" @ 2:12

  • hey Steve someday you're gona regret not putting gloves when handling liquid Nitrogen.

  • i can uss weed with that hhhh :D

  • i can uss weed with that hhhh :D

  • I love what you're doing here...

This is the simplest way to get people interested in science :)

Great work man... keep it up :D

  • 2:07

"and now it starts to turn back into a solid"

A little mistake there... I think you mean gas ;D

  • @piemanrocksyea he knows what he's doing he has practiced it and made sure that it's safe.

  • this guy has no safety gloves or tongs clearly no idea wtf is going on

  • Liquid Nitrogen Demonstration

80% nitrogen... they claimed yet only 79% here

  • you should have poured the whole bowl in the other one :O

  • Steve: "Now just take a sip of it. Don't worry it's safe."

  • i thought that was dangerous to get on your skin?

  • steve is all about that liquid nitrogen but she is all about steve ;)

  • when he said BAM i jumped

  • hahaha its funny how he said that was mean lol

  • try putting your hand on the Liquid Nitrogen

  • wow..crunchy flowers

  • Dear Mr. Spangler

I am not worried about glasses I am worried about GLOVES Liquid nitrogen is around -200 degrees will freeze you instantly (just as easily as the flower) so be careful with it !

  • at 2:07 he says his breath turns back into a solid (at room temperature)?

  • @chemistryrulesall The H2O in his breath froze...

  • @MulticoloredZebraz Nice Bullshit story, yo

  • How expensive would this be? I can't find it

  • THE BALOON IS ALIVE

  • What happens if you pt food colliding before the liquid nitrogen will the smoke come out the color or still white

  • @12345beep1 no it still would be white even if you put food coloring in the water because the thing that is turning into the fog is the liquid nitrogen (not the water and if you put food coloring in the liquid nitrogen it would freeze instantly into a food coloring ice cube) if you could find a coloring agent that would dissolve in liquid nitrogen (extremely unlikely! because it is a liquid gas) it may produce colored fog (MAY!). overall if you wanted colored fog you should buy a fog machine.

  • no no it's ok.

    bang!

  • HAHA the guy just chugs the bowl of liquid nitrogen HA

  • where can I get some Liquid Nitrogen

  • The guy in the video is very irresponsible. Liquid nitrogen is as dangerous if not more so than boiling water. If you stick your hand in a bowl of liquid nitrogen it will freeze instantly solid and all the tissues will die.

I hated the last part where the guy was just throwing the liquid nitrogen from the Styrofoam cup as if it was water. I also hated the part where he was dipping the balloon with his bare hands in the bowl. I hope he stays away from kids. He is begging for an accident.

  • @mafaon321 Umm not quite right. if you were to dunk your hand in the liquid nitrogen it wouldnt instantly freeze. It would about 1 second, due to the effect of your hand being so warm compare to the nitrogen ( Cant remeber the name right now) And also, the stryofaom insulates the nitrogen enough to where you can hold it and pour it.

  • @mafaon321 you are exactly correct he should have worn gloves (among other things he should have done and not done) the cold things I play with are only around -64 degrees F not the blistering cold of around -250 F and I wear gloves for protection!

  • @mafaon321 it is called wearing ski gloves scaredy cat

  • Listen at 2:04 he says his breath turns into a solid?

  • Touch it. :O

  • @EpIcTaCoMaN675 i think it would be better if you use dry ice. easier to get and more safer, i think.

  • People, this guy doesn't need to be wearing gloves. He'd be perfectly fine if he accidentally touched it. If he were to put his hand into it and keep it submerged then there would obviously be permanent damage. But simply having it run across your skin or simply touching it for a brief second won't hurt anything In fact, you could take your hand submerge it for a brief amount of time, then take your hand out and you would be fine.

  • @indridcoldx

Really? Try that for a second and see how much fun that would be. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

  • shouldn't he be wearing gloves.

  • As soon as you dip your finger in that shit, it's over.

  • @XR4MP4G3X actually the liquid nitrogen boils instantly around your finger and turns into nitrogen gas... so the nitrogen gas around your finger acts as an insulator and keeps your finger safe for o about a second or two... this is called the leidenfrost effect. The leidenfrost effect can be applied to molten lead.. so if you get lead crazy crazy crazy hot you can dip your finger in for about a second without any burns! Really cool stuff.. search some videos of hand/fingers in liquid nitrogen

  • @jjunit207 you actually need to dip your finger in water right before the lead. you can't just stuck your finger in lead when it is dry no matter how quick you do it. heh.

  • @jjunit207 I saw that on myth busters. Another way to mimic the effect is to heat up a pan and then put a drop of water in it.

  • @jjunit207

same thing happens if you drink it

it stays on your tongue with a layer of thin vapor in between

same thing happens when you see drops of water skittling on a hot stovetop

  • @jjunit207

You won't burn your finger, but you will be poisoned.

  • @Quintinohthree if your refuring to the lead portion of his statement. the lead needs to enter the blood stream in order to take a damage on your body

  • @jjunit207 yea.. still. not will to risk my fingers to look cool on t.v -.-

  • @jjunit207 The leidenfrost effect only works with molten lead if you fingers are damp, if they're dry you're going to severly burn your fingers.

  • @jjunit207 Like on Mythbusters!

  • @jjunit207 its true its called the "leidenfrost effect"

  • Wow I wish I had some liquid nitrogen

  • Why are they not wearing gloves??

  • LOl that man talks so fast, he sounds like speedy gonzalez on cocaine

  • You can put your hand in it, it will vaporize once it touches your skin, if there is not a large amount, so gloves are not required.

  • @Fantage112 Dude, you do know that you can poor liquid nitrogen over your hand without any damage? Google Leidenfrost Effect.

    :)

  • this idiot should wear gloves

  • @TheFruscianteRocks your the kind of person who goes to the doctor over a splinter huh? ;/ rofl you sound like what they are doing is dangerous.

  • @TheFruscianteRocks ur an idiot

  • @TheFruscianteRocks He know how to handle it so it dosn't matter much....

  • @TheFruscianteRocks UR A IDIOT

  • @TheFruscianteRocks Liquid nitrogen boils off your skin instantly, so even it wouldnt make a difference unless he just pored it all over his hands,

Also keep in mind hes a professional.

  • @TheFruscianteRocks I agree with you.

  • ... is that nitrogen in the bowl liquid? it looks pretty watery.

  • How do I store it and where?

Can I leave it inside the car?

Can I leave it on room temperature?

What happens when I didn't consume all of the liquid nitrogen?

    please help.

  • this was stressful to watch!

  • stick your hand in

  • hmm torture with liquid nitrogen..... >:)

  • would that be lethal to get just a drop in your skin?

  • HEY HERE'S A BALLOON I BLEW UP lol i started dieing

  • that guy really knows what he's doing Oo

  • "BING! I IZ KIDDING U"

  • his hands had frost on them :/

  • They dont need gloves thanks to the leidenfrost effect spellcheck plz

  • lolz i live in colorado and i met him. hes cool he made instasnow! xD

  • he totally tried to hold her hand at 2:47

  • what would happen if you put francium in liquid nitrogen? stuff 2 thing about

  • that news reporter is cute!

  • You can put an eye out with that stuff! Watch it. Pleazz, As you can see nothing happened without gloves on. Crap....When I worked at Intel many moons ago (errr 25 years) we'd trap each other in the corner of the shop by opening a tank of LN2 on the co-worker victim. hahahahahaha It was easy to move the tank when it was partially full. Image being pelted by LN2 blobs while a nice vapor formed around. No one died, got their eye put out or got frost bite. Hurt? Yes, sting. :) We did other pranks2

  • how do u get liquid nitrogen?

  • play 1:56 many times wat is he saying

    *epic failure*

  • @jinxkid00 Whahaha thats right!

  • @EnclaveRobloxTV whats your problem?

  • they're killing flowers!! killing them!!

  • erm 0:39, liquid nitrogen is 320 degrees below 0? thats not even possible, unless i heard it wrong :S

  • @TheMSwarriors hmm no u did not hear wrong, i was kinda amazed myself, concidering 0 kelvin. but, the man isnt wrong, you see he's talking about fahrenheit. The temperature he's refering too is: −196 °C or −321°F.

  • @TheMSwarriors degrees C

  • Where can I get that Liquid Nitrogen?

  • @CoolGizmo335 Gas or Welding supply usually have it.

  • Awesome!

  • Awesome..

  • That guy was taking WAY too much joy in handling that stuff...

  • @crzysteve159 wouldnt you?

  • That looked fun haha i want to try this experiment in school

  • 2:15 was sick LOL

  • i hav e liquid wat not. i got it from.. well yea i have it

    it freakin awesome!!!

  • i tried that it school once

  • what in the hell that was really careless wtf

  • these people are way too relaxed with liquid nitrogen

  • @doctorcheese22 He knows what he's doing. I wouldn't be scared with him handling it.

  • @doctorcheese22

It's really not dangerous, you could dunk your hands in it for several seconds and have no damage at all. It would take about three minutes submerged to freeze your hand sold.

  • @monkeytwineball not three minutes, you cant have your hand in liquid nitrogen for longer than a moment.

  • @doctorcheese22 Guess you never heard of the liedenfrost effect, go look it up.

  • Oooh, they use liquid nitrogen in bars or clubs right? for their drinks and stuff? xD

  • if i put that in my toilet then take a crap, what happens?

  • Can i ask if are there any special equipments that u need to handle liquid nitrogen?

  • yeaa go on put your hand in there, see what happens -.-

  • @scorpionsbomb nothing will actually for the first five seconds.......

  • omg im so gonna go into an empty room an seal of the windows an doors an have a blast with this stuff!

  • at 2:55 it could splat and go on his face and freeze it forever.

  • do not try this at home, its dangerous if you don't have special gloves for cryogenic liquids/gas

  • is it true if you put you hand in it you can like snap you finger off

  • @NSAshow it can cause frostbite really fast.

  • @NSAshow yup

  • put your hand in there

  • Ellen looks like she hates him most of the time

  • oh yeah cuz styrofoam is reeeaaalll safe

  • how to get some?

  • fianlly thank god, I've always wondered if liquid nitrogen was visible, all i ever see is fog and cloud, now i actually saw the liquid, yay!

  • At school we did this and i found a spider in the corner, got tongs, grabbed spider with tongs, put spider in Liquid nitrogen =D

  • he said, Its my breath inside as a liquid and now its turning BACK into a SOLID.

  • Lol i flinched at 2.14. Thumbs up if you did too.

  • @ScumbagKorain argh..I did too..

  • i want some of that

  • "no it's OK it's Styrofoam."

Yeah cause Styrofoam is the safest container in the world....

  • @lifescomicrelief he meant that its a good insulator for containing substances that are too hot or too cold

  • @lifescomicrelief It is, for liquid nitrogen.

  • DAMN I GOTTA HAVE SOME OF THAT :D

  • i watched this in skool

  • omg nerds!

  • 2:43 NOW I KNOW HOW DRY ICE FORMS FORMS

  • @aljibreel lol

  • very dangerous to get that close to it with no gloves, it would give you frostbite the instant you touch it

  • @xCmOn3yx2 actually the freezing isn't instantaneous. You have less than a second to get the nitrogen off before you freeze. Or something like that :\

  • @xCmOn3yx2 It doesn't actually happen instantly due to something called the Leidenfrost effect. Due to the radical differences in temperature...a gas forms between the two surfaces and protects it for a while. But it would only take a couple of seconds before the gas evaporates. Then you can kiss your hand goodbye!

  • @xCmOn3yx2 Actually no it wont. If your hand is at body temperature and the liquid nitrogen is much much colder so at first the nitrogen would roll off your skin. It would be very cold but it would take a few seconds before your hand is cold enough for the nitrogen to sink in. Much like when you drop water onto a hot black and the water is much colder and it rolls off.

  • It's not -320 that's imposible -273 is as cold as it it can go because every degree below 0 maks it lose 1 273 of is mass so when it's a -273 there is no mass left.

  • @MRsmileyz1 You should remember that they are using the Fahreheit scale, not Celsius

  • He's lucky not get injured from liquid nitrogen.

and there's no science at all

  • where can i find some!

i think my school's black market would be interested...

  • no you cant

  • Ive always wanted to use liquid nitrogen and freeze random stuff =)

  • Jack bauer should use liquid nitrogen

  • where does Liquid Nitrogen come from?

  • when u put dry ice in water

  • @foxtrot106 dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide lol, and dry ice doesn't turn into a liquid because CO2 goes through sublimation which means it turns directly from gas to solid. Liquid nitrogen is chilled nitrogen, it has nothing to do with dry ice. start paying attention in chem class..

  • @DatMexicano57 nitrogen

  • did you know that clouds are liquid nitrogens? yes they are!

  • 3:14 thats awesome

  • wait a second, this is on 9 news in CO! :O thats my local news channel

  • @FinalStarmanDX im going to stock u now

  • so cold it boils.

  • wicked

  • Wheres your dam gloves?

  • @Duntime

    they pro hahahahaha
