I love foxes. I'm getting two Arctic foxes from a breeder in a couple of years. They make good pets if you have the time, finances, knowledge and space. Our state allows for the ownership of a pet fox as long as it is not a RED or GRAY and you apply for a permit.
@PetaPanPipes Foxes are genetically canines, so I would say more dog-like... Though some of their vocalizations sound like cat meows.
They also move gracefully like that of a cat, but I think they're more of a dog-like personality. Especially in the wild when they play with their siblings they exhibit those behaviors.

You must have good medical insurance because you will either get bit and/or scratched with the razor sharp claws which could require stitches (at the very least). Did I mention that I had the bones on my right hand crushed by a fox's bone crushing jaws? It hurt but I continue to rescue them because I love them.

Although foxes are canines, I find they remind me partly of dogs and partly of cats, while coyotes and wolves remind me primarily of dogs. Would anyone here happen to understand the genetic biology of why?
@HiddenFacedMatt when you actually compare a fox to a cat its really easy to see the differences. The reason it reminds you of cats is probably because they're such lightweight nimble animals when compared to dogs, i only found out they were in the canidae family a couple days ago and I was pretty suprised
@TheDassid It depends on a few things...if one were to adopt a fox as a pet, one would have to be sure that it was captive bred and socialized properly. They aren't dissimilar to dogs in a lot of ways, but keep in mind that even though said fox might be "tame", it is not "domestic" and is still a wild animal. They aren't as dangerous as other exotic animals one could obtain, however, and they are very playful :3

If you don't mind it that one min. they're sweet and docile but the next they want to bite off your nose. If you don't mind holes dug into your carpet or furniture. If you don't mind permanent skunk shoes from them scent marking because nothing will get the stink out. If you don't mind shabby chic fringe drapes from a fox climbing them. Then MAYBE
@SpiritWhiteFox2 i have loads of free time and money for the time being and the drapes don't have any my windows are tinted. my furniture is dorm furniture the only real thing in my house is a flat screen. i have an office which will be off limits and i plan on getting her nuttered. my backyard is huge for when i can't walk her. and biting? i had a wolf that walked in and out of my house so that doesnt seem like it'd be a problem but all in all a little pain does the soul some good is what i say

If you plan to spend the rest of the fox's life away from friends, family, significant other because foxes only bond with one person and will become vicious around other people. If your neighbors don't mind the skunk odor permiating from your dwelling or the blood curdling screams at night. Wolves are EASIER than foxes.
they are just such an amazing animal they never cease to amaze I can't wait for spring so foxy and all the babies can get out in the warn air and play their heads off. The last few days Foxy has not even wanted to come out of her nest. I did not breed her but I suppose she went through or is going through estrus. or maybe she just wants summer to get here also.
@jaydahsxcreator Bridgette has a warning bark but I never got it on video yet. She only makes the bark whenever there is a stranger around, which doesn't happen too often. There is a video on YT of a red fox making the warning bark. I think they titled it fox cry though.

If you own a fox you should know that foxes aren't all the same. As they are brought up differently- they respond to humans differently. Some foxes can't just lope around the house, they love to chew on anything and everything- then they pee and poop while others are more trustworthy. She's only being responsible by keeping an extra eye on her fox. You can tell that fox is NOT unhappy. And Kevie is a SHE.
There's no need for name calling here. Dannyri101's comment was not disrespectful in anyway and it was the truth. You'd know that if you have a fox as you claim to.

If you own a fox you should know that foxes aren't all the same. As they are brought up differently- they respond to humans differently. Some foxes can't just lope around the house, they love to chew on anything and everything- then they pee and poop while others are more trustworthy. She's only being responsible by keeping an extra eye on her fox. You can tell that fox is NOT unhappy. And Kevie is a SHE.
