The key to this headset is to distribute the weight to the top of your head. It's pretty simple and you don't need to destroy your headset or have all these wacky attaché,wants :)
Also, why would you mount the track clip like that? Just use a wire snip and cut the little cubes off and a little adhesive and presto, stealth track clip. Gotta say most everybody modding this thing need to do a better job thinking out their designs. :)
you'll find my super quick, cheap, comfort mod that really makes this HMD shine for racing games. Addresses all you're concerns. You didn't have to take it apart. People have tried my way and it works. Go to the MTBS3D augmented reality section, top of the page.
Not sure if you know this trick but if you are not happy with you elite's FFB in general, here is a quick trick to make it a lot better: Install logitech G25 drivers and switch Elite to PS3 mode. Now your elite will have best of both worlds. You can still adjust settings on your wheel too. Thats what I did with mine and I love it.
@SpontsXF1 yeah, I heard about that....I finally got around to trying it to get FFB working with Project CARS, but my wheel won't go into PS3 mode, and Fanatec is ignoring me :(
Holy shit that was frustrating for the first 4-5 mins i wanted to tear the skin off my face with my nails waiting for you to get on with it lol Did you try adjusting the TrackIR settings mate? You can pretty much give it a zero dead-zone so it feels like your looking around in real life with zero delay and no auto-lock deadzone in the centre.
Surely turn off rumble feedback on the wheel and tweak TrackIR (just change the curve nodes into straight lines up a gentle slope) it would be great?
@miahallen Hope its more comfy now, theres a few nice ideas on the avg official hmz owners thread like using a welding helmet strap to get a comfort fit you might want to check out. Thanks again for the video review with trackir i think its still one of the only ones online at the mo :)
@mayamanign , I tried it both ways....fully assebled, it just would not fit correctly on my head (as I mentioned in the video). The rigidity of the unit was just fine after the modifications.
Wyou didn't have to disassemble it, you only had to run a piece laptop bag strap over the too so it would fit like a VRX. You could have just removed the pad bracket. It's an awesome device. Wish you luck.
@mayamanign Tried that too....the problem with it setup from the factory is the forehead pad is too far back and I cannot get my eyes close enough to the eyepieces to see the images clearly unless the forehead bracket is removed completely (I had no idea my forehead was so ginormous until now).
@miahallen I imagine the engineers had a recessed forehead, given their cognitive detriment; they lack the need of a bigger skull.
I'm sorry you were cursed with an abnormally superior brain, but I think you should have done a little more research before purchasing this penguin beak piece of garbage on your face.
You should have tried to return it or sell it on ebay, and made your own instead. This thing is primitive and pathetic.
I really wanted it to work (obviously)...but even with all the effort, I just was not happy with it. And even with the modifications, I could not get it comfortable.
@MackDaddi I tried using welding goggles, but I could not get the alignment right. I thought about a welding hood/mask...but thought it would be very heavy and prone to fog.
@AlbExVideos, cool....any details on what you're using. I'm sure many would be interested in your approach! Which wheel are you using? The CSR-Elite is VERY strong, a weaker wheel would probably have less problems.
With my mod the forehead pad is removed, the HMZ is now where it's supposed to be.

@Falandorn LMAO...thanks....I'm sure I could have gotten it better, but the discomfort ruined the possibility :(

Also you can't really give a judgement on it because you completely disassemble the device ruining its rigidity. Kind unfair IMO

Hmmm - been seriously considering one of these - fanatic FSim user - and Love GRID.
I hadn't considered the effect of the thing jostling around on your head - it must be like your standard 24" monitor bouncing around on springs...?
I've been a trackir user for years and love it. Even bought some Rimax Virtual Vision specs about 3 years back, but they were terrible.
Have you had any further success?
From what you describe, the OLED's need mounting on some kind of Image Stabiliser device...

Some people have modified the HMZ-T1 to work with a replacement welding mask headgear. Seems like a good way to go.

Try single sided 1" wide foam tape It might help with comfort and vibration dampening
