LOL You just proved my point, your a racist. Racist ignorant people like you are losing this battle, America will unite eventually whether you like it or not you bigot.
I am a white man and I am voting for Obama because I think he will be a brilliant president. But I also must say, if Barack is elected, I can only imagine the great things it will do for Afro-Americans. They will have so much more pride in themselves and feel able to really participate in our country and that makes me want to cry, because after working last year in Detroit and seeing life with segregation is still alive in America, Obama could change that. I love this man, he inspires me.

Obama cannot even unite his own party. He had his Lawyers go to Michigan to block the primary re-vote. In short, McCain is a fighter and Obama is a puss.
Yes. And who are you to classify people like that? They are people doing a job. So they get paid too much, and don't have to follow the RoE. That somehow means you can label them all as filth who should be banned? I'm afraid your point of view on this issue is rather juvenile.
Blackwater are murderers...period...compare the salaries of their Mercs to the Military? How the hell can anyone support such a slap in to the Soldiers?
Obama isn't going to unite anything. He can't even unite his own party. And what is so awful about America now that "needs" to be changed anyway? Healthcare? Please, just look at Canada and Europe too see how well that works. Obama has nothing more to offer us than Jimmy Carter and Clinton.
Tell the people that the war in Iraq is over...redeploy the soldiers to Afghanistan/eventually Pakistan...while keeping the war profiteering alive with tens of thousands of Mercs being left behind in Iraq....on the tax payers might I add.
My basis for my claim is the renewable of Blackwaters contract last April for 1 year (at the estimated cost of 1 Billion dollars...up from 700k in 2003)....Henry Waxman has called for the cancellation of the contract as have many others. Obama could have easily supported this given the evidence against Blackwater. Instead he will not address it. On top of that Obama voted to extend the FISA bill...I'm not exactly sure where the "Change" part comes in...just my opinon though.
I mean think about it.....Blackwater walks around and flagrantly kills innocent civilians....does this help the mission? No it foments it. Most likely causing retaliations, against whom? The soldiers deserve better.
I wonder how the volunteer soldiers feel about Blackwater Mercenaries (lets not confuse "private contractors" from what they really are), making so much money, no accountability and so on. I think it's easy to fool people when propagandizing their role. They are murderers...hired guns on steroids...nothing more, nothing less. If Obama can't see that, it says a lot about his intentions.
Well, Obama said he wouldn't entirely ban the use of private military contractors, but he favours a bill that would bring criminal charges against those that break the law.
scottish: You're oversimplifying Obama's position. All this stuff about Blackwater is now being, or has been, worked out to insure that there is legal accountability, perhaps even accountability to the Iraq government, for any security organization, including BW. Keep in mind that all persons in Blackwater are not war criminals. Obama is not going to do anything that will further harm our standing in the region, as Blackwater has done.
Let's see... They are both black, they are both great public speakers, Barack is a prime example of what MLK fought for 50 years ago, They are both key figures in showing how our society is improving, and we are moving beyond racial barriers which were once firmly in place. There.
I'm sure if he were alive today, he would be happy to see Obama, and what this nation has accomplished. In fact, someone who was close friends, and worked with MLK was on the news from the Democratic convention, discussing how elated MLK would be to see Obama accepting the nomination.
Slum lawyer? I think you are taking that the wrong way he fought for the rights of the poor and out of work, something MLK would more then likely find noble and compassionate.
Obama Worked for a law firm that had a client named Rezko that mismanaged funds which is not the responsibility of the law firm and Obama did not even work on the account. When the City of Chicago went after Rezko they didn't go after the law firm, but when Clinton brought it up she knew that the media would eat it up, and then they look into it and dropped it. Don't you think that would be McCain's Battle cry if it held water even a little?
Blackwater is over in Iraq working hard. It's not their fault they get paid too much, and don't share the same rules of engagement. It's the Bush administrations fault. Blackwater won't be fighting if we pull out of Iraq, now will they?
They are a legitimate private contracting company, and quite frankly, we need a para-military organization like them. Someone not bound by the ridicules rules of engagement put in place by the US Military. It helps save more US lives over there.
First of all, you will need to prove your claim that Blackwater contractors KNOWINGLY killed Canadian troops (Canada has an army? lolwut). And if you think US Soldiers aren't killing civilians too, you've got a problem. I GUARANTEE McCain isn't going to do SHIT about restricting Blackwater.
Blackwater's official duty over there is to protect US Soldiers and they do that well. They've lost plenty of men, just as the US Army has, so if you think they are over there loafing off, do some research.
There is an ongoing investigation of the deaths of these soldiers. If you mistake a Canadian soldier for an enemy, you knowingly killed them. All of the evidence points to Blackwater.
I'm fully aware of Blackwater's goal there. But America should never hire mercenaries to fight in a war. Because that's exactly what they are, mecs with loyalty to the almighty coin.
I think the deal with BlackWater goes a lot deeper. They are an army that has no sworn duty to uphold the Constitution. They are made up of ex U S military special ops personel to a high degree, they are very well armed and equiped and I'll bet they are super well screened. They could be real useful if someone wanted to declare martial law to stay out of jail. Just a thought.
Not just ex-military, but literally mercenaries from other countries. The ones who pay them give the orders, and that can be anything. They have no morals.
To somehow say that people who work for Blackwater are immoral is preposterous. There are over 100,000 contractors in Iraq. They are a significant force, and the lives of innocent Iraqis and US Soldiers alike would be more at risk without them present. They would not accept money from someone who wanted them to do something completely illegal or immoral, like Plutonwolf's comment suggests. They are people too. They are fighting for their lives in Iraq. You think US Soldiers fight for free?
They are mercenaries. Of course they are immoral. Are you familiar with the term "blood money". They fit the term perfectly. They kill for money. How can you trust an army that works for money. Imagine the war is over, do you honestly think that the transition to local security will be easy? They won't even go through with it, they will end up in the world market.
They are a significant force, which is why they are not to be trusted.
I think U S soldiers fight because it is their DUTY! These 'heroic' "contractors" get paid ungodly sums to do what U S soldiers once did. Why? Because the myth of privatization has taken root in the fertile soil of the uninformed mindset.
Me, I prefer more traditional American methods, methods that have served us well since the founding of our great country, not the propaganda of the Neo playbook.
I know! Lets do a scientific experiment! Tell every US Soldier in Iraq that they are no longer being paid, and see what the fuck happens!
Where do you get your bullshit patriotic ideals? IT'S A LIE! "duty"? give me a break. They fight because it's there job, and they were ordered to. Ask every US Soldier over there, and you may find one.. or two who actually WANT to be risking their lives for neoconservative big-oil warmongers like George Bush, and John McCain.
No, I don't think they smoke the Neo-Con crack pipe, but most joined to serve their country and better themselves, not to be used as cannon fodder for some fucked up piece of geo-political money making. Would they like a raise? Fuck yeah they would! But they won't get one because we spend so fucking much on wasteful shit like 180,000 a year mercs who do the same thing as 35,000 a year grunts. Real nice, thats the way to encourage the troops and let them know we care............about profits!
I actually agree with half of that :D The part about them not joining to be cannon fodder. The money this country uses to pay for mercs is NOTHING compared with the money we waste on so many other things that could be eliminated.
Few people join the army and risk death to "serve their country". That's garbage, and it doesn't happen anymore. Some reasons are as follows: They failed High School, they have no way to pay for college, the paycheck, and better themselves. You got that one.
So you want all of the military privatized. You seem to have an incredibly low opinion of the armed services. Does this opinion stem from a recent tour? What is your basis for the depth of your contempt? I am not baiting you, I really am curious. I did a tour long ago and I did join because I felt I owed something. I also know several young people currently in the military and they all hate the mercs. Called them over payed glory boys.
Soldiers who join because they felt they "owed something" are brainwashed. At least if those soldiers are joining up to go to Iraq. Those who did so to go fuck up Taliban, that's perfectly fine.
I'm not surprised that soldiers in Iraq hate mercs... they don't have rules of engagement, and they make more money.
The privatization of traditional military functions is non-cost effective and pure poison to moral. I fail to see any upside to it other than allowing killers to go off the reservation and do horrible things consequence free. Like you said, no RoE to answer to.
As to the "brainwashing" issue, in my case, I protested the Nam war all thru High School, I felt I really used my rights and gifts as a citizen and I owed my country some payback...I was 18, okay? And it didn't turn out badly for me
You were 18 during Nam and didn't get drafted? As for the killers going on on whatever rampages, etc.. Have you ever heard of the Tiger Force? a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam war. They killed more civilians than enemies, including doing terrible things to woman and children. Sure they had RoE. And sure things like that probably happen today.
Also, hold up. You protested Nam, and felt used by your country... so you joined the army? sorry if I misunderstood something.
Hold on there. I turned 18 in 73. I joined the USAF. I never felt used by my country. I used my rights and took some shit from troglodytes and gave back harder than I got. I'm no hippy, I like to scrap and so does my kids, must be the Irish in us. I may disagree with the leaders, but they aren't my country. Leaders come and leaders go, but America lives on. Too many zipper heads lose sight of that fact.
We don't need mercs. They always betray the hand that wields them.
I don't think it's right to put one big label on mercenaries like that. Some of them abuse their lack of restrictions, and some of them abide by standard moral codes that are built into every human. I'm sure Blackwater has policies forbidding things like.. shooting civilians. The thing is... I believe with leaders like Bush, and McCain, I don't believe this country as we know it will last much longer.
I have no issues with an individual who wants to earn a damn fine living risking his life. But it is the owner and CEO of blackwater that is a very bad person. Look into him. The thing is, he can decide to do things arbitrarily, nothing to stop him. And his politics are to the right of Attilla the Hun.
But mostly I still think this is extremely cost ineffective. The military has done things a lot better for a long time, why mess with success?
As far as cost and wasting of this countries money, I believe Blackwater is on the back burner.. so to speak. Of all the things this country uses way too much money for, they are the least of my worries. I'll look into that CEO, but you can't deny the importance of their presence in Iraq. There's what... 200,000+ mercenaries there?
here's a few small examples of how they are helping: /watch?v=1Y9DeuAnTF0 /watch?v=TzFkMIOzu_o
The whole idea of outsourcing war effort participants is just a huge boondoggle to siphon money off to political friends of the current regime in D C. Ever wonder why this "war" is so expensive? 10 billion a month? I never thought it was a good idea to go into Iraq in the first place, but I now see why the Bush regime was so horny to go there, that place has been a cash cow from day one.
And I don't doubt that members of the blackwater forces comport themselves with honor and courage, but it is the basic idea that we use mercs that causes me no end of upset. We have the best armed forces in the world, why do we need to go the merc route? This will have a bad outcome if it doesn't stop soon, I guarantee it.
Well, considering their significant presence there, It could be to avoid a draft. It could also be the tactical advantage of having people who don't need to follow the RoE. If there's a group of enemies that are obviously a threat, but have not attacked US soldiers, and US Soldiers have not been given clearance to attack them, they are stuck, possibly until it's too late. But Blackwater can engage them, or so that's what I think.
I know that in the short run, it is good to have that RoE flexibility, but never imagine that it doesn't comee at a price. We have lost so much stature around the world since Shrub decided to wipe his ass with the Geneva convention like he did with the Costitution.
As for the draft, I hated the idea when I was young, but I see it differently now. If EVERYONES children were at risk would we be so eager to engage in wars for profit? I would hope not.
Well I'm 19, so if there was a draft now, I'd be at risk. Blackwater guys are experienced, and most of them are ex-military. Seems like a better idea to have them fighting than me. The only combat experience I have comes from Airsoft in the woods :D
There was a draft put in place in the Vietnam war. My dad was drafted. Pretty much the entire country opposed that war to the point of violent protest. Yet America was there for what.. 12 years? over 100,000 soldiers lost? Having a draft won't help.
For so many reaons that I could burn thru a 5,000,000 character count and still not list them all, it would now. For one thing, most everyone I now know has at most two children, tons only have one. Thats the whole genetic package, one bullet ends the lineage. Back in my day, most had 3 or 4 kids and to put it coldly, there was offspring to spare. Another factor is that women would be included. I know it's cold hearted as hell, but it is what is needed. The poor can't always bear the brunt.
It may be a solution had the likelihood of a draft been made clear to the American public before we got ourselves into all these wars. But right now the war in Iraq has something of an 80% disapproval rating, yet there is talk of being there for 100 years. This is a direct quote from John McCain: "I disagree with what the majority of the American people think." Sure a draft would create public outcry, but would Washington give a shit? There's outcry already, and no end in sight.
Heh, yeah, there's a discontent over the fiasco in Iraq, I can't deny that. But ask your dad what it was like in the late sixties and early seventies. Comparing then to now is like saying a pit bull and a yorky are dogs so they are equal. President piss pants would shit if he had to face what Nixon faced. I may have hated Nixon, but like piss boys father, Nixon had an ample supply of ball balls, the man stood his ground. Chicken George would fold.
I don't know if counting on George W. Fail folding is good enough to justify a draft. I know I don't want to risk being shipped to Iraq. I usually lose airsoft =/ Had my dad been sent, My grandmother was ready to up and move to Canada :D
I'd have to think about what the public would do, were a draft to be instated in this day and age. I honestly think it could not happen. They won't do it because the public outcry would be too severe, and they would never get away with it. So they use mercs.
I'm not being sarcastic when I say that you can never tell what you can be capable of, never sell yourself short.
And I think you make my point about there being a huge outcry over the draft. The best way to make sure that there will be no more wars of adventure is to enact a law that states that there will be a draft if there is any open hostilities. I think this would rein in pissy little snots like W in the future. We need to make the pain shared by all of us, not just the poorest.
A law like that could never pass, because people will take it for the opposite of what it is, overlooking it's intent. If Obama gets elected, I believe a republican will not see a position of significant power in this government for a very long time. Hopefully then, we won't need to worry about it, because we won't be in these type of wars in the first place.
Also, a law like that would have to be followed for legitimate conflicts as well, even if it's not needed. Which lessons its appeal.
The direct Opposite is true. He would be a screw up like Jimmy Carter and not a success like Bill Clinton. Then we would not see another Democrat President for a long, long time.
And Obama would fold way worse after 8 years of Bush/Cheney. Hillary is so much more capable than Obama, that if the Democrats lose yet again, it will be side-splitting laughter.
You need to take a course in basic grammar and composition. I need a fucking Rosseta stone to flesh out what the hell you are babbling on about.
If McCain wins, he will be dead within a year and a half witted neo-theocrat with an over active set of ovaries will be President. We will be so fucked it hurts to think about.
Laughter? The only laughter that you'll hear will be the gales of joyous laughter coming from Americas enemies. Dumbasses do not make good leaders......ever.
Too many decide to serve in the military because they perceive service as an easy road to upward social and economic mobility. Careerists generally treat their military service as glorified welfare.
There was a large contingent of Americans who volunteered to serve after 9/11. I was one of them. I believed the lies about Iraq being a threat to our security. When I became a recruiter for the Marines in March of 2007, I discovered that that patriotic sentiment no longer exists.
Also, here's what I believe. Someone needs to think of a good way to restrict the activities of mercenaries, to keep them from committing war crimes and getting away with it.
That said, they are a vital component in Operation "Iraqi freedom", and the "War on Terror". They are a great help. Too bad we shouldn't be in Iraq anyway...
Hell yeah on the "we shouldn't be there in Iraq" The Ranger I know wants to go back to Afghanistan and kill the shit out of Talibaners. But he has done 2 tours in Iraq and now wants to discharge, he planned on being career.
No he doesn't. He just doesn't favour banning private military contractors. He is in favour of prosecuting those private soldiers that break the law. I personally think they should be banned or at least severely restricted, but he's leagues better than McCain on this. If you want to know Obama's position on contractors: watch?v=yuQq70QSMi4

lol, Listen to them, all complimenting his " Speech "
These people elected the Dems back into congress to stop the war, it didn't happen. Obama said the war can't end atleast until' 2012 ( even then it will just be the combat troops to return home ) and they still stay complacent with democrats.
These people are pathetic and disgusting and the reason why this country is going straight into the shitter.
And you think John McCain will end it? It's hard for a congress to end a war, especially with a lame-duck president vetoing everything they throw at him. According to McCain, the war won't end until.. say.. 2108. Good fucking game.
That's the problem, people think they are limited to just these 2 candidates.
research, look into 3rd parties, and don't for a second think that they don't have a chance. If enough people said " You know what, I'm going to vote for the guy I really want " something might happen.
The problem is, nobody will say that. The majority of this country is not educated enough to make the decision for themselves. They watch the news, and let other people decide for them. The 2 party system is firmly in place, unfortunately, and there is nothing that can be done about it at the moment. So, honestly, 3rd party candidates do NOT have a chance, and any vote cast for one is a waste and only serves to, in most cases, strengthen the Republican's chance. We are limited to 2 candidates.
Obama did give a fantastic speech last night, but has everyone forgotten this is an election year? Every four years people rally around high minded rhetoric, but that rhetoric seldom translates into substantive policy.
Obama supporters talk a lot about hope. Here is mine: I hope you guys don't forget to hold Obama to his word once the election is over.
Agreed. I think he did do something important in his speech, by explaining exactly what he meant by "change", considering the overuse of the word has been a criticism of his campaign lately.
If we get McSame, this country's standard of living is really going down the tubes. Obama may be our last chance to get the country back on track. Obama is smart. Who cares what color he is, we need someone intelligent in the White House for a change. Dumb doesn't work.
I am sorry folks, Obama is a treat to many rich and powerful people, they will do anything to prevent him being President of the USA. My guess is that they will kill him, thats what has been done everytime there comes a man with Obamas attitude. I had tears in my eyes when Obama made his speech, he is a fantastic man and we in Denmark could use a man like him. And we dont kill him, I can promise you that.... Good luck to all americans from denmark......
Yes, off course I mean "threat", I can see that one H can make a lot of difference :-) I learned myself to speak english, never had it in school, sorry..
knud: In fact, although Obama is less tied into the special interests, even so, no one is going to be able to challenge the domination of our government by the largest corporations and the military-industrial complex in the U.S. Obama wants to be elected, so there is only so much he can do. He must be, to some extent, a friend to Wall Street or his chances will vanish.
I take offense to the comparison of Obama and Dr. King.
Martin was a GREAT MAN, and put his life on the line, beaten by cops, bottles thrown at him. He did REAL WORK with REAL PEOPLE.
Obama is not keeping a lot of his promises.
If Martin Luther King was alive today, he would have voted for someone like :

tdrobar,
My basis for my claim is the renewable of Blackwaters contract last April for 1 year (at the estimated cost of 1 Billion dollars...up from 700k in 2003)....Henry Waxman has called for the cancellation of the contract as have many others. Obama could have easily supported this given the evidence against Blackwater. Instead he will not address it. On top of that Obama voted to extend the FISA bill...I'm not exactly sure where the "Change" part comes in...just my opinon though.
ScottishViking77 3 years ago
I mean think about it.....Blackwater walks around and flagrantly kills innocent civilians....does this help the mission? No it foments it. Most likely causing retaliations, against whom? The soldiers deserve better.
ScottishViking77 3 years ago
I wonder how the volunteer soldiers feel about Blackwater Mercenaries (lets not confuse "private contractors" from what they really are), making so much money, no accountability and so on. I think it's easy to fool people when propagandizing their role. They are murderers...hired guns on steroids...nothing more, nothing less. If Obama can't see that, it says a lot about his intentions.
ScottishViking77 3 years ago
Blackwater are war criminals....deny it if you like, Obama plans to continue using them.
ScottishViking77 3 years ago
Well, Obama said he wouldn't entirely ban the use of private military contractors, but he favours a bill that would bring criminal charges against those that break the law.

tdrobar 3 years ago
scottish: You're oversimplifying Obama's position.

Don't you think that would be McCain's Battle cry if it held water even a little?
loki3692 3 years ago
Obama supports Blackwater Mercenaries....how is that change?
ScottishViking77 3 years ago
Blackwater is over in Iraq working hard. It's not their fault they get paid too much, and don't share the same rules of engagement. It's the Bush administrations fault. Blackwater won't be fighting if we pull out of Iraq, now will they?
They are a legitimate private contracting company, and quite frankly, we need a para-military organization like them. Someone not bound by the ridicules rules of engagement put in place by the US Military. It helps save more US lives over there.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
So you support paying mercenaries doing whatever they want in the battlefield. Like killing allied soldiers and civilians.
Blackwater killed Canadian troops, how is it this is not an issue.
snipzor 3 years ago
First of all, you will need to prove your claim that Blackwater contractors KNOWINGLY killed Canadian troops (Canada has an army? lolwut). And if you think US Soldiers aren't killing civilians too, you've got a problem. I GUARANTEE McCain isn't going to do SHIT about restricting Blackwater.
Blackwater's official duty over there is to protect US Soldiers and they do that well. They've lost plenty of men, just as the US Army has, so if you think they are over there loafing off, do some research.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
There is an ongoing investigation of the deaths of these soldiers. If you mistake a Canadian soldier for an enemy, you knowingly killed them. All of the evidence points to Blackwater.
I'm fully aware of Blackwater's goal there. But America should never hire mercenaries to fight in a war. Because that's exactly what they are, mecs with loyalty to the almighty coin.
snipzor 3 years ago
I think the deal with BlackWater goes a lot deeper. They are an army that has no sworn duty to uphold the Constitution. They are made up of ex U S military special ops personel to a high degree, they are very well armed and equiped and I'll bet they are super well screened. They could be real useful if someone wanted to declare martial law to stay out of jail. Just a thought.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Not just ex-military, but literally mercenaries from other countries. The ones who pay them give the orders, and that can be anything. They have no morals.
They are not to be trusted.
snipzor 3 years ago
To somehow say that people who work for Blackwater are immoral is preposterous. There are over 100,000 contractors in Iraq. They are a significant force, and the lives of innocent Iraqis and US Soldiers alike would be more at risk without them present. They would not accept money from someone who wanted them to do something completely illegal or immoral, like Plutonwolf's comment suggests. They are people too. They are fighting for their lives in Iraq. You think US Soldiers fight for free?
Haxxploits 3 years ago
They are mercenaries. Of course they are immoral. Are you familiar with the term "blood money". They fit the term perfectly. They kill for money. How can you trust an army that works for money. Imagine the war is over, do you honestly think that the transition to local security will be easy? They won't even go through with it, they will end up in the world market.
They are a significant force, which is why they are not to be trusted.
snipzor 3 years ago
The problem is they are not held accountable, and our lower paid troops sometimes face their blowback.
aaroncarver 3 years ago
I think U S soldiers fight because it is their DUTY! These 'heroic' "contractors" get paid ungodly sums to do what U S soldiers once did. Why? Because the myth of privatization has taken root in the fertile soil of the uninformed mindset.
Me, I prefer more traditional American methods, methods that have served us well since the founding of our great country, not the propaganda of the Neo playbook.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Haxxploits 3 years ago
No, I don't think they smoke the Neo-Con crack pipe, but most joined to serve their country and better themselves, not to be used as cannon fodder for some fucked up piece of geo-political money making. Would they like a raise? Fuck yeah they would! But they won't get one because we spend so fucking much on wasteful shit like 180,000 a year mercs who do the same thing as 35,000 a year grunts. Real nice, thats the way to encourage the troops and let them know we care............about profits!
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
I actually agree with half of that :D The part about them not joining to be cannon fodder. The money this country uses to pay for mercs is NOTHING compared with the money we waste on so many other things that could be eliminated.
Few people join the army and risk death to "serve their country". That's garbage, and it doesn't happen anymore. Some reasons are as follows: They failed High School, they have no way to pay for college, the paycheck, and better themselves. You got that one.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
So you want all of the military privatized. You seem to have an incredibly low opinion of the armed services. Does this opinion stem from a recent tour? What is your basis for the depth of your contempt? I am not baiting you, I really am curious. I did a tour long ago and I did join because I felt I owed something. I also know several young people currently in the military and they all hate the mercs. Called them over payed glory boys.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
I don't want all military privatized.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
The privatization of traditional military functions is non-cost effective and pure poison to moral. I fail to see any upside to it other than allowing killers to go off the reservation and do horrible things consequence free. Like you said, no RoE to answer to.
As to the "brainwashing" issue, in my case, I protested the Nam war all thru High School, I felt I really used my rights and gifts as a citizen and I owed my country some payback...I was 18, okay? And it didn't turn out badly for me
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
You were 18 during Nam and didn't get drafted? As for the killers going on on whatever rampages, etc.. Have you ever heard of the Tiger Force? a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam war. They killed more civilians than enemies, including doing terrible things to woman and children. Sure they had RoE. And sure things like that probably happen today.
Also, hold up. You protested Nam, and felt used by your country... so you joined the army? sorry if I misunderstood something.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
Hold on there. I turned 18 in 73. I joined the USAF. I never felt used by my country. I used my rights and took some shit from troglodytes and gave back harder than I got. I'm no hippy, I like to scrap and so does my kids, must be the Irish in us. I may disagree with the leaders, but they aren't my country. Leaders come and leaders go, but America lives on. Too many zipper heads lose sight of that fact.
We don't need mercs. They always betray the hand that wields them.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Sorry, must have missed something then.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
I have no issues with an individual who wants to earn a damn fine living risking his life. But it is the owner and CEO of blackwater that is a very bad person. Look into him. The thing is, he can decide to do things arbitrarily, nothing to stop him. And his politics are to the right of Attilla the Hun.
But mostly I still think this is extremely cost ineffective. The military has done things a lot better for a long time, why mess with success?
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
As far as cost and wasting of this countries money, I believe Blackwater is on the back burner.. so to speak. Of all the things this country uses way too much money for, they are the least of my worries. I'll look into that CEO, but you can't deny the importance of their presence in Iraq. There's what... 200,000+ mercenaries there?
here's a few small examples of how they are helping: /watch?v=1Y9DeuAnTF0 /watch?v=TzFkMIOzu_o
Haxxploits 3 years ago
The whole idea of outsourcing war effort participants is just a huge boondoggle to siphon money off to political friends of the current regime in D C. Ever wonder why this "war" is so expensive? 10 billion a month? I never thought it was a good idea to go into Iraq in the first place, but I now see why the Bush regime was so horny to go there, that place has been a cash cow from day one.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
And I don't doubt that members of the blackwater forces comport themselves with honor and courage, but it is the basic idea that we use mercs that causes me no end of upset. We have the best armed forces in the world, why do we need to go the merc route? This will have a bad outcome if it doesn't stop soon, I guarantee it.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Well, considering their significant presence there, It could be to avoid a draft. It could also be the tactical advantage of having people who don't need to follow the RoE. If there's a group of enemies that are obviously a threat, but have not attacked US soldiers, and US Soldiers have not been given clearance to attack them, they are stuck, possibly until it's too late. But Blackwater can engage them, or so that's what I think.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
I know that in the short run, it is good to have that RoE flexibility, but never imagine that it doesn't comee at a price. We have lost so much stature around the world since Shrub decided to wipe his ass with the Geneva convention like he did with the Costitution.
As for the draft, I hated the idea when I was young, but I see it differently now. If EVERYONES children were at risk would we be so eager to engage in wars for profit? I would hope not.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Well I'm 19, so if there was a draft now, I'd be at risk. Blackwater guys are experienced, and most of them are ex-military. Seems like a better idea to have them fighting than me. The only combat experience I have comes from Airsoft in the woods :D
There was a draft put in place in the Vietnam war. My dad was drafted. Pretty much the entire country opposed that war to the point of violent protest. Yet America was there for what.. 12 years? over 100,000 soldiers lost? Having a draft won't help.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
For so many reaons that I could burn thru a 5,000,000 character count and still not list them all, it would now. For one thing, most everyone I now know has at most two children, tons only have one. Thats the whole genetic package, one bullet ends the lineage. Back in my day, most had 3 or 4 kids and to put it coldly, there was offspring to spare. Another factor is that women would be included. I know it's cold hearted as hell, but it is what is needed. The poor can't always bear the brunt.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
It may be a solution had the likelihood of a draft been made clear to the American public before we got ourselves into all these wars. But right now the war in Iraq has something of an 80% disapproval rating, yet there is talk of being there for 100 years. This is a direct quote from John McCain: "I disagree with what the majority of the American people think." Sure a draft would create public outcry, but would Washington give a shit? There's outcry already, and no end in sight.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
Heh, yeah, there's a discontent over the fiasco in Iraq, I can't deny that. But ask your dad what it was like in the late sixties and early seventies. Comparing then to now is like saying a pit bull and a yorky are dogs so they are equal. President piss pants would shit if he had to face what Nixon faced. I may have hated Nixon, but like piss boys father, Nixon had an ample supply of ball balls, the man stood his ground. Chicken George would fold.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
I don't know if counting on George W. Fail folding is good enough to justify a draft. I know I don't want to risk being shipped to Iraq. I usually lose airsoft =/ Had my dad been sent, My grandmother was ready to up and move to Canada :D
I'd have to think about what the public would do, were a draft to be instated in this day and age. I honestly think it could not happen. They won't do it because the public outcry would be too severe, and they would never get away with it. So they use mercs.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
I'm not being sarcastic when I say that you can never tell what you can be capable of, never sell yourself short.
And I think you make my point about there being a huge outcry over the draft. The best way to make sure that there will be no more wars of adventure is to enact a law that states that there will be a draft if there is any open hostilities. I think this would rein in pissy little snots like W in the future. We need to make the pain shared by all of us, not just the poorest.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
A law like that could never pass, because people will take it for the opposite of what it is, overlooking it's intent. If Obama gets elected, I believe a republican will not see a position of significant power in this government for a very long time. Hopefully then, we won't need to worry about it, because we won't be in these type of wars in the first place.
Also, a law like that would have to be followed for legitimate conflicts as well, even if it's not needed. Which lessons its appeal.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
The direct Opposite is true. He would be a screw up like Jimmy Carter and not a success like Bill Clinton. Then we would not see another Democrat President for a long, long time.
STPfuzzDemon 3 years ago
And Obama would fold way worse after 8 years of Bush/Cheney. Hillary is so much more capable than Obama, that if the Democrats lose yet again, it will be side-splitting laughter.

Plutonwolf 3 years ago
Too many decide to serve in the military because they perceive service as an easy road to upward social and economic mobility. Careerists generally treat their military service as glorified welfare.
There was a large contingent of Americans who volunteered to serve after 9/11. I was one of them. I believed the lies about Iraq being a threat to our security. When I became a recruiter for the Marines in March of 2007, I discovered that that patriotic sentiment no longer exists.
ls1z28chris 3 years ago
Fuck the comment character limit.
Haxxploits 3 years ago
Hell yeah on the "we shouldn't be there in Iraq" The Ranger I know wants to go back to Afghanistan and kill the shit out of Talibaners. But he has done 2 tours in Iraq and now wants to discharge, he planned on being career.
Plutonwolf 3 years ago
No he doesn't. He just doesn't favour banning private military contractors. He is in favour of prosecuting those private soldiers that break the law. Haxxploits 3 years ago
That's the problem, people think they are limited to just these 2 candidates.
research, look into 3rd parties, and don't for a second think that they don't have a chance. If enough people said " You know what, I'm going to vote for the guy I really want " something might happen.
MrMP81 3 years ago
The problem is, nobody will say that. The majority of this country is not educated enough to make the decision for themselves. They watch the news, and let other people decide for them. The 2 party system is firmly in place, unfortunately, and there is nothing that can be done about it at the moment. So, honestly, 3rd party candidates do NOT have a chance, and any vote cast for one is a waste and only serves to, in most cases, strengthen the Republican's chance. We are limited to 2 candidates.
