  • The Bellevue School District... brainwashing kids... seriously

  • Let's see, the average Bellevue teacher has an average salary of $58k/year. They work 8 months out of the year and less than 8 hours a day. Then whine about getting only a 6.6% raise???

    Cry me a river!!

  • According to many sources the district mismanaged a multi-million dollar budget and are holding the teachers liable. Not all teachers think the same and if a majority of them are supporting the strike. I trust the professionals that they are.

  • "According to many sources the district mismanaged a multi-million dollar budget"

Then someone needs to refer that to the King County DA.

"Not all teachers think the same and if a majority of them are supporting the strike"

Sure, they want more money and think they can get it.

"I trust the professionals that they are."

Then why is our education system, the worst in the industrialized world? We're #2 in spending per pupil and get the worst results.

  • Also, most teachers work 11 months out of the year and way more than 8 hours a day. The raise was only 1.5% on top of the COLA. Which is lower than most surrounding districts. Teachers deserve way more and I hope they get everything they are asking for!

  • "most teachers work 11 months out of the year"

No they don't. They have June, July, and August off. They have half of December off. They have spring break, fall break, and every holiday known to man.

"The raise was only 1.5% on top of the COLA."

Which is a lot more than most people are getting. Most in the private sector do not get a COLA adjustment and most are not even getting a merit increase right now.

    "Teachers deserve way more"

Why? Our kids are dumber than ever.

  • Teachers work most months of the year! They don't have all that time off. First of all, I happen to know for a fact that teachers come in during the month of August to start planning their lessons and preparing for the year, and not only that but they have curriculum meetings to attend to. And did you even consider that during breaks they might be catching up on grading hundreds of essays/exams??

  • It doesn't matter why, these scum are breaking the law and holding our children hostage to their greed. Here's a clue: Don't like the pay? You were too damned stupid to look it up BEFORE you took the job? Then go deliver pizza for a living. Meanwhile, these lawbreaking scum should be locked up until they agree to go back t6o work, and their union leaders should go to prison. It's simple, really.

  • You students are amazing. When I was your age, I doubt if I would have spent my free, sunny, day out in support of teachers during a strike. Thank you for showing the community that you agree with the teachers. Your statements and mere presence make a huge impact because you know first hand that a forced curriculum web is bad for students.

  • I see summer school in your future kids...and your teachers just turned down the 10% pay increase, by 75% according to the news. School all year?

  • i hear the cry of higher taxes in the bellevue city coming soon.

    hoorrayy??

  • All right, you guys get to take 1 week off your vacations so far. Good job!!! Show your support, your parents taxes are not high enough Lets pass a few levy's while we are at it. Then Bellevue wont JUST have the highest paid teachers, they can pay the highest taxes too. Too bad your teachers don't think as much about you as you do for them, if they did they would be working instead of walking around with signs.

  • its good that the sammamish students care about there teachers...

  • Btw, this wasn't the first "Student Rally." Interlake was having rallies before Day 3.

  • Wow....this makes me so proud to be a teacher in Bellevue. Our students are the greatest! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  • That's cool, I knew people at my own school were picketing but it's nice to see other students were too.

  • That students would take time out of their lives in order to begin putting together video and putting their voices out there like this is exactly why I teach where I do, and also why I won't settle for a sub-standard education for them.

  • We had approximately a dozen students picketing with us at the Bellevue High location at Bellevue Way and Main Street.

The student support is absolutely huge, and as a teacher, I can't thank them enough for turning out with their support.
