Tennis was most boring in the mid and late 90s. All-serve Sampras Ivanisevic etc bulldozing the rest and then engaging in servathons that robbed the grass game and Wimbledon of all its thrills and class. Also Becker having started out as a top player as early as a 17yo in '85 and was burnt out after '90 and Edberg after '92. The older guys of their gen like Connors Mac Lendl Wilander Cash Leconte were long gone by 92. After 92, only two guys could be entertaining - Krajicek and Agassi.

Becker burned out after 90....oh...except that 91 was the year he became #1....oh...and he tore up the tour in 92.....and of course reached Wimbledon finals until 92 (and again in 95...and undoubtedly would have were it not for Sampras in 93).

Then he blasts Sampras and Ivanisevic for serving well...which apparently robs the grass game of "thrills and class"...but celebrates Krajicek.....

@datacipher All-slog and zero-talent Sampras was swatting flies in the loos of SW19 year after year when Becker was winning Wimby after Wimby. Becker won Wimby 86 and 89 losing two sets each year vs top-class opponents. That same guy hardly won a match in st sets after 90. EVERYBODY (bar Sampras and his biased fans like you who have cipher knowledge) knows that Becker was a far lesser player after 90 thanks to family problems, a black wife in White Germany, tax issues and his own demons.

@datacipher Sure Becker tore up the tour in 92 - lost to way past prime Mac at AO, skipped FO, 1stR USO, player SEVENTEEN magnificent sets against four no-names incl claycourter Medvedev on the grass of Wimby 92 till QF match with Agassi. Similar results in 93 incl the exhausting QF five-set marathon with Stich before the Sampras match. 1stR exits in all the Slams in 94 except Wimby and some more slogging there. Lost to claycourter Forget at Queens 95 and almost lost to clown Pioline at Wimby 95

@datacipher As you know a lot about tennis prolly you are aware that Sampras was considered the most boring player ever; a lot like Nadal today; while peak-Fed is celebrated as exciting. I loved Krajicek's run at Wimby 96 more than anything I saw from 91 till Fed emerged in 03. Sampras-Ivanisevic slugfests destroyed the joy of Wimby and grasscourt tennis in the 90s. For all your tennis wisdom prolly you are not aware. Sorry speaking to the wrong guy.

how i miss the boom boom times....

today's tennis is most of the times so boring. back then matches were thrilling and rousing and player could handle the raquet much better.
