what do you expect? the 2.2 perkins diesel offered in the ranger in 1983 had a whopping 59 horsepower... the base, gas, manual everything, 2wd ranger weighs 2800 pounds, this example probably weighs over 3100 pounds because of the diesel... it's gonna be slow... the next slowest ranger is the one with the 2.0 gas engine based off of the 2.3... but it was only offered on base models so there was potential... i've had mine all the way past 85 and (the needle) touching the peg at the bottom...

That motor is beat I guess, I used to have a 1984 2.2 Diesel, I could do 60 in 18 secs. It was slow for sure but I could get 80 out of her 85 downhill... hahaha. But that was back in 2002 so my truck was only 18 years old...

To my ear it sounds like you are waiting too long for the shift. Try shifting earlier and see if you don't get better results. Even diesels with rotary injection pumps don't really need to be wound up tight.

Nice! Is that a 5 speed? I have an 82 Mazda B2200 - same engine with a 5 speed and a 3.90. It'll do about 0-60. Oh, you want a time for that? Whenever it feels like it. 0-60 time = about 25 seconds if at all, but then I haven't managed to time it... too busy driving and shifting. Great video and it sounds like you've got a good runner! Keep it up!

You better regear that ranger with those tires. I got a 93 3.0 with 32s and 3.73s and under completely normal driving I took off on a hill and the spider gears in the rear end popped. It wouldnt even pull my driveway in reverse. I hate the damn 3.slow. I only got like 10 mpg with it.

the size of the motor has nothing to do with it, the 32inch tires and 3:73s did, Im assuming that you still have the 7.5 rear and stock gears, and being a 93 they probably have 200,000+ miles on them, this is a common problem with the 7.5 rear end with 3:73s

The 3.0 isn't that powerful of an engine (my car has it and i like it) but I would be afraid of anything bigger than stock tires. Especially with a manual transmission.

its not to bad, the motor can handle the tires, its the 7.5 is made for economy and on road stuff. We swapped in a dana 44 front and an 9inch in our old 3.0 and we dont have any problems with power
