You have to watch "Timeless" too to understand the whole thing.

That guy who is led out by the two guards is like a mob-boss. His henchmen are in the semi-truck. The girl escapes with the other guy who was arrested by the female cop when he tried to rob her. Then when they're in the market they see the two cops and run their seperate ways...

...What you don't see with the guy-thief and the female cop is shown in Timeless (they show a little of it where the thief gets killed by the mob-boss guy from the bus) then the mob-boss is running away and comes across the male-cop and the girl...Then i think the rest is self explanatory
