Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Bill Hicks, but his remark about marijuana and making nature illegal is missing the point. It's illegal to own big cats like tigers and lions because they're dangerous to people. Now, I'm not saying marijuana is terribly dangerous, at least, no more than tobacco smoke, but again, Bill has a tendency to oversimplify things, which is excusable I suppose, given he is, after all, only a stand up comedian.

Is a Jalapeño pepper a drug? Salvia? Rosemary? Digitalis? By the base definiton, yes. Being artificial or not doesn't change the status. The very definition of drug and its popular use are at odds. You can find opium and arsenic in nature, cannabis and clover. Natural is another qualifier that means nothing. Cheers
