It is the ignorance of many kids back in the day, that Commodore 64 was for a long time already there, but Nintendo just crushed 'em and stole C64 idea of gaming with 8-bits. If Commodore still was big, they would be still the original with idea's for gaming, that I am sure of! Cya!

By the way, first video game (OXO) was invented as early as 1952, C64 didn't invent anything. On the other hand, Nintendo created many genre of gaming like platforming and tactical-rpg.
