Such a strange song because the lyrics are sad but the tune and orchestration are so upbeat. But it's perfect for ONJ's voice--this should have been a hit.

Elton's "I don't Want to Go on with You Like That" was his biggest solo single of the 80s. Both his and Olivia's singles came out in 1988 and so yes they have a very similar sound.

Also remember radio and MTV were very influential in a single's success. Olivia was 40 at the time competing against the likes of Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" (the biggest single by a female artist in 1988) and Belinda Carlisle ("Heaven is a Place on Earth").

Great song, shame it only peaked at #62. But if this song came out say 1984, it would have done better-1988 the music scene was changing with Tiffany, Martika, Debbie Gibson ruling the airwaves she didn't stand a chance. But it's an awesome underrated song.

the timing on this release was off, no doubt. as for eltons ability to write a five minute hit? duh! the proof is in the 140 chart hit he has managed to accumulate. olivia was/is a class act! today she spends much of her energy fighting breast cancer! god bless her!!

There was a similar song put out around the same time by Elton John and they might have been to much alike to compete. Elton was on of his successful comebacks at the time. Music then, as now, was focused on younger female artists. This song should have been a HUGE comeback for ONJ.

Oh, I wouldn't call it her best -- the songs composed and produced for her by John Farrar are much better, IMO. This Elton John tune sounds like one of his formula melodies that could have been written in five minutes.

I met two of the dancers in the video. We went out to a club here in Nashville together just prior to the video being made. One of the dancers, is the one who played michael in the movie "A Chorus Line". He and his friend were super nice. I know they had a blast dancing with the true diva of all time - our Olivia!

I agree, this song should have been a huge hit for her when it came out (1988, I think). But after she only got up to #20 with Soul Kiss in 1985, you could tell her Top 40 days were over. But we, as Oliva fans, can bask in the glow that she had the biggest hit of the 1980s.
