This is the original Hip Hop beats that was sampled and looped from James Brown's "The Funky Drummer" for literally hundreds of Hip Hop songs. This guy is playing it exactly how its supposed to sound. The best version on You Tube. A purist Hip Hop artist would pay this guy just to "freestyle" over it at a live concert.
This sounds good, but on your left hand, a finger keeps flying off of the stick during a certain part. You should definitely fix that. Other than that though, it's pretty much perfect.
@clone232 I think it's meant to be played like that...you don't want to wrap your finger around the stick cause if you get into the habit of that then you can get arthritis.
@clone232 .... you said all that needs to be said when you said it sounded good .... this is not a DCI event , this is grooving on a drumset ...regarding his grip and left index finger ... very common , its called a back fulcrum .. his fulcrum is solid , but it is between his thumb and middle finger or even his ring finger .. dude has good hands , fine technique and most importantly ..he sounds good
That sounds amazing and is really hard to play like that.Ive got a dvd of Clyde playing it and he's playing mostly 8th notes while Jabo plays hand to hand 16ths on his hi-hat (I know,it was a revelation to me too)when listening to a James Brown record we often forget he never had just one drummer on stage with him.
man, finding a lot of no name drummers on youtube lately that are kicking the crap outta things. difficult things. another one, "well done"! i better go do what your name is telling me to.

@KDSReckless
Hmm, that's not how I was taught. I thought that so long as you don't grip the stick too tightly your fingers should be fine.
