I wish I had better judgement so I wouldn't have read the cheesy comments about the 'nuances' of your tone or criticisms about 'color and dynamics'...sounds good, IS GOOD. I alternated between your video and Segovia's while I was learning this piece, and there are a bunch of idiot comments on Segovia's video too. Great job at both speeds.
both were cool. i just think it's interesting how you switched right hand position. i'm trying to figure out where i want to play it...over the sound hole or close to the bridge.
The nails need a bit of work, but great left hand technique. As a fellow Classical guitarist, i suggest you involve more Color and Dynamics. Bach was amazing at hiding them in his works so you can add them wherever you like as long as they flow like a river in comparison to other composers where certain parts of the piece require certain color/tone. Great work
Hmm, i like your playin, but to be honest: Stay with the slow version, but play it more "emotional"- this is a piece from baroc, there was the 30- years war in europe, ppl saw death every day and thought of dyin and loosin their lives, like "memento mori" and "carpe diem", so bach componed this piece and it tells about the emotions from that days in history. The slow version, played accurate and nicely shows the emotions of that dramatic days, the fast version is somehow... hmm... "unfitting"...
From a violinist, I LOVED your version of this Bach Prelude. I've heard others play this slower, but I liked this speed better. You make it look so easy, but I know it's not. I can't wait to watch your other Youtube pieces. I could listen to you play all day. Thanks!
advent did not keep a journal to remind one of one's humility when he began his training obviously, and is now wasting energy on yet another unecessary phase that he could have avoided
Amazing both versions are fantastic! The fast version rates up there with Segovia's version which you can easily find on youtube. I do like to see the 7-3 stretch near the end before going major instead of hammer on easy way out :-) Cheers Jeremy
I posted this on another vid of the same piece and ill say it again: the hardest part of this piece is the last measure where it comes to an abrupt stop, like waking up from a dream. YOU almost got it.
ya it is supposed to be an F, but because its a 6 string guitar playing an F on that chord is physically impossible. The piece was originally written for the lute, an instrument that was capable of playing that F in the bass.
Bach is bach and it's supposed to be played as he wished for it to be played.
The first part where you played the song how it is supposed to be played was wonderful, really brilliant, but the 2nd part where you played it fast. Why? Cause if it was to show off i think you really should go somewhere else, cause those who come here to watch this video, are hopefully only after the song itself, not a guy who's after our aknowledge for ruining a piece by playing it too fast.
He's free to his own interpretation...no one is forcing you to listen to this...just like Glenn Gould played Bach way too fast, he was still admired for his ability and interpretation.
no but they call it common practice for a reason! We have a really good idea of what that common practice is and this is not it! Go watch a smarter musician's vids and you'll see
ahhhhh the tone is TERRIBLE!!! it's too thick all the time. Turn the eq off and let the guitar sing. That's what takes practice and that's what takes skill. any monkey can learn the notes.
Sorry, the playing is good but i don't understand this at all. The guitar is a beautiful instruments and needs no eq
I just looked up your vids, and your interpretation of Bach is nowhere to be found.
Please direct us to it so that we might learn from your brilliance.
Beautifully played.

how fast is it really supposed to be? It's a tough piece with some crazy ass left hand fingerings!

It's not impossible. I know several guitarists, myself included, whose hands are big enough to make the stretch.

i think playing stuff faster for the purpose of technique practice is fine. but for performance it should be played correctly of course.
bcbdrums 2 years ago
this was intended for faster playing than this!
thejugglenaut91 2 years ago
how do you know? unless bach indicated the tempo, we can't really know that...

no but they call it common practice for a reason! We have a really good idea of what that common practice is and this is not it! Go watch a smarter musician's vids and you'll see
thejugglenaut91 2 years ago
what do you mean by 'common practice'?
bcbdrums 2 years ago
1. aside the fact that we cant know that, afterall its called an interpretaion,
2. u could also argue that it wasnt intended for guitar anyways...
3. there is some evidence that alot of music was intended to be played slower
...it comes down to it sounds nice
