@johnson22289 About this time of the year the Threshers are on their way back South where the water temperature is warmer above 62 deg.F. As long as the water temp is above 62 and bait fish are around there is a good chance Thresher is not very far.
One information to you! If i were you i would put my feet in the boat! Maybe someday a big one comes from down under because he smells your delicate feet!
@TheHellraiserDLX@TheHellraiserDLX Where to go fishing for Thresher Shark. I go to outside La jolla cove to catch Thresher although Thresher Sharks are present up and down California Coast from San Diego to Malibu Beach. What am I looking for. When Thresher Sharks are around you will see them tailing, jumping out of the water or look for bait ball being push up the surface. I hope I answered your question. Do your research in the net and it will help you find Thresher before long.
oh cool u caught that on LaJolla coast....i went to san diego on vacation and we went there...its really nice there....yea well im from pennsylvania so theres no fishing like that around here
Fishing off La Jolla eh? Good place. I use to live in San Diego, Spring Valley. Went fishing the bay and caught mostly bay sharks there and some rays. Nice video.
I'm happy for you. I know how thrilling it is swimming among giant Manta rays, Hammer heads & White tips reef sharks. Cocos Island is the place to go diving.
This guys awesome!!!! Must think that his fingers and toes grow back like a lizard's tail! No fear!!!! No once did he lift his feet out of the water!!!
come on J! you should know better than to keep the clicker on! props for all your videos though, i'm looking into getting my first boat, and i think a kayak is the way to go. i don't like the idea of paying for gas!
You got balls catching sharks from a Yak! I don't want to even see a shark from my kayak even though I already got knocked by a bull shark and saw the fin.
if you've caught a thresher f that size and seen its mouth you'd happly dangle your legs over the side too........... just dont forget their diet pilchard's and small fish they dont acctvely hunt and kill large prey
it does not feel very comfortable to reel in a big catch with your feet straight ahead, you are more likely to tip to either side especially with a shark on the line
damn dude , your not scared that a shark is going to bit your feet off ???? .. I see you have not just 1 , but both of your feet in the water .. thats crazy ... nice catch too man !!!!!!
Wow mate, Guts..... That's all I am thinking right now.... I fish in my kayak for Squid, Snapper and whiting. And half of them make me wobble and tip. Great video mate. - Feel free to check out my videos everyone. - Cheers hookedupfishing
tahy ho mate does that really happen to you and me mate i was fishing in my kayak 2 of the gulf coast and i pulled in a 250 pound mako and i was filming mate it flipped me over i had a camera recoring it messed up my video n i lost my 1000 dollar rod
First of all thank you for stopping by. Sorry for your mishap. I have all my fishing gear tied to a leash as you can see in the video. As for the camera it's all enclosed in a water proof case and the camera works under water that's what enables me to take underwater shots.
ur crazy but pretty ba i fish but i dont have the balls to catch a mako shark off a kayka because i shark fish to i have a some fishing videos so please subscribe
I have a kayak, But I really don't think i can catch a shark with one, I would probably flip over in the water. I have done deep fishing but not like this, I only catch dog fish.
Thresher Shark are good to eat, they sell for $10./lb in fish market. As for size limit there is none and you don't get much meat from smaller size sharks.
I just got a fishing kayak and buying my rods for the ocean. I was wondering what pound test you use on main line and what you use for leader for the sharks??? Thanks?
right on JUST GOT NEW FLUSHMOUNT POLE HOLDERS, for one yak and the other is already set up- lets GO! Ive spent many a morning foggy or clear, out on kelp or drifting above scripps canyon, catching everything imaginable- LOVE IT!!!- DO watch out for the man in the gray suit though! - lotsa luck

dennyh0077, Thresher shark fishing is always good when water temperature is 60-66F degrees and when the schools of bait Sardines and Mackerel are around. I've caught them or seen them caught on Jan, Feb,Mar. Apr,Jun Jul and end of Summer around Oct. Bottom line is temp and food supply.
dennyh0077, On this video I used 100 LB. mono leader 10ft. long, Rapala CD14. Mackerel, Sardine or Mullet pattern works well. This Threshers were caught directly West of the pier. When using live mackerel I use 40LB. fluorocarbon leader.
when you are pulling a heavy fish like that, then it will help you maintain your leverage and balance if you place your feet outside the kayak. shark will not bite your feet, unless you make a lot of movements or you flap your feet a lot, then they might mistaken it as a nice piece of meal :)
i use an ambassador abu garcia 6600 with 50lb power pro braid. i wait until bait fish run about 2 miles offshore, snatch hook them, let em fall and boom. this guy is an idiot with his feet in the water though. my 160tarpon is great
daboodeef179, To answer your question how to catch Thresher Shark. I've use live 10" Mackerel and also Rapala CD-14 in Sardine,Mackerel or Mullet pattern works well.
The rod that I use is Calstar GFGR 700M, a Shimano TLD20 loaded with 30lb.Maxima line, 12' x 100lb mono filament leader. I slow troll 40' behind kayak. For live bait I use 2/0 Gorilla Owner hook.
Ihave been using Shimano TLD-20, TLD-25 and Shimano Trinidad 30 for all my fishing trips all loaded with 30 pounds lines. For Thresher I use 100 pounds leader. For the fishing rod I use Calstar GFGR 700M and on this video I am using a Sabre Stroker tuna rod.
I did bought a bigger kayak the Trident Prowler by Ocean Kayak, I sold it after two outings. Bigger kayak is not always better, it's too big for me, catches more wind difficult to handle against the wind ,against ocean current and difficult in loading -unloading on transport vihecle.

didnt you fools read the title he said 3 fish total 240 pounds thats combined weight of all fish together my god you idiots give the guy a break i wouldnt attempt to target threshers in a kayak but he sure did
great video, I bet fishing in a kayak for sharks will get your blood pumping. How far off land are you? My only experience with a thresher was, we were trolling for King Mackerel and one hit. That shark was jumping more than swimming! Keep up the great videos.
well done for releasing! wish everyone would do the same

Flintcurse,
Sorry to have confused you. I forgot to mention 3 SHARKS means more than one weights about 240 pounds TOTAL.
Cheers,

Man you got guts to fish in a kayak I would be afraid a shark would pull me and the boat over! Go you!

great video, I bet fishing in a kayak for sharks will get your blood pumping. How far off land are you? My only experience with a thresher was, we were trolling for King Mackerel and one hit. That shark was jumping more than swimming! Keep up the great videos.
