  • well done for releasing! wish everyone would do the same

  • are they still biting this time of year?

  • @johnson22289 About this time of the year the Threshers are on their way back South where the water temperature is warmer above 62 deg.F. As long as the water temp is above 62 and bait fish are around there is a good chance Thresher is not very far.

  • what lb test are u using n what size hook

  • @johnson22289 30lbs main line,100lb leader, 2/0 gorilla hooks by Owner when using live bait or Rapala CD 14 for artificial lure.

  • no steel leader?

  • @johnson22289 No steel leader used at all. I may consider using steel leader when going after adult Mako shark while fly fishing.

  • The only way to fish.

  • One information to you! If i were you i would put my feet in the boat! Maybe someday a big one comes from down under because he smells your delicate feet!

  • Great release!

  • Great Video, Love shark fishing.

  • Do people tell you that you're crazy?

  • what a way too fish.

  • Nice Release

  • I only see one fishing pole. Where are the other ones you used? or did you only bring one pole?

  • @fishingkayakphil I carry two fishing poles most of the time. I store the 2nd pole horizontal at the bow section not visible on this camera angle.

  • i cant see that as being 240 pounds

  • any advice for fishing for T sharks off the beach?

  • YOU'RE LEGS ARE JUST DANGLING SAUSAGES! D:

  • epic.

  • Where do you go when you fish thresher and what do you look for

such as conditions and other stuff

  • @TheHellraiserDLX @TheHellraiserDLX Where to go fishing for Thresher Shark. I go to outside La jolla cove to catch Thresher although Thresher Sharks are present up and down California Coast from San Diego to Malibu Beach. What am I looking for. When Thresher Sharks are around you will see them tailing, jumping out of the water or look for bait ball being push up the surface. I hope I answered your question. Do your research in the net and it will help you find Thresher before long.

    Good Luck,

  • that porr shark-.-

  • dude take your feet out of the water!!! your giving me a heart attack lol

  • Dude, I think you need a bigger boat!

  • @DjCheryl dude, you don't get it.

  • Nice catch!!! But what would you do if a Great White came up to snack on him while you were getting the hook out. You got balls!~~~~

  • nice! where were you fishing?

  • What was it you used for bait?

  • @Moldz92 , I use live mackerel fly lined and sometimes I use Rapala CD-14 mackerel or sardine pattern. They both work well.

    TL, johnnyceviche

  • oh cool u caught that on LaJolla coast....i went to san diego on vacation and we went there...its really nice there....yea well im from pennsylvania so theres no fishing like that around here

  • Mate you're a legend

  • You got B@LLS the size of pickle jars to do that! It looks like fun though.

Awesome catch !!!! I gotta try this

  • nice.. ever flipped ur kyak with everything on it?

  • @dickobriggsy, Yes many times. Check out my Wipe out video. As long as all gears secured tied down and water proof not a problem just kept on filming.

    Cheers,

    Johnnyceviche

  • damm dude... i would have had Vodka in that bottle..

  • Fishing off La Jolla eh? Good place. I use to live in San Diego, Spring Valley. Went fishing the bay and caught mostly bay sharks there and some rays. Nice video.

  • u must have some balls man

  • sportin the keen sadals

  • lol nice catch!

but i dont think that 1 shark is 240 lbs.

    the 3 combined yes believable.

  • how are you not scared? out there all alone in a little kayak with your feet dangling in the water as you reel in sharks!? your so brave!

  • yessssssssssssssss fish and release

  • OK OK I GET IT FUCK

  • naw its a fish thats bait compared to what we catch

  • a fish swims right under him and he doesn't even notice at 3:08

  • 'a fish' ? that was the shark he just caught stupid :)

  • thats the shark hes winding in dickhead!

  • Dear Sir,

I just want to say you are an awesome fisherman. It takes strength and courage to fish from such a small boat.

I also want to say you are funny guy!! stalemate HAHA.

You are also a class act in the way you handled MrRynders. You are the man!!

Where are you fishing? Subscribing to your channel cause your cool!

  • korbECk,

I'm here in San Diego Ca. fishing in LaJolla coast.

    TL,

    johnnyceviche

  • @jceviche oooooohhh i live in oceanside

  • i've seen bigger fish in my bath tub mate

  • iv swam with bigger fish man come on

  • MrRynders,

I'm happy for you. I know how thrilling it is swimming among giant Manta rays, Hammer heads & White tips reef sharks. Cocos Island is the place to go diving.

  • This guy is the fucking man!his arms have got to be kiillling him,

That shark right there is just a pup, maybe 40 lbs it could bite the shit out of you still Good job on the C&R jceviche

  • This guys awesome!!!! Must think that his fingers and toes grow back like a lizard's tail! No fear!!!! No once did he lift his feet out of the water!!!

  • great balance, i would throw the damn rod away if a shark were to be hooked

that must be a damn big kayak, with an ankle and a stick to put the camera, or else the kayak would move a bit more

  • they dont bite your feet? lol

  • come on J! you should know better than to keep the clicker on! props for all your videos though, i'm looking into getting my first boat, and i think a kayak is the way to go. i don't like the idea of paying for gas!

  • subscribed and rated for your bravness>?

  • nice :)

  • You got balls catching sharks from a Yak! I don't want to even see a shark from my kayak even though I already got knocked by a bull shark and saw the fin.

  • How many sharks did you caught in total ?

  • if you've caught a thresher f that size and seen its mouth you'd happly dangle your legs over the side too........... just dont forget their diet pilchard's and small fish they dont acctvely hunt and kill large prey

  • im telling you now i wouldnt have my legs in the water lol

  • it does not feel very comfortable to reel in a big catch with your feet straight ahead, you are more likely to tip to either side especially with a shark on the line

  • Great video! Way to manage the boat, drink water, and change camera views! Awesome!

  • damn dude , your not scared that a shark is going to bit your feet off ???? .. I see you have not just 1 , but both of your feet in the water .. thats crazy ... nice catch too man !!!!!!

  • it probably woudnt there mouthes are too small

  • Wow mate, Guts..... That's all I am thinking right now.... I fish in my kayak for Squid, Snapper and whiting. And half of them make me wobble and tip. Great video mate. - Feel free to check out my videos everyone. - Cheers hookedupfishing

  • tahy ho mate does that really happen to you and me mate i was fishing in my kayak 2 of the gulf coast and i pulled in a 250 pound mako and i was filming mate it flipped me over i had a camera recoring it messed up my video n i lost my 1000 dollar rod

  • jjpear713,

First of all thank you for stopping by. Sorry for your mishap. I have all my fishing gear tied to a leash as you can see in the video. As for the camera it's all enclosed in a water proof case and the camera works under water that's what enables me to take underwater shots.

    TL,

    johnnyceviche

  • kool

  • ur crazy but pretty ba i fish but i dont have the balls to catch a mako shark off a kayka because i shark fish to i have a some fishing videos so please subscribe

  • respect for this guy , catch and release.

  • Wow, very impressive.

  • I just bought a malibu two a few months ago and I'm addicted. I've been fishing every morning for last month. Been slaying the kings and bull sharks!

  • zcarjosh,

Kings are OK to play around with but Bull Shark be careful those bad boys got some very sharp teeth and have bad temper.

    GL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • hey jonhnny, you could make some good ceviche with that bad boy......yummy yummy.....!!!!

  • wgz71,

I sure could but I haven't tried to make one out of Thresher Shark. I've tried making Taco and it sure tasted good.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • why would you want to kill a thresher??

    t

  • good eatin

  • I take you didn't watch it until the end..........

  • I was anticipating a shark coming up and biting his legs off.

  • lol

  • I have a kayak, But I really don't think i can catch a shark with one, I would probably flip over in the water. I have done deep fishing but not like this, I only catch dog fish.

  • are those any good to eat? how big do they have to be?

  • woodyate,

Thresher Shark are good to eat, they sell for $10./lb in fish market. As for size limit there is none and you don't get much meat from smaller size sharks.

    JC

  • I just got a fishing kayak and buying my rods for the ocean. I was wondering what pound test you use on main line and what you use for leader for the sharks??? Thanks?

  • Brandonkop,

Main line of 30lbs is more than enough for the biggest Shark you can handle on a kayak, I use 100lb. fluorocarbon leader.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • nice shark! how deep was the water in the area you caught the thresher?

  • Bullshark561,

This shark was caught in 75ft of water next to a 300ft deep canyon.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • looks fun as hell

  • Hi,

Im getting a Hobie Revolution kayak soon and hopefully going to do some deep water fishing for Kingfish, Salmon, Tailor and Tuna mostly Pelagics.

Anyway- Where abouts do mount the camera for taking footage? Awesome looking shark by the way, the Threshers are one of my favorite sharks.

  • jceviche where did you fish,Socali?

  • La Jolla Ca.

  • Beautiful shark! In Sweden we call them Rävhaj (Fox shark), because the caudal fin kinda looks like a "tail".

    Thanks for the video!

  • right on JUST GOT NEW FLUSHMOUNT POLE HOLDERS, for one yak and the other is already set up- lets GO! Ive spent many a morning foggy or clear, out on kelp or drifting above scripps canyon, catching everything imaginable- LOVE IT!!!- DO watch out for the man in the gray suit though! - lotsa luck

  • wow you have sandls on and you feet in the water do you think it one day bite your leg off

  • My friend chance and I go kayak fishing for sharks out of san diego harbor

  • Johnny,

I'd like to buy you a beer and talk fishin stories some time... Sorry for all the narrow minded SOB's. Why dont you guys go hug some trees or seals or whatever you do and let the real men talk.....

  • Very nice Johnny, what are the good months to fish for threshers?

  • dennyh0077, Thresher shark fishing is always good when water temperature is 60-66F degrees and when the schools of bait Sardines and Mackerel are around. I've caught them or seen them caught on Jan, Feb,Mar. Apr,Jun Jul and end of Summer around Oct. Bottom line is temp and food supply.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • Do you use a 100lb mono leader when you troll a mackeral?

is this north of scripps pier?

    nice catch

  • dennyh0077, On this video I used 100 LB. mono leader 10ft. long, Rapala CD14. Mackerel, Sardine or Mullet pattern works well. This Threshers were caught directly West of the pier. When using live mackerel I use 40LB. fluorocarbon leader.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • Sharks! They only bite when if you touch their private parts!

  • cameltoe69, Thanks for the information. That explains why I have not been bitten! =)

    Cheers,

    JC

  • where was that

  • hobojo898, San Diego, Ca.

  • thats why I have aboat!! good fishing vids though cheers :)

  • How did you kayak stay so still during the catch?

  • when you are pulling a heavy fish like that, then it will help you maintain your leverage and balance if you place your feet outside the kayak. shark will not bite your feet, unless you make a lot of movements or you flap your feet a lot, then they might mistaken it as a nice piece of meal :)

  • dude! at 3 minutes 15 seconds there is a huge fish right by your foot!

  • thats the fish he has on his fishing line

  • 1:08

"we are in a stalemate right now.."

    *takes a sip of water*

    HAHAHAH!!!!

  • This is awesome, man. I would love to do this.

  • jceviche,

what kind of bait u using?pound test?and how long is ur leader?do u use drifting leaders or regualar?

  • JON123KO,

On this video I am using Rapala CD-14 mackerel patern, 80LB fluorocarbon leader x 12 feet long.

  • this guy is fukin brave great vid .

  • jon123ko,

I fish in La Jolla Beach San Diego ,Ca.

  • that guy is bad ass

  • i use an ambassador abu garcia 6600 with 50lb power pro braid. i wait until bait fish run about 2 miles offshore, snatch hook them, let em fall and boom. this guy is an idiot with his feet in the water though. my 160tarpon is great

  • u ledgend, ever capsized or got into a nasty inciedents with a shark, come on tell us we all wanna know

  • omg how do you fish sharks on a kyak your crazy good 5/5

  • how do u fish for sharks

what type of rod, reel and line do u use

  • daboodeef179, To answer your question how to catch Thresher Shark. I've use live 10" Mackerel and also Rapala CD-14 in Sardine,Mackerel or Mullet pattern works well.

The rod that I use is Calstar GFGR 700M, a Shimano TLD20 loaded with 30lb.Maxima line, 12' x 100lb mono filament leader. I slow troll 40' behind kayak. For live bait I use 2/0 Gorilla Owner hook.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • would you be willing to take me fishing next time you go out?

I got a malibu kayak ready to go?

  • whoa... that was cool!

do you ever capsize catching these heavy things?

  • u are amazing really my first shark was a shovelnose but i already caught treahers too and yellowtail at kelp la jolla

  • johny what kind of reel and rod do you use for tresher do u have reels or rods to sale :) i live in imperial beach

  • karlitoe321,

Ihave been using Shimano TLD-20, TLD-25 and Shimano Trinidad 30 for all my fishing trips all loaded with 30 pounds lines. For Thresher I use 100 pounds leader. For the fishing rod I use Calstar GFGR 700M and on this video I am using a Sabre Stroker tuna rod.

Sorry I do not have any gears for sale.

    Cheers,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • nice to see ya let this one go dont understand why you kill them to show off to your mates

  • haha are you crazy fishing sharks with a kayak?

Home alone in the water by the home of sharks :)...

  • What do you say you get a bigger boat?

  • Hi Brenlax920,

I did bought a bigger kayak the Trident Prowler by Ocean Kayak, I sold it after two outings. Bigger kayak is not always better, it's too big for me, catches more wind difficult to handle against the wind ,against ocean current and difficult in loading -unloading on transport vihecle.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • where do u fish

  • would have been better if it was the huge one lol

  • Take your foot out of the water next time. He could have chomped your foot off.

  • Nice video. Love the different camera angles.

Nice shark too. I'd be worried about it chomping down on my foot the way you sit. You're fingers came pretty close a couple of times too!

Make sure you post the video here when that happens.

  • mcbigg,

"You're fingers came pretty close a couple of times too!

Make sure you post the video here when that happens."

LOL! I will just to caution others the danger of catching sharks and it's not that easy. Thanks for your comments.

    Tight lines,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • Maybe he would'nt be so happy if it's mother came up and bit him in half : )

  • what do you use for bait?

  • 805goliath14,

On this particular one I used CD14 rapala mackerel pattern.

    TL,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • All these people who thought he meantit was a 240lb single shark make me laugh..read the title.. its not that hard to understand that he meant all 3 combined. lol by the way, you're awesome man, goodstuff.

  • why has to hurt the pretty sharks??

  • He hurts the sharks because he is an idiot!!

  • didnt you fools read the title he said 3 fish total 240 pounds thats combined weight of all fish together my god you idiots give the guy a break i wouldnt attempt to target threshers in a kayak but he sure did

  • 240lbs my ass

  • thats not 240 pounds it felt heavier cause u were tired.. thats prolly about 50-65

  • Flintcurse,

Sorry to have confused you. I forgot to mention 3 SHARKS means more than one weights about 240 pounds TOTAL.

    Cheers,

    Johnny Ceviche

  • nice u take a drink thats a pretty big fish. gratz i caught a sandshark and a tigershark off of oceanside pier

  • looking forward to seeing more.

please turn off the clicker next time :)

  • do u use steel liter

  • way glad to see you cut her loose... I love catching threshers too.... however I agree, I dont think she was 240... still a great catch though!

  • he said he caught 3 fish and all together they equaled 240 pounds

  • Beautiful fish. Well done!

  • that looks like some challange. and fun.

  • 240 lbs looks more like a 75 pound fish to me

  • Man you got guts to fish in a kayak I would be afraid a shark would pull me and the boat over! Go you!

  • great video, I bet fishing in a kayak for sharks will get your blood pumping. How far off land are you? My only experience with a thresher was, we were trolling for King Mackerel and one hit. That shark was jumping more than swimming! Keep up the great videos.
