As a Berea alum who lives in NYC now, I can tell you that all of the things you dislike about Berea now will be the very things you miss when you leave. :( Love Berea and miss it all the time!
Auntie Mil, '43, said she got tired of having to wave and say hello to the same people all the time. That function moved to the Richmond mall./At least you have movies now. /Do they still lock Baird Lounge when the boardmembers are there, to prevent them from witnessing students making out on the only full-sized sofas on campus?/Are there canned tomatoes on the salad bar?/Yeah, yeah, still have lots of gay men. But are there ANY men over 5 foot 7? I mean any?
Class of 99, except for the computer stuff all of this was true then too! Laughed out loud about the Health Service telling you you were pregnant. A guy I knew got told he probably had syphlis when he had mono.
I am going to Berea in the fall. This video was so funny for me. I have never visited. I do next week. The video made me more interested than detered because of the fun sense of humor. I guess I have found my home in Berea.
Definitely. We have a blast here. And actually, you and another prospective inspired me to do some informative videos answering your questions using myself and other BC students. I'll soon answer your question and any others you may have more in depth there. check out the latest vid for more details.
At ANY college, students will find something to complain about. I went to another college for two years before coming to Berea and although Berea is very academically challenging, the students get a lot of benefits. The profs here really go out of their way to help students. Not to mention you get a 4-year tuition scholarship. Keep in mind, Berea's not for everyone, but check out the school's website and just poke around. If you've got questions, call the admissions office.
i live and richmond and you have no idea how much i want to go to berea college. im in upward bound and I never wanted to leave. This summer was my first summer and I still get jealous when i see the girls walk out of Fairchild. I tell my mom that im adopted and my real family is in berea but srry bout the rany
I'm a Berea grad from the '80s. Wow. Hard to believe that some things never change. Hilarious! Gotta say, those were the BEST four years of my life! Oh, yeah, and we had to go to TEN convos a semester. Do they still lock the doors to keep people from coming in late to convo? We also had to walk to class barefoot, in the snow. And saw wood for the fireplaces in our dorm rooms. JK. But phones really were in the hallway! Good times. Enjoy it while you can. It goes way fast.
I live in Berea and I'm also an Upward Bound student at Berea College, so yeah. The squirrel thing had me laughing my ass off! It's sooo frekain' true.
OMG - you have to be a Berea grad (like me) to really appreciate this vid, but I was ROFL! I graduated a LONG time ago and was CAB chairman, so I howled about the CAB dances being a big date, and loved the convocation comments, AND the comments about how all the Berea guys are WOMEN! Too funny!! (Even the Bingham guys??) Best news - you guys now have a shuttle to Richmond? Do they stop at the liquor stores? LOL! Time for a sequel!
Girls- I graduated in 2005- survive it survive it- and you will be thankful I promise- damn I remember it so well. Like yesterday. those convos- ugh. how many do you have to go to now?! It was 7 when I was there (but it used to be 10 or something)
HaHa..I graduated back in the 80s. If you think its hick now...just imagine what it was like back then. But seriously, Berea was a great experience..I learned a lot. Thats where I realized I was Gay!! I see it hasnt changed much!! LOL
That happens at any college. But how about that 35% of the 2009 senior class donated money back to the college? The national average is only 10%. That says something about Berea students.

They should also mention how 95% of the student body is always bitching about BC and life in general.
